Chapter 45: Are You Putting in the Effort or Am I?
Why are you angry again for no reason?
Zhu Yuan picked up the phone from the quilt, exited the contact list interface, locked the screen, placed it on the nightstand, and lay down to rest after taking the Medicine.
She took the opportunity to mentally review why Sheng Yu had been angry just now.
But no matter how much she thought about it, she could not figure out the reason for his anger.
She did not know if the Medicine had a sleep-inducing effect, but as she thought about it, Zhu Yuan did not even know when she had fallen asleep.
In the middle of the night, she woke up feeling thirsty and checked the time; it was 12:30 AM.
At this hour, she did not want to trouble anyone.
As far as she knew, Sheng Yu occasionally came back to stay at the Hot Spring Villa; the servants and the Bodyguard lived in other buildings, and only Sheng Yu lived here alone.
Therefore, the only person she could trouble was Sheng Yu, and she dared even less to do that.
Forcing herself to get up with a sore body, she put on her slippers, picked up her glass, and walked out of the room with slow steps.
Sheng Yu's master bedroom was on the second floor, and walking down the spiral staircase led to the first floor.
At this hour, the villa was pitch black.
She moved her feet slowly to the first floor to avoid tripping and falling like she did last night.
Once on the first floor, she pressed the switch on the wall, and the lights instantly illuminated the modern-style living room.
When she saw the man sitting on the sofa smoking, her breath hitched in fright.
Sheng Yu was wearing a set of black loungewear; perhaps the light was too harsh, as he frowned and turned his head to look over, his displeasure hard to hide.
"What are you doing?"
Zhu Yuan exhaled, still shaken, "I should be the one asking you what you're doing, sitting here in the middle of the night scaring people."
"This is my house; I can sit wherever I want."
Zhu Yuan could not refute this; he had a point.
But sitting here smoking instead of sleeping in the middle of the night made Zhu Yuan suddenly think of a possibility.
"Are you not used to the bed? Actually, when you came back, I wanted to tell you to go back to the room to sleep, but you left too quickly, and I didn't have time to tell you."
Who would have known he would suddenly get angry.
And the kind without any warning at all.
Sheng Yu stubbed out his cigarette and stood up to walk toward her, "Couldn't you have called me or sent a text?"
He suddenly drew close, and Zhu Yuan was not used to such proximity; she subconsciously took a step back, but forgot that the stairs were right behind her. Her heel tripped, and she grabbed wildly with both hands, catching hold of the corner of Sheng Yu's clothes.
Sheng Yu's face was cold as he grabbed her arm to steady her, his tone unkind, "Do you not know my phone number?"
Zhu Yuan felt embarrassed for almost falling, her cheeks turning red.
Hearing Sheng Yu's tone, which was so certain, she hurriedly retorted.
"I know it. You forgot that I called you before; I've even memorized your number."
Memorized it.
Sheng Yu turned his head to look at the window nearby; the reflections of the two of them on the glass were very close. The woman was wearing his pajamas, and the looseness added a touch of ambiguous intimacy.
He turned his head back and lowered his gaze to see the glass in her hand, "Want to drink water?"
Zhu Yuan said "Mm."
The next second, the glass was taken away by the man.
She stood in place watching the man's back as he walked toward the bar; how did it feel like Sheng Yu wasn't angry anymore?
If he were angry, how could he still be helping her pour water.
Sheng Yu returned with a glass of warm water, "Drink it here or drink it upstairs?"
Drinking it here meant having to be alone with him again.
Zhu Yuan answered without thinking: "I'll just drink it upstairs."
"Fine."
Sheng Yu only said one word.
Just as Zhu Yuan reached out to take the glass, Sheng Yu held the glass in one hand, wrapped his other arm around her waist, and reached down to scoop her up horizontally into his arms.
Zhu Yuan was so startled she blurted out: "I can do it myself..."
"Wrap your arms around my neck, don't fall and cry," Sheng Yu interrupted her.
After saying this, he gave her no chance to refuse and strode up the stairs with his long legs.
The moment Sheng Yu stepped onto the first step, Zhu Yuan's body swayed; she was so scared she hurriedly reached out both hands to wrap them around Sheng Yu's neck to keep from falling.
Sheng Yu felt the soft body pressed against his chest and lowered his gaze to look at her.
He didn't know if it was because she was scared by his intentional swaying just now or something else, but her cheeks were flushed red, and the breath she exhaled was very hot.
Because she was wrapping her arms around his neck, the breath she exhaled all drifted into his collar.
The fragrant, soft breath was like feathers brushing against his skin, clinging to it as if trying to burrow into his heart.
He stopped his steps, standing at the turn of the spiral staircase, and stared down at her increasingly red face, "Is it you putting in the effort or me? Breathing so heavily."
Zhu Yuan was so shocked by these bold words that her ears burned; he was clearly just carrying her upstairs, what was this about him putting in the effort or her.
She whispered: "I'm not breathing heavily."
She was just breathing normally.
The corners of Sheng Yu's lips curved slightly, and he continued walking upstairs.
He first placed the glass on the nightstand, then sat on the edge of the bed, letting Zhu Yuan sit on his lap.
This posture was too much; Zhu Yuan hurriedly struggled to get up.
Sheng Yu, however, circled her waist and controlled her with ease, asking in a low voice: "Didn't you want me to come back to sleep?"
Zhu Yuan did not dare to look him in the eye, and with her head lowered, she said quickly: "I wanted you to come back to sleep, and then I would go sleep in the guest room."
"You've occupied the magpie's nest for so long, and only now do you remember to go sleep in the guest room?" Sheng Yu let out a cold snort.
"Compared to you, my small frame can at most be considered a sparrow, not a dove."
Watching her blush as she argued her case, Sheng Yu only found it amusing, "You've become quite rigorous, haven't you?"
His warm, dry fingers pinched her chin, stroking it with extreme ambiguity, his voice hoarse: "Is your head still dizzy?"
Zhu Yuan swallowed nervously; the man's breath was scorching and pressing, and how could she not know such an obvious reaction?
She hurriedly said, "It is, Doctor Qiao Mai said it wouldn't get better that quickly, and it, it still needs a few days of rest."
The man let out a soft chuckle, and the hand pinching her chin suddenly tightened; she cried out in pain, and the man's kiss followed.
Damn it, I didn't keep the Electric Baton on me.
Zhu Yuan turned her head to dodge, but Sheng Yu pinched her chin to turn her face back, entangling his tongue with her tender one.
The room was filled with sticky, damp sounds.
It wasn't until the person in his arms let out a pained muffled groan that Sheng Yu finally let her go.
Seeing her little face devoid of color and her chest heaving rapidly as she breathed heavily, he frowned, stopped kissing her, and pulled her head to rest against his chest.
"If you're dizzy and uncomfortable, can't you say so?"
Zhu Yuan certainly wanted to say so, but did he give her a chance to speak while he was blocking her mouth?
She took a moment to recover, leaning softly against Sheng Yu's chest; she silently rejoiced that her body was cooperative, getting oxygen-deprived exactly when it needed to, without any ambiguity.
Although her lips were a bit swollen and painful from the kissing, at least things didn't go any further.
Sheng Yu placed her back on the bed, pulled the quilt up over her with a dark face, covering even her head, then turned and strode out of the room.
Just when Zhu Yuan thought he would slam the door in anger because his desires were unsatisfied.
She didn't expect the door to be closed gently instead.
