Chapter 304: At This Very Moment, Are You Happy?

~7 min read 1,391 words

Zhu Yuan thought of what happened that night; he was not just less than human, he was practically a ravenous wolf.

To the extent that he wanted to tear her apart and swallow her whole.

If she hadn't forced herself to escape, she didn't know how many times he would have taken her throughout the night.

With that kind of drive he had, she would definitely have ended up with some ailment.

She subconsciously clenched her fist, about to punch Sheng Yu, but when her peripheral vision caught the gauze wrapped around his waist and abdomen, her clenched hand stiffened, then slowly relaxed.

She interlaced her fingers with his, locking them together.

"Get well soon."

Her voice was so gentle it could wring out water.

But Sheng Yu understood her little-fox style of doing things too well; he gripped her hand back and kissed it. "Okay."

Isn't it just getting punched?

As long as she stops being angry and doesn't leave him because of it, it wouldn't matter if she beat him half to death.

Outside the bedroom door, a tall, lean figure stood motionless.

Pei Ling had been standing at the doorway ever since the servants brought out the food Sheng Yu had left unfinished.

He had waited in the courtyard for a while, waiting for his daily, fixed-time glass of dark fruit and vegetable juice.

That stuff was nasty, but for some reason, it was addictive.

If he didn't drink it for a day, he would feel uneasy.

When he followed his instincts and walked over here, he realized that Zhu Yuan must have forgotten about him.

He walked to the door and heard Sheng Yu and Zhu Yuan both asking each other about the truth from three years ago.

The barriers were broken; they seemed like a fated couple.

Through the gap in the door, Pei Ling caught a glimpse of the two embracing and silently lowered his eyes.

The fingers hanging at his sides curled and tightened inch by inch, his palms becoming a bloody mess as fresh blood dripped down.

Reason kept him from pushing the door open and entering.

He knew that his missing out on Zhu Yuan wasn't because he hadn't lent her money back then.

It was much earlier than that.

He and Zhu Yuan were destined to have a shallow connection.

Zhu Yuan pushed away the hand Sheng Yu was using to hold her; it was too easy for things to get out of hand when they hugged like this.

"You get some sleep first, I'm going out."

Yet how could Sheng Yu bear to let go? "I'm here, where else are you going?"

"I'm going to juice some fruits and vegetables for Pei Ling." Zhu Yuan checked the time; it was half an hour later than usual.

She hadn't forgotten; when the servants brought the food out earlier, she had intended to follow them out to do exactly that.

He hadn't been eating much lately and was even thinner than before.

She needed to help him get a little more nutrition.

By the time she left this place, she hoped his body would have recovered.

Sheng Yu felt as if a bottle of aged vinegar had been overturned in his heart.

The key was that it was the guy surnamed Pei, so he really had to swallow his pride.

Pei Ling had protected his wife and child; this was a debt of gratitude he owed.

He wore an expression of suppressed anger, and Zhu Yuan couldn't help but frown when she saw it.

He was starting to act "green tea" again.

Zhu Yuan reached out, grabbed his right hand, and took off the Hair Tie on his wrist that had lost its original color.

"Yuanyuan!" Sheng Yu wanted to stop her, but it was too late; Zhu Yuan took the Hair Tie and threw it into the trash can.

Sheng Yu stared at the Hair Tie in the trash, pursing his thin, bloodless lips, his gaze heavy.

Suddenly, something was slipped between his fingers.

Sheng Yu was stunned; when he looked up, he realized that while he was staring at the trash can, Zhu Yuan had undone her low ponytail.

The dark green Hair Tie that had been binding her dark hair was now being slipped onto his wrist.

"Is this enough?"

This tone, like one used to coax a child, was quite effective on Sheng Yu, who was usually high and mighty and held the power of the Sheng Group.

Just as he was about to speak, Zhu Yuan's gaze landed on his left wrist.

There were a few scratches there.

Sensing her gaze, Sheng Yu nonchalantly raised that hand to wrap it around her waist. "Will you come back after you juice the fruit for him?"

"I have my own room."

With a mature and cold face, Sheng Yu said in a serious tone, "This is my first time spending the night here..."

The vein on Zhu Yuan's temple throbbed. "Don't tell me you're scared?"

"Scared isn't the word, I'm just not used to it. I get homesick for my bed; I need someone or something familiar around me."

Zhu Yuan watched him quietly.

Now she could be certain that the explosion really had fried his brain!

How could he even say that with a straight face?

Homesick for his bed?

She couldn't take it anymore and pulled his hand off her waist; she no longer had the heart to look at the scratches on his wrist.

"If you do this again, I'm ignoring you."

"How am I?" Sheng Yu stared at her with gentle eyes.

Zhu Yuan could not stand him looking at her with such a gaze; she suddenly leaned forward and cupped his face, "I will be back in a moment."

Sheng Yu took the opportunity to lift his head and kiss her red lips, "I will wait for you."

Watching helplessly as Zhu Yuan left the room to go care for another man, Sheng Yu clenched his fingers tightly.

In the end, he could not be even a little bit magnanimous.

Yet, this love rival could not be dealt with.

He lowered his head to look at the scratch on his left wrist, but he would not use such a method now—using pain to resist the surging jealousy in his heart.

Because he was clear about Pei Ling's situation.

After Zhu Yuan juiced the fruits and vegetables, she went to the courtyard and found Pei Ling still sitting on the rocking chair.

When she walked over, he was resting with his eyes closed, not even lifting his eyelids.

It was not until Zhu Yuan drew near that a gentle breeze brushed past.

His fingers moved slightly, and he smelled the faint scent of blood on Zhu Yuan.

"Pei Ling." Zhu Yuan called his name in a low voice.

Only then did Pei Ling slowly open his eyes; looking at Zhu Yuan, who was close at hand, his heartbeat skipped a beat.

In that moment of gazing, his eyes were churning with surging, intense emotions.

He shifted his gaze to her hand, to that greenish drink, without revealing his thoughts.

"I thought I could escape a disaster tonight." Pei Ling sighed, took the cup, and began to drink.

Zhu Yuan sat on the chair beside him as usual and said, "Why do you make it sound like I'm poisoning you?"

Pei Ling curled his lips and drank all the juice in the cup.

Zhu Yuan bent over and gave him a thumbs-up.

Pei Ling looked at her charming and bright appearance.

It was clearly no different from before; since living here, it was as if Zhu Yuan had truly let go of everything and started life anew.

But Pei Ling was very clear that she was only pretending to be calm; she could never let go of Sheng Yu in her heart.

Her happiness had changed significantly since they reconciled.

Just before Zhu Yuan took the cup to go inside, Pei Ling called out to her from behind.

"Yuanyuan."

Zhu Yuan stopped her steps and turned back to look at Pei Ling, who had stood up.

At this moment, Pei Ling's deep amber eyes revealed a shadow different from the past.

As if he were covering up something.

"Are you happy returning to Sheng Yu's side?"
