Chapter 84: No Bit of Being Moved
After hanging up the phone, Sheng Yu tossed his mobile phone onto the table and glanced at Situ, who was knocking on the door to enter with documents in his hand.
"Is it necessary to be this exaggerated?"
Situ stopped in his tracks subconsciously, knowing which matter he was referring to; it couldn't even be described as exaggerated, it was simply insane, causing Miss Zhu's vote count to crush everyone else.
He had just ordered people to investigate, and the results were already out, but he hadn't had the chance to report to Sheng Yu yet.
"Young Master Yu, another party has also made a move." He stood where he was.
Sheng Yu narrowed his eyes, "The one surnamed Pei?"
Situ nodded. He looked up at Sheng Yu's gloomy expression and said truthfully, "They made their move after us."
It was very much intended to cause trouble for someone.
The man sneered, "He's getting too big for his boots."
His woman—what business was it of the one surnamed Pei?
Provoking him time and time again; by what right did Ning Chu's makeup artist dare to send the video to the group chat?
Sent by mistake? Others might believe it, but he certainly didn't.
That same noon, the Pei Family Bank received a local courier delivery.
The manager scanned the package to ensure there were no dangerous items before handing it to Pei Ling.
"Second Master, this was sent to you."
"Where is it from?" Pei Ling didn't reach out to take it, nor did he even glance at it; he tossed a piece of raw, bloody meat into a cage, where a wolf cub pounced to gnaw on it.
The manager still had lingering trauma from the time Sheng Yu stormed into the Pei Family Bank, and his spine chilled at the mention of that person, "It is... from President Sheng of the Sheng Family."
Only then did Pei Ling look over with a leisurely gaze, wipe the bloodstains from his hands, and take the package to open it.
It was a check, signed: Sheng Yu.
"Heh," Pei Ling glanced at the amount written on the check, which was exactly the money he had spent on internet trolls. He casually tossed the check to the manager, "Since President Sheng is so generous, take this money and buy some more trolls for Zhu Yuan to liven things up."
The manager bit the bullet, "It can't be bought anymore."
"Why?"
"The outcome is decided; Miss Zhu's dance video has been taken down, and the voting channel has been closed early."
Pei Ling frowned in displeasure and took out his phone to open the social media platform.
Sure enough, the video had been taken down.
That mad dog wouldn't even give others one extra second to watch his woman dance.
Watching Pei Ling's sullen face, the manager held the check with both hands, trembling, "Then this..."
The outcome is decided, is it?
Pei Ling glanced at the wolf cub in the cage and scoffed, "Then use this money to buy flower baskets and wish Miss Zhu a successful performance."
"All... all of it?" The manager looked at the amount on the check in horror.
I'm afraid that not even the entire theater, plus the whole street outside, could hold that many flower baskets.
A hint of playfulness flashed in Pei Ling's eyes, "Then send them every day until they're all gone."
Zhu Yuan didn't go to the theater until the afternoon.
Her legs were sore, so she had soaked in the hot spring at the Hot Spring Villa and rested all morning to recover, but fortunately, after Sheng Yu left for the company in the morning, he didn't appear again, allowing her to relax and eat lunch without feeling constrained or afraid.
But as soon as she entered the dressing room, she was stunned by the room full of flower baskets.
Pale blue, pink, and champagne-colored flowers piled up the room, and the fragrance of flowers rushed toward her.
"Xiao Fengzheng, look! Such beautiful flowers! They're all for you!" Ji Xiang came over excitedly to pull her hand.
Zhu Yuan was still out of it; being pulled by Ji Xiang, she stumbled and almost bumped into a flower basket.
She quickly steadied herself and subconsciously looked at the ribbons on the baskets; every basket was tied with a ribbon of the same color—the green she liked.
Wishing you a successful performance—Pei Ling
Zhu Yuan clenched her fingers tightly; could the top donor Ji Xiang mentioned be Pei Ling?
She had thought it was...
"So beautiful! I didn't expect Second Master Pei to be so romantic!" Ji Xiang's exclamation pulled Zhu Yuan's thoughts back.
"Yeah, I'm so envious of Xiao Fengzheng!"
"These flowers must be very expensive; I can't even name most of them."
"Of course, can Second Master Pei ever be short of money?"
Listening to the chatter of the people around her, Zhu Yuan looked at the room full of flower baskets; there were too many, almost filling every spare space in the dressing room.
She frowned; there was not the slightest bit of being moved or proud on her face from receiving so many fresh flowers. She picked up one of the baskets and started to walk out.
"Hey, Xiao Fengzheng, where are you going?"
Zhu Yuan didn't look back, "Move these away; Ji Xiang, help me."
Seeing that she was serious, Ji Xiang hesitated for two seconds, stamped her foot, and reluctantly picked up a flower basket to follow her pace.
"Ning Chu hasn't come yet; I want to see her reaction when she sees Second Master Pei sent you so many flower baskets," Ji Xiang muttered, placing the flower basket at the back door.
"Isn't she very confident she would win against you? Now that she's lost the role, she must be too afraid to come. If she saw how attentive Second Master Pei is to you, wouldn't she be furious?"
Zhu Yuan untied the green ribbon on the flower basket and threw it into the trash can, "Winning the role is enough to make her furious; there's no need for anything else."
Besides, when a man sends a girl flowers, it means he likes her, that it's admiration.
When Pei Ling sends them to her, that's not what it is.
Just because Pei Ling came to find her and said things that caused misunderstandings, Sheng Yu flew into such a rage. If he knew Pei Ling was doing these things behind his back, wouldn't he tear her to pieces?
She didn't need to add fuel to the fire for Ning Chu and provoke Sheng Yu again.
The two of them went back and forth several times before they finally moved all the flower baskets from the dressing room to the back door.
After arriving at the back door and seeing this scene, Regiment Commander Hao felt his scalp tingle, "My ancestor, why did you move all the flower baskets out? Such beautiful flowers, wouldn't it be a waste to just leave them here?"
"If the Regiment Commander likes them so much, I'll have them sent to your room," Zhu Yuan said, panting, with a straight face.
"What would I do with these flowers!" Regiment Commander Hao slapped his forehead, frustrated by her lack of sense, "You are slapping Second Master Pei in the face by doing this; what kind of nerve do you have to dare to do such a thing? I will warn the others not to spread this around; you should hurry and move them back now."
Yet Zhu Yuan remained unmoved, tearing off all the ribbons printed with writing from the flower baskets and throwing them into the trash can.
Regiment Commander Hao went to grab the ribbons, "Don't throw them away!"
But with one tug, Zhu Yuan pulled the slippery ribbons back.
Even if it really was Pei Ling who helped her win the role, she did not feel moved in the slightest; she only wondered if it was another trap.
Could it be another move to provoke Sheng Yu?
Had Pei Ling not harmed her enough already?
Knowing full well that Sheng Yu was occupying her, he still deliberately said things in front of so many people that would cause misunderstandings, and even went so far as to send her so many flowers with great fanfare.
He wanted to cause trouble for Sheng Yu, but he had never considered her situation.
A person like this definitely did not like her.
Instead, he was using her.
Zhu Yuan was clear-headed, and ignoring Regiment Commander Hao's attempts to stop her, she threw all the ribbons into the trash can.
If she weren't afraid of increasing the workload for the sanitation workers, she would have wanted to kick over all the flower baskets.
She turned and walked into the back door, but her phone rang at this moment.
Looking at the unfamiliar number jumping on the screen, Zhu Yuan frowned.
Regiment Commander Hao had sharp eyes and recognized it, staring at her with an expression as if disaster were imminent, "It's Second Master Pei's call."
