Chapter 291: Do You Miss Me?
The moment Pei Ling's voice fell, Pei Li appeared rapidly with the Bodyguards, surrounding Sheng Yu.
They had brought many men out today, and although they were scattered in every corner of the street, once Pei Li pressed the emergency dial button, the others all swarmed up.
A vast crowd of Bodyguards in black, in the alley behind the kitchen, a place where no one passed by.
And Sheng Yu was all alone.
"I want to see Yuanyuan!" Sheng Yu raised his left wrist, unbuckled his watch and threw it on the ground, his sharp eyes covered in a layer of blood-red.
There was no expression on Pei Ling's slightly pale face, but those deep amber eyes revealed mockery, "What man would be generous enough to let his woman see her ex?"
"She won't like you." Sheng Yu's jaw tightened; the pregnancy of less than three months coiled around his heart like a curse, making it difficult for him to breathe.
"I guess this isn't the first time you've secretly made noodles for her. Being unable to keep your cool at this juncture, you must know she's pregnant, right?" Pei Ling curled his lips into a smile, "It's a pregnancy of less than three months, she's already with me, so you might as well give up on that idea."
He and Zhu Yuan had discussed it, and their story to the outside world was consistent; they would not reveal the true age of the fetus in her womb.
Anyway, in the eyes of outsiders, he was her convenient "husband," so being the convenient "dad" to the fetus in her womb wasn't impossible either.
"Impossible!" Sheng Yu said sternly. His Yuanyuan was not that kind of woman; she didn't want him, but she would absolutely never do something like seamless transition!
"Stop him."
Saying this, Pei Ling raised his hand slightly and turned to leave.
The sounds of fighting came from behind, but Pei Ling strode away without looking back, looking at the off-road vehicle parked on the side of the road not far away.
Zhu Yuan was sitting in the car, absent-minded. The moment Pei Ling opened the door, she felt as if she were hallucinating, as if she had heard someone calling her.
She was slightly startled.
But when she met Pei Ling's eyes, which seemed capable of piercing through a person's heart, she came back to her senses in a daze and withdrew her gaze.
"Saw the news?" Pei Ling sat beside her and closed the car door.
She had gone to sleep early last night and gotten up early this morning to mess around with "dark cuisine," so he had guessed she hadn't seen the news.
Seeing her eyes red and her absent-minded, pathetic appearance right now made him angry.
Zhu Yuan leaned sideways against the seat back, "Let's go back."
The Bodyguard started the car.
Pei Ling watched her quietly as she curled her body up to resist the heartache, her back trembling slightly.
That business with the second-hand goods had such a big impact on her; she just couldn't let go, could she!
Pei Ling said with a cold face, "Never has a woman in my car been heartbroken because of another man!"
Zhu Yuan's eyes were red, "That's because no other woman has sat in your car."
She still dared to talk back to him!
"Zhu Yuan!" Pei Ling couldn't bear it anymore; he gripped her shoulders and turned her around, but as soon as he saw her reddened eye sockets, his heart softened. Before his brain could issue a command, he spoke first, "You just want to anger me to death."
Back then, when she went to perform a "spirit-soothing" marriage for Lu Huaizhan, Lu Huaizhan must have been angered to death by her, right!
Zhu Yuan took a deep breath, "I'm just pregnant and affected by pregnancy hormones. If it were before, I would absolutely not be like this."
Her excuse was well-found; even now she was still making up for herself, letting the goods in her belly take the blame.
Pei Ling didn't expose her either, because he didn't want to face reality either; occasionally being muddled was a happy ending for everyone.
Looking at her, Pei Ling sighed in his heart. His thumb gently rubbed the corner of her eye, and the slight dampness made his heart soften into the dust in an instant.
"Never be heartbroken for any man. Men aren't worth it; you yourself are the most important."
Even if it were him, he wouldn't want to see her sad. Sheng Yu really had a talent for it, making her sad time and time again. What was the point of having a man like that?
Zhu Yuan remained silent.
Pei Ling was angry, "Did you hear me?"
Zhu Yuan nodded, "I heard you."
The car drove toward the outskirts of the city. Pei Ling thought of the Bodyguard saying she hadn't eaten more than a few bites of noodles. He was expressionless, but couldn't help asking her, "Are you hungry?"
After a long while, Zhu Yuan's muffled voice came: "A little."
"What do you want to eat?"
"Noodles with soybean paste."
As soon as he heard "noodles with soybean paste," Pei Ling thought of the man surnamed Sheng coming all the way to Licheng to make noodles for her. His face turned cold, "Pick something else."
Zhu Yuan knew Pei Ling cared about her. She gradually pulled herself together and said, "Let's go back and eat. You haven't eaten either, right?"
The photo he sent her was of a meal he had already half-eaten, but there was no smell of food on him at all.
Pei Ling looked at her deeply, then withdrew his gaze and said lazily, "Fine."
The small courtyard had three steps. The car stopped outside the gate. Pei Ling took Zhu Yuan out of the car. On the way back, he had already told someone to order the kitchen to make a few dishes Zhu Yuan liked to eat; he had no preferences, as long as he could be full.
Just as the Bodyguard pushed open the courtyard gate, a high-pitched, screeching engine sound suddenly came from behind them, kicking up dust that filled the sky.
Pei Ling subconsciously gripped Zhu Yuan's hand, his expression stern, and looked back at the unfamiliar black sedan.
The car door opened, and a pair of long legs stepped out. The moment they landed, a hand with clear knuckles and a wound the size of a hand back tightly gripped the edge of the car door.
A pair of legs, a hand.
Zhu Yuan recognized it at a glance, her expression suddenly stiffening. Her legs subconsciously retreated, but when she saw the man, her nasal cavity grew sore and her vision blurred.
She hurriedly turned around, broke free from Pei Ling's hand, and was about to leave.
"Yuanyuan."
In the blink of an eye, it was beyond everyone's expectations that the severely injured Sheng Yu could still be this fast. When he rushed toward Zhu Yuan, no one could stop him.
But a thick palm blocked Sheng Yu; yet at the same time, Sheng Yu's hand had already firmly grasped Zhu Yuan's trembling, cold hand.
On Zhu Yuan's left was Sheng Yu, who wouldn't let go of her hand, and on her right was Pei Ling, who was blocking Sheng Yu from taking another step closer and was also holding her hand.
The entanglement of three people.
The Bodyguards quickly surrounded them, drawing their guns and aiming at Sheng Yu.
Sheng Yu's gaze was fixed straight on Zhu Yuan's profile; blood was flowing from the corner of his mouth, and the smell of blood on him was very heavy.
Pei Ling's Bodyguards were all people who had licked blood off the edge of a blade; to quickly break out of the encirclement, his physical stamina had long since been pushed beyond its limit.
Yet he could not endure it for even a second.
He risked his life just to see her.
At this moment, clutching her hand and feeling her body temperature, this real sensation made his heart tighten, the pain spreading to every corner of his body, and in an instant, his eyes turned red.
"I have finally seen you, Yuanyuan, have you missed me?"
