Chapter 302: Thrown Out

~8 min read 1,458 words

The moment Pei Ling saw Sheng Yu in this state, he could tell at a glance that he had crawled out of the ruins after a brush with death.

It was an absolute fact that the Sheng Corporation building had exploded last night; the moment he learned the news, he had stood guard at Zhu Yuan's door, terrified that she might see the news and be unable to bear it.

Let the building explode, then.

But the tone of Sheng Yu's voice—no matter how he listened to it, it didn't taste right.

A flash of disdain crossed his eyes, and he waved his hand.

"Throw him out."

Yet, a hand—fingertips slightly cold, still carrying the lingering tremors of lingering fear—grabbed his sleeve, blocking his action.

The moment Zhu Yuan brushed past him, Pei Ling clearly felt a suffocating sensation of blood rushing in reverse through his body.

It was fleeting.

Because Zhu Yuan turned back to look at him, looking at him with eyes so red they were absurd, and said, "Just bear with it, he's always this tea-like."

She really understood him.

Pei Ling turned his head and sneered, then lengthened his stride to follow her pace.

Sheng Yu's gaze was fixed tightly on Zhu Yuan; as she drew near, his gaze did not restrain itself in the slightest, sticking to her face like glue.

Seeing her eyes were red, he was certain that risking his life to rush here was the right thing to do.

"I'm fine."

Those three words were low and hoarse.

Zhu Yuan's eyes instantly welled up; she kept avoiding Sheng Yu's gaze, refusing to look at his face, her eyes falling instead to his waist and abdomen.

The wound from yesterday was seeping blood, staining a large portion of his shirt; the blood had already dried, presenting as mottled dark red patches.

Zhu Yuan's nose felt sore, "This is what you call fine?"

"Your mouth is so hard, why didn't Sheng Hongyao blow your mouth up?"

Even though they were words of reproach, Sheng Yu's eyes grew increasingly bright, and the intense joy caused his chest to heave rapidly; he couldn't help but take a step forward to grab Zhu Yuan's hand.

Yet, before his hand could touch Zhu Yuan, he was dodged by her.

"Didn't you say you were fine? If you're fine, go back; there is no place for you to stay here."

Sheng Yu looked at her reddened eyes with a profound gaze, his heart aching uncontrollably, "I'll just find a spot to make do."

Zhu Yuan choked, "You're a lunatic."

Finally, Sheng Yu grabbed Zhu Yuan's hand, holding it tightly without letting go, "I really am fine."

Zhu Yuan slowly looked up at his disheveled appearance; at such close range, his eyes were full of bloodshot veins, yet his face was becoming increasingly bloodless.

Her heart tightened violently, "If you dare to faint, I will throw you out."

"I won't faint," Sheng Yu stared at her face and promised.

Only his tense jaw and the bulging veins on his forehead betrayed him.

Pei Ling frowned slightly and turned his head, "Pei Li, go call a doctor."

Sheng Yu held Zhu Yuan's hand the entire way, and only after entering the room and the doctor arriving did he collapse onto the bed.

It was as if he had been holding his breath, only feeling at ease once he ensured he wouldn't be thrown out.

When he woke up, it was already dark, and outside the window were the sounds of cicadas and insects.

Sheng Yu propped himself up to sit, looked around the room, but didn't see Zhu Yuan.

Just as he got out of bed and was about to go find Zhu Yuan, the room door was opened from the outside.

Zhu Yuan was wearing a pale pink dress, her brows and eyes revealing a gentle and quiet air; the sight of her peaceful demeanor made Sheng Yu lose his focus.

She walked in holding a glass of water; the moment she looked up and saw he was awake, sitting on the bed, his gaze fixed straight at her.

It was the same look as yesterday after he was injured and fainted, firmly gripping her as if afraid she would disappear.

"Yuanyuan..." his voice was incredibly hoarse the moment he spoke.

Zhu Yuan frowned slightly, walked over, and handed him the water glass.

Sheng Yu lowered his eyes to look at it, but didn't reach out to take it.

"My hand hurts."

"Don't tell me your hand hurts and you want me to feed you."

Both of their voices rang out at the same time.

Sheng Yu was stunned for a moment, then gave a bitter smile, "May I?"

"Didn't you say you were fine?" Zhu Yuan gripped the glass tighter.

"I was fine before, but I'm not fine now. If you aren't willing, then forget it; I'll just bear with it, it's only not drinking water."

As Sheng Yu spoke, he leaned against the headboard, closed his eyes, and incidentally made a few motions of pursing his dry, peeling lips.

It made Zhu Yuan frown straight away.

Suddenly, a hard sensation touched his lips; Sheng Yu opened his eyes, his gaze showing an incredulity after being clearly hurt and aggrieved, "You really are going to feed me?"

"Forget it if you don't want to drink." Zhu Yuan made a move to take the glass away.

Sheng Yu was quick-witted and grabbed her wrist, "I'll drink."

Terrified that she would really stop feeding him, he drank quickly—so quickly that Zhu Yuan worried he would choke, and if he choked and coughed, it would pull at his wounds and lead to a river of blood again.

After drinking the water, Sheng Yu used that gaze that could manipulate people's hearts to stare straight at Zhu Yuan, "Can I have a hug? It's already been a day since I've held you."

"No."

Sheng Yu pursed his thin lips; Zhu Yuan couldn't stand him like this and made a move to leave.

"Yuanyuan, I'm hungry."

"The kitchen didn't cook your meal." Zhu Yuan stood up with the glass.

Sheng Yu leaned against the headboard; while he was unconscious, Zhu Yuan had wiped his face, revealing once again a face that drove thousands of girls in Jingdu City mad with obsession.

Especially now that he had lost so much blood and looked so weak, he gave off the impression of a beauty on a sickbed.

He moved his pale lips, "Then can I have another glass of water?"

"If there's no food to eat, water will do."

Zhu Yuan could bear it no longer, "Sheng Yu!"

"I'm here." He looked at her with clear eyes and curled his lips, "What is it, Yuanyuan?"

"Why didn't Sheng Hongyao blow your mouth off?" She couldn't help but repeat that same line; how had he become so manipulative now?

Was it just to win her sympathy?

Sheng Yu "weakly" raised his hand to grab hers, "I was going to say how would I let you hear me say I love you if my mouth was blown off, but then I thought, these things Yuan Fengye taught me really aren't presentable; I feel nauseous and cringey just thinking about them."

Meeting his gradually serious gaze, Zhu Yuan vaguely sensed what he was about to say, so she hurriedly brushed his hand away, stood up, and called out toward the door in a panic, "Bring the food in."

Sheng Yu watched her sudden flustered appearance, the corners of his mouth hooking up.

Sheng Yu used the same old trick again, claiming his hand hurt too much to hold chopsticks, so in the end, Zhu Yuan took a spoon and shoveled the food into his mouth, one spoonful after another.

It was indeed shoveling.

Large portions, fast speed.

She didn't give Sheng Yu any chance to speak at all.

The servant cleared away the leftovers.

In the blink of an eye, Zhu Yuan was about to leave too; she didn't know what else Sheng Yu might say to win her sympathy.

Suddenly, Sheng Yu grabbed her hand, his gaze deep, "Yuanyuan, there is something I want to ask you."

Zhu Yuan stopped in her tracks, looked at him, and lowered her eyes, "Actually, I also have something I want to ask you."

Sheng Yu's gaze was gentle, "You ask first."

"Three years ago..." Zhu Yuan's breath hitched as she recalled some unpleasant images, "In the presidential suite of the Ruili Hotel in Yucheng..."

"It was me." The tip of Sheng Yu's heart couldn't stop trembling, and his eyes turned red, "Yuanyuan, that man was me."

Zhu Yuan looked at him, her eyes calm and devoid of any ripples.
