Chapter 59: Didn't You Ask Me When I Would Be Back?

~8 min read 1,492 words

Zhu Yuan's heart skipped a beat.

From the corner of her eye, she caught sight of the hand the man used to block her.

Last time, she had felt that Pei Ling's palms were very rough, like those of someone who had done manual labor for years, yet he was the Second Master of the Pei Family; how could it ever be his turn to suffer?

The only explanation was that this person might enjoy killing and fighting more than she had imagined.

Those who lick blood off the tip of a blade are not easy to talk to.

"Does your man know you came here?" Pei Ling glanced at her sideways.

Her man?

Last time at the theater, she had deliberately blurred the relationship between herself and Sheng Yu so that Pei Ling would not dare to cause him trouble again.

The "her man" in Pei Ling's mouth was Sheng Yu.

Her heart hammered, and she said without hesitation, "He knows."

Who would have thought that as soon as she finished speaking, Pei Ling would let out a cold sneer.

That mad dog Sheng Yu had driven his car into him for her sake; there was no way he would let her come to this place alone.

Zhu Yuan could not care less about what he was sneering at.

She swept a glance at the blood-stained severed finger on the ground, "Second Master, I have already provided the explanation you wanted. Are you still unsatisfied?"

"That woman's explanation was given, but what about yours?"

Zhu Yuan stared at the direction of the door, less than three meters away from her.

She observed Pei Ling; the man was not looking at her at all, but was instead toying with the short blade in his hand.

"Me?" Zhu Yuan feigned answering his question, "I am not the one who spread the rumors, so I don't need to explain anything to the Second Master."

As the words fell, she gritted her teeth and dashed toward the door.

Suddenly, a sharp whistling wind sounded by her ear, and a short blade struck the door frame in front of her with a 'thud'!

The loose hair hanging to Zhu Yuan's shoulder was sliced into two, and a strand fell to the ground.

She stopped abruptly, looking at the short blade embedded diagonally into the wooden door frame, her heart still pounding, a cold sweat breaking out on her back.

Pei Ling walked toward the door unhurriedly, pulled the short blade out, and turned back to stare at her face.

The man stood with his back to the light, his silhouette deep and dangerous, and he said coldly, "No one has ever taken things from my hands without paying a price."

Zhu Yuan felt icy all over; she clenched her fingers tightly against her pocket, feeling her Electric Baton through the fabric.

She took a deep breath and focused intently on the man's hands, "What does the Second Master want?"

"Lift your hand."

The man walked up to her.

Zhu Yuan could only obey, slowly lifting her left hand and opening her palm.

The blood-stained short blade landed in her palm; Pei Ling's gaze moved slowly from the blade to her face, and he chuckled softly.

Although she did not know what he was going to do, Zhu Yuan's heart was beating very fast, as if it were about to stop in the next second.

As Pei Ling sat down on that black chair, this feeling became even more intense.

The next second, she suddenly heard a mechanical sound coming from the ceiling.

And from the wooden floor she was standing on, the sound of gears turning also emerged.

Countless black iron bars descended from the edges of the ceiling, embedding themselves into the gaps that had opened in the floor.

A large iron cage formed around Zhu Yuan instantly!

Yet what made her feel even more bone-chillingly cold was that she was in the same space as those cages holding wolves.

She looked sharply at the man outside the cage.

Pei Ling rested his elbows on the armrests of the black chair, his long fingers pressed against his forehead, while his other hand toyed with a remote control.

"Don't you know how to train wolves? I have a wild wolf here that was just captured; it hasn't been trained yet, so you train it for me."

However, he did not give Zhu Yuan a chance to speak at all; as he pressed the remote in his hand, the door of one of the iron cages slowly opened.

The wolf inside, which looked the most ferocious and was baring its fangs, immediately charged toward Zhu Yuan with lightning speed!

Zhu Yuan hurriedly blew her whistle!

The black wolf stopped its attack, slightly crouching its upper body, its cold eyes staring straight at Zhu Yuan, a low growl rumbling in its throat.

This wolf was very smart; after realizing this, Zhu Yuan's face turned deathly pale.

"Second Master, actually I don't at all—"

"Roar!"

Yet as soon as she opened her mouth, the black wolf wrinkled its nose and let out a roar, its amber eyes filled with cold, biting killing intent.

Pei Ling kindly reminded her, "You had better not speak and provoke it."

He touched the wound on his forehead; Sheng Yu's woman had come to his door herself, and if she wanted to leave unscathed, wouldn't that be a slap in his face?

Zhu Yuan held the short blade horizontally in front of her chest in a defensive stance, swallowing hard.

This was too insane; it was exactly like a gladiator arena.

No wonder they said the Pei Family's money was easy to borrow but hard to return; this was more than just a Dragon's Den and Tiger's Lair, it was simply purgatory!

"Roar!"

The black wolf soon realized that Zhu Yuan only had that short blade for self-defense, and it gradually began to move its feet to the side.

It moved left, and Zhu Yuan moved right.

But before she knew it, the wolf had silently shortened the distance between them!

At the critical moment, the black wolf lunged toward her; Zhu Yuan curled her body and rolled to dodge the attack, then scrambled up quickly, twisting her wrist to point the tip of the short blade at the wild wolf.

"Hiss—"

Zhu Yuan gasped.

Even with her quick reflexes, she was no match for the speed of the wild wolf; the back of her hand had just been slashed open by the black wolf's sharp claws, and as the blood flowed out, the scent of blood gradually spread.

In the four previously quiet iron cages, the wolf pack began to roar with excitement!

This further fueled the black wolf's momentum.

Zhu Yuan moved her sprained foot, and a piercing pain shot through her; she thought to herself that she was done for, but she dared not lose focus for even a second, keeping her eyes glued to the wild wolf's movements.

Pei Ling went from being interested at the start to having a cold face.

Just as Zhu Yuan was exhausted and cornered by the black wolf, Pei Ling stood up abruptly, one hand gripping the remote control while the other reached for the gun behind his waist.

The moment the black wolf lunged, Zhu Yuan gripped the Electric Baton tightly, but the black wolf's speed was too fast; it was almost instantaneous as it pounced on her, its foul-smelling sharp claws pressing down on her body.

The Electric Baton was knocked flying away.

The wolf's breath was inches away, sweeping warmly and dangerously across her face.

Just when she thought she was surely going to die today, she heard two bangs of gunfire by her ears.

The wild wolf on her body collapsed with a thud!

Zhu Yuan's mind went blank, and a sensation of intense heart palpitations spread through her chest, causing her vision to go black.

"Zhu Yuan!"

Before losing consciousness, she was lifted up by a pair of warm hands, and a familiar voice filled with anger reached her ears.

She mustered her last bit of strength, opened her eyes to look at the man's face that made her feel disgust, yet the words she asked were: "Why did you... come back?"

Wasn't it said that he was going on a business trip for four days?

Only two days had passed.

Don't tell her it was for her sake; she would hate him even more!

Sheng Yu quickly checked the external wounds on her body, his face cold, "Isn't it you who asked me when I would be back?"

But Zhu Yuan didn't hear this sentence at all before she fainted.

Sheng Yu picked her up horizontally and looked at Pei Ling opposite him with an exceptionally gloomy expression.

At the moment he fired his gun, Pei Ling had also fired.

Those two gunshots were fired by them simultaneously.
