Chapter 62: You Underestimated That Ungrateful Wretch's Ability to Fish for Information
Situ saw Sheng Yu smoking at the end of the hallway.
He walked over.
The man took a drag of his cigarette, the look in his eyes obscure and hard to discern, "Did she get the vaccine?"
"She did," Situ thought for a moment and added, "It shouldn't be very painful; it was over quickly."
He was a grown man who hadn't had a shot since he could remember, but he figured that something not even the size of a sesame seed couldn't possibly hurt that much.
Sheng Yu shot him a glare, "Do you need to spout nonsense?"
If it hurts her to death, she deserves it!
Situ lowered his head.
But thinking of the question Zhu Yuan had just asked him, although it was just asked in passing, since it concerned Miss Zhu, every detail had to be reported to Young Master Yu.
"Just now, Miss Zhu asked me a question."
The man flicked the ash from his cigarette and said nothing, but the implication was for him to continue.
Situ repeated Zhu Yuan's original words without missing a single one.
Sheng Yu's hand holding the cigarette paused, "How did you answer?"
"I told Miss Zhu that she was overthinking it."
But who would have thought, the man opposite him let out a cold sneer, his gaze sweeping sharply over the treatment room with the closed door, "She knows."
"What?"
Sheng Yu took a fierce drag of his cigarette and crushed it out, "You underestimated that ungrateful wretch's ability to fish for information."
Situ was stunned at first, and when he realized what had happened, cold sweat broke out on his forehead, "Young Master Yu, it was my oversight."
He should have denied it immediately.
"Just act as if you never mentioned it to me." Sheng Yu's tone was cold to the extreme.
He wanted to see what that dog-tempered woman was planning to do!
Zhu Yuan flexed her sprained right foot; the moment she moved, a piercing, stinging pain made a layer of cold sweat break out on her back.
She cursed under her breath, greeting Pei Ling's ancestors for eighteen generations, and used one hand to brace herself on the armrest of the hospital bed to stand up.
At this moment, the door to the treatment room opened from the outside.
Sheng Yu, in a black suit, stood at the doorway, his tall and upright frame blocking almost the entire exit.
As their eyes met, Zhu Yuan was the first to look away; she gritted her teeth, steadied herself against the bedside table, and limped toward the door.
Sheng Yu watched her with indifference as she walked toward him at a snail's pace, his gaze landing on the tip of her nose, where a fine layer of sweat beads floated on her small, delicate, pink nose.
She was panting like this after walking just a few steps, yet she still insisted on acting tough.
"If you're so capable, walk back to the hospital where your grandfather is staying yourself."
A surge of anger stifled her chest; Zhu Yuan took a deep breath, intending to push him away.
But the moment her hand touched the man, he gripped her wrist, yanked her into his arms, and easily scooped her up horizontally.
Zhu Yuan struggled instinctively.
The man tightened his arm, almost crushing her slender waist, and warned in a cold voice, "Behave! Do you think I want to hold you when you smell so foul?"
Of course Zhu Yuan knew she smelled foul; she had been pressed down by the claws of a wild wolf, and who knew how many animals those claws had hunted—how could she not smell?
"If Young Master Yu doesn't want to, then put me down; no one dares to force you. Besides, I'm certainly not stupid enough to walk back myself; I can call a car."
However, Sheng Yu ignored her, carried her downstairs, and sat inside the car.
The musky smell of the wolf in the car had originally dissipated after being aired out, but as soon as Zhu Yuan got in, that scent permeated the air again.
Zhu Yuan glanced awkwardly at Situ, who was driving.
Situ was focused on driving, as if he hadn't smelled the strange odor.
In the end, she couldn't take it anymore and pressed the window button herself.
As the wind rushed in, it also blew her senses back to her.
She was in Sheng Yu's car now; provoking him would do her no good at all.
She looked outside, while Sheng Yu's gaze remained fixed on her.
That highly aggressive stare was something Zhu Yuan simply couldn't ignore; she turned back to meet the man's deep, dark gaze, her heart pounding wildly, a suffocating sensation filling her chest.
She asked tentatively.
"Could you please take me home?"
She had told her grandfather she was going to the theater when she left this morning; it was impossible for her to go back this early.
Sheng Yu wore an expression that said whatever she wanted, and tossed the Medicine that Situ had just placed in the back seat to her.
It was mainly medicine for her sprained foot; the wound on the back of her hand needed regular dressing changes at the hospital.
"No need, I have some at home..."
"You want to say you have medicinal wine at home again? So what? You still have to use the medicine I gave you." Sheng Yu gave her no room for negotiation.
He sneered, "What, are you planning to draw a line between us once you've paid back the money?"
She wouldn't even use the medicine he gave her.
Zhu Yuan silently put away the bag containing the Medicine.
However, by the time she realized this wasn't the way to her house, it was already too late.
The car's speed was increasing, yet it remained steady.
The car drove into the Hot Spring Villa.
Sheng Yu carried her out of the car with a blank expression and walked all the way to the master bedroom on the second floor; seeing that the man was about to take her into the bathroom, Zhu Yuan couldn't help but clutch the clothes over her chest tightly.
The man placed her on the stool next to the bathtub, raised his eyes, and took in every one of her small movements.
Her rejection and vigilance seemed to have returned to how they were at the very beginning.
The man's brows were stained with a chill, "Doesn't a period last ten days or half a month? You might want to do it, but I don't want to fight a bloody battle with you."
The bathroom door was slammed shut.
Zhu Yuan felt like vomiting the moment she smelled the stench on her body, so she hurriedly took off her clothes to shower.
However, Sheng Yu was wrong.
She had originally gone to the hospital to see a gynecologist because of irregular bleeding; she hadn't taken the Medicine she brought back properly, so it wasn't regulated, and a few days ago, she had bled for two days before it stopped.
But it was best that Sheng Yu misunderstood.
By the time she finished her shower and walked out wearing a bathrobe, Sheng Yu was not in the room.
Just as Zhu Yuan thought he had left in anger, he returned, holding an ice pack in his hand.
"Stretch your foot out," the man commanded.
Zhu Yuan reached out to take the ice pack, "I'll do it myself."
Sheng Yu stared at her face, scoffed, shoved the ice pack into her hand, and turned around without a word, his gaze sweeping over the brand-new, unopened pack of sanitary pads on the chair by the bathroom door.
Soon, Zhu Yuan heard the sound of a car driving away.
She stared blankly at the ice pack covering her sprained area, her mind in a chaotic mess; it felt as if she had thought about many things, yet also as if she hadn't thought about anything at all, until the servant who brought in a glass of warm water reminded her.
"Miss Zhu, the ice pack shouldn't be pressed against the same spot for too long."
"Oh," Zhu Yuan snapped back to reality, "thank you."
Zhu Yuan took the warm water and took a sip.
"Miss Zhu, your foot is sprained, so it's inconvenient for you to go downstairs; lunch will be brought up in about five minutes." The servant took the water glass.
Zhu Yuan nodded, only then realizing it was already lunchtime.
After the servant went downstairs, Zhu Yuan limped to the walk-in closet, wanting to change out of the bathrobe she was wearing.
The last time she had an accident and stayed here for two days, Sheng Yu had someone buy a few outfits for her.
Sheng Yu's walk-in closet was very large; among the rows of black, white, and gray, a few brightly colored outfits stood out, surrounded by suits and coats.
Zhu Yuan raised her hand to take the clothes down, but she forgot about the sprain on her foot and accidentally bumped into the cabinet door.
"Ah!"
She stepped back in pain, but her lower back hit the cabinet behind her where cufflinks and collar pins were kept.
The drawer was knocked open by her, and a few boxes containing cufflinks fell out.
Zhu Yuan hurriedly squatted down to pick up the boxes; losing just one pair would cost more than she could earn in ten years of acting in plays.
But when she put the boxes back into the drawer, she saw an envelope inside the drawer.
In fact, envelopes are all much the same, with nothing special about them.
It was just that the envelope she had prepared to burn for Lu Huaizhan was one she had folded out of A4 paper, so it was very easy to recognize.
With trepidation, she picked up the envelope, opened it, and a photo of her slid out from inside.
