Chapter 34: The Greatest Regret of His Life
"What does it have to do with..." Zhu Yuan looked at Zhu An'an's gentle and dignified face.
Her tone shifted immediately, and she smiled even more purely and harmlessly than her, "Sister wants to know that much?"
She pursed her lips and blinked her innocent, wide eyes, "But I don't want to say."
Facing her feigned innocence, Zhu An'an sneered inwardly; it really made one not know how to respond.
Even though she was unhappy, she did not show it too obviously, "If you don't want to say, I won't force you."
She stepped forward and stroked Zhu Yuan's smooth hair, "I am concerned about you, worried that you might get entangled with someone again. I am very happy that Lou Yi is willing to settle down and marry Ling Bing; at least he won't come to pester you again. But what if you provoke someone even more troublesome?"
Zhu Yuan listened to her quietly until she finished, a smile curling at the corner of her mouth.
"Since you are concerned about me, just stand behind me and be concerned. Don't reach your hand out too far; if I'm in a bad mood, I might just chop your hand off."
She tilted her head and smiled, mimicking Zhu An'an, "What do you think, Sister?"
Zhu An'an narrowed her eyes slightly, then smiled, "Even if I reach out, it's to pull you up. Yuanyuan, we are family."
"Family?"
Zhu Yuan raised an eyebrow.
"The fact that my surname is Zhu is something no one can change. As for what your surname is, that's hard to say."
The elevator door slowly opened beside her.
Zhu Yuan made a gesture toward her, "Take care, Sister."
Zhu An'an smiled as she walked in. Even until the elevator door closed, she maintained her dignified and elegant expression, not losing a shred of composure.
Yet Zhu Yuan's words were like a thorn stuck in her heart.
Zhu Yuan understood her.
She knew what she cared about, and in just a few words, she tore open her wounds.
She was not the biological daughter of the Zhu Family; the parents who had cherished her for twenty-two years were fake, and everything she had was stolen.
Zhu Yuan was like a mirror reflecting her, wanting to reveal her true colors.
But she would not grant Zhu Yuan's wish; she was the young lady of the Zhu Family, the only daughter of her parents!
Who exactly helped her?
To be able to afford such a hospital room and to keep Lou Yi so submissive—in Kyoto City, besides the Five Great Families having such power, she couldn't think of anyone else.
A cold, handsome, and peerless face flashed through her mind.
Zhu An'an immediately dismissed it in her heart.
It couldn't be Sheng Yu.
Because she had sensed something wrong with Feng Mingyue yesterday, and only after pressing her did she learn that Feng Mingyue had gone to see Zhu Yuan and seen her buying contraceptive pills, which was why she was angry and unwilling to persuade Zhu Chaoqin to help Zhu Yuan.
How could Sheng Yu possibly touch Zhu Yuan?
That was his good brother's fiancée.
It wouldn't be him.
After the elevator closed, Zhu Yuan prepared to return to her room, but as she turned, she saw a man leaning against the wall at the corner.
Zhu Yuan was startled.
It was the Second Master of the Pei Family, Pei Ling.
The man was wearing a black athletic leisure outfit; he was tall and upright, with no accessories on his body at all, yet one could tell at a glance that he was noble.
He seemed to be out for some air, standing there casually, and even with his hair drooping, it could not hide his brilliance.
It was just that his aura was too cold—so cold that one felt a chill just looking at him.
However, he was wearing earphones, so he probably hadn't heard what she and Zhu An'an had said, and she hadn't disturbed him.
Just as she was preparing to sneak away and pretend she hadn't seen him.
A cold voice came through.
"Are you blind?"
Zhu Yuan shuddered and looked back at Pei Ling, as if she had only just seen him, and gave a dry laugh: "It's Second Master Pei, what a coincidence."
She paused and added: "I didn't get a chance to thank you last time; thank you for helping me."
Pei Ling took off his earphones and hung them around his neck, glancing down at her with a look just like the last time, as if looking at an idiot: "Why are you here? Are you sick?"
Zhu Yuan forced a smile, daring to be angry but not daring to speak.
Are you being polite?
Who asks questions like that?
She muttered under her breath, "Aren't you here too."
She didn't dare scold him, but she could use his own words to block him.
Pei Ling sneered, "Not only are you ruthless, but you also have a sharp tongue."
He walked past her with his hands in his pockets, "Do you even know how to hold a knife? Yet you dare to talk about chopping off other people's hands."
Zhu Yuan looked embarrassed; so he had heard everything.
Why were the mouths of these wealthy young masters in Kyoto City more poisonous than the last?
But compared to Pei Ling, Sheng Yu was not far behind, and perhaps even worse.
Zhu Yuan wore a fake smile, not noticing that the elevator door over there had opened.
Zhu An'an had accidentally left her phone in the hospital room.
She stepped out of the elevator and, from a short distance away, saw Zhu Yuan nodding and bowing to a man, looking incredibly sycophantic and bootlicking.
It was only when the man turned to reveal his profile that she recognized him as the Second Master of the Pei Family, Pei Ling.
The Pei Family was one of the Five Great Families of Kyoto City.
Zhu An'an immediately turned to the side so no one would see her there; although she could not hear what they were saying, she wanted to see what kind of relationship Zhu Yuan and this Second Master Pei really had.
She had heard that this Second Master Pei not only avoided women but also detested them, so if Zhu Yuan could speak with him, their relationship must be extraordinary.
Pei Ling walked a few steps and suddenly stopped.
Zhu Yuan was lost in thought about Sheng Yu and almost bumped right into him without paying attention.
The air pressure around them suddenly turned cold; she looked up abruptly, met Pei Ling's gaze of instant disgust and repulsion, immediately stepped back two paces, and gave a dry laugh, attempting to ease the awkwardness.
It seemed this Second Master Pei really hated people getting close, or perhaps he simply hated women getting close.
Pei Ling glanced at Zhu Yuan, "I remember now, have you been to the Pei Family Bank?"
When he saw her that night, she had seemed a bit familiar.
Zhu Yuan nodded, somewhat surprised, "But when I went, your bank was not open for business, so I didn't manage to borrow any money."
No wonder...
Pei Ling looked at the woman before him; she was pleasant to look at, not annoying, and the words she had used to retort to that woman earlier had also been pleasing to the ear.
She was not just a vase with nothing but beauty.
"I'll give you a chance to borrow money."
Zhu Yuan was stunned, "Thank you, Second Master, but I no longer need it."
She had already borrowed money from Sheng Yu; she couldn't possibly borrow money from the Pei Family Bank to pay back Sheng Yu, could she?
That way, she would be provoking two people, and they were the two people in Kyoto City who were the most impossible to provoke.
It wasn't worth it.
"That is truly a pity," the man said coldly.
Zhu Yuan shook her head, "It's not a pity; the Pei Family Bank has so much cash flow every day, it won't miss my single transaction."
Pei Ling looked at her sincere face as if she were an idiot, "I meant that not being able to borrow my money is your loss."
Zhu Yuan: "..."
Is this Second Master Pei trying to be funny?
She wanted to say that not letting her borrow the money was the biggest regret of his life!
As for the money from the Pei Family Bank, some people have the life to borrow it, but not the life to pay it back.
Watching Zhu Yuan return to the hospital room, Pei Ling walked off in the other direction.
A flash of astonishment crossed the eyes of Zhu An'an in the corner.
Could it be that Pei Ling helped Zhu Yuan?
