Chapter 238: Take Care of Yourselves
Sheng Yu fell into a coma again, and his condition was more critical than before.
All night long, Sheng Yu's men and Pei Ling's men surrounded the floor where Zhu Yuan was staying, making it impenetrable.
It was not until dawn that Sheng Yu finally woke up.
"Where is Yuanyuan?"
Qiao Mai said, "Miss Zhu is resting in her ward; she hasn't come out."
Sheng Yu's gaze trembled, his bloodless lips quivering as he insisted, "Open the door and go in!"
Just as Qiao Mai was instructing Enzo to open the door to Zhu Yuan's ward, a young nurse came in from outside and asked cautiously if this was the ward of the Chairman of Sheng Group.
"What is it?" Situ frowned.
The nurse walked in, holding a ring and a note in her hand.
"This was left in the ward by the young lady who had the abortion surgery yesterday."
As for Zhu Yuan, she had vanished into thin air, and Pei Ling was gone as well.
Sheng Yu clutched the diamond ring; its cold touch had long since lost the warmth of her body.
Everyone exited the ward.
In the quiet room, Sheng Yu slowly unfolded the folded blue note.
—Sheng Yu, I will no longer resent you. Neither of us owes the other anything. I hope you can also let go of the past. Remember what I said: I hope you are happy and that everything goes well for you. This wish will never change, but we have truly reached the end. Take care of yourselves.
A single tear fell onto the note, blurring the words written on it.
……
Sheng Hongyao was waiting for news in his study, but what he got was a Bodyguard saying over the phone, "Chairman Sheng, Zhu Yuan has aborted the child."
"What did you say?"
The Bodyguard told Sheng Hongyao the news he had just learned in full detail, "The news is absolutely certain. Sheng Yu vomited blood and fell into a coma on the spot, and it seems Zhu Yuan was taken away by Pei Ling."
Sheng Hongyao sneered, "It's good that she aborted it; it saves me from having to do it myself."
"Chairman Sheng, do you still need me to continue tracking Zhu Yuan's whereabouts?"
"No need."
A woman without a child no longer poses a threat.
In a room with heavy curtains drawn, seeing the smile on the man's face after he finished the call, Shen Yijing pressed against his chest, "What good news, to make you so happy?"
The man hooked Shen Yijing's chin, "Zhu Yuan and Sheng Yu have broken up, and she aborted the child."
Shen Yijing's eyes lit up, "Is the news reliable?"
"The people I sent saw it with their own eyes. Sheng Yu couldn't handle seeing the aborted embryo and vomited blood on the spot. Do you think it could be fake?"
"That's wonderful. Now Sheng Yu has no true heir."
Shen Yijing hugged the man, "Now we just wait for Sheng Yu and Sheng Hongyao to fight to the death, and we shall reap the rewards."
……
Ning Huaiqing went to the intensive care unit again early in the morning, only to be told by a nurse that Sheng Yu had left the hospital after waking up yesterday evening.
Left the hospital?
How could he leave the hospital when he was so severely injured?
But just as she pulled out her phone to call Sheng Yu, she remembered Sheng Yu's warning that she was never to contact him again.
Unable to see Sheng Yu, she returned to Youyou's ward in a daze.
His high fever had subsided over the past few days, but he still had a low-grade fever every day.
No cause could be found; even tumor screenings and blood analyses had been done, but nothing could be detected.
She looked at Youyou sleeping quietly on the hospital bed, her heart aching as she shed tears.
Sheng Yu was injured, and Youyou was sick.
Was it really her fault?
Is this why heaven is punishing her?
If it really was her fault, could all the punishment fall on her alone, and not hurt the people she loves?
Hearing the stifled sobbing, Youyou woke up. He had no strength in his body from the high fever of the past few days, so he struggled several times before he managed to sit up, reaching out his short hand to clutch Ning Huaiqing's sleeve.
"Mommy?"
Ning Huaiqing raised her teary eyes, looked at Youyou who had sat up, and quickly turned to hug him, asking worriedly, "Is Youyou uncomfortable anywhere? Does anything hurt?"
Little Youyou shook his head, "It doesn't hurt, Youyou doesn't hurt."
He touched Ning Huaiqing's face, "Mommy is crying, shame, shame."
Ning Huaiqing's heart ached, and she held him tightly in her arms, her voice trembling, "Youyou, Mommy only has you now."
"Mommy, there's still Daddy... Where did Daddy go? Youyou misses him so much."
In Youyou's little heart, although he had only met Sheng Yu a few times, he felt an inexplicable reliance and reverence for him.
Ning Huaiqing's hands stiffened as she held him, and she said softly, "Youyou be good, Daddy is very busy lately and has many things to deal with."
"Will he come to see Youyou?" Youyou's big eyes were full of anticipation.
Ning Huaiqing understood; he was asking if Sheng Yu would come to see him again.
She could not give the child a definite answer because she herself did not know if Sheng Yu would ever come to see Youyou again.
But facing Youyou's expectant look, she could not bear to hurt the child's young heart, so she stroked his little head and said, "He will."
At this moment, the phone in her pocket rang.
Ning Huaiqing was startled; it was her other spare phone that was ringing.
After her father was pushed down the stairs by her, that mysterious person who called her had phoned the nurse's station, saying her phone was being monitored by Sheng Yu and telling her to prepare a spare one so they could stay in contact.
But since then, she had never received another call from the mysterious person.
Not knowing what the other party wanted to do again, Ning Huaiqing comforted Youyou, gave him a toy to play with, and then went to the restroom to answer the phone.
"What exactly do you want to do?"
A hoarse, low voice came from the other end of the line, "Take the child and discharge him from the hospital immediately!"
"Why?" Youyou was still running a fever; it was impossible for her to discharge him, and besides, staying in this hospital allowed her to be a little closer to Sheng Yu.
Even if she couldn't see him up close, she would be content just to catch a glimpse of him from afar; she dared not ask for anything more.
"You just need to obey my orders; don't ask why!"
Ning Huaiqing gripped her phone tightly, controlling her emotions, "Youyou is sick and cannot leave the hospital; if he gets a high fever again, I will be very worried."
"Aren't you afraid that if you defy me, I will make the news of Sheng Yu having an illegitimate child public?" The mysterious person's voice turned sinister.
Ning Huaiqing's heart tightened.
When she was first threatened by the other party, it was, firstly, because she didn't want Sheng Yu to know of Youyou's existence, and secondly, because she wanted to protect Sheng Yu's reputation and didn't want the outside world to know he had an illegitimate child.
Now, the first point of the threat was useless because Sheng Yu already knew about Youyou.
However, the second point was what she worried about most of all.
She absolutely could not let Sheng Yu's reputation be ruined.
"But what about Youyou's illness? I cannot ignore my child."
The doctors in this hospital were of the top international standard, yet even so, they still could not determine the cause of Youyou's fever.
Discharging him rashly, she feared the child would not be able to handle it; she could not take risks with Youyou.
Sheng Yu was more important to her than her own life, but Youyou was a piece of her own flesh and blood; how could she have the heart to ignore Youyou's health?
Yet, for an illness that even a top-tier team of experts was helpless to diagnose, the man simply said, "He will be fine after a while."
The cold wind whistled, and the snow fell even more heavily.
