Chapter 9: If You Need Something, It's Yu Ge; If Not, It's Young Master Yu

~7 min read 1,308 words

Yuan Fengye carefully weighed his words and said respectfully, "It's Zhu Yuan. She said she has something to discuss with you and asked me to call you."

Sheng Yu gave a low response.

Yuan Fengye let out a silent sigh of relief; it seemed Yu Ge was no longer angry.

Watching the rapid changes in expression on Yuan Fengye's face, Zhu Yuan witnessed the pressure of "being with a ruler is like being with a tiger" and silently apologized in her heart, feeling bad for putting him in a difficult position.

A moment later, not knowing what Sheng Yu had said on the other end of the line, Yuan Fengye handed the phone to her, "Yu Ge wants you to take the call."

Zhu Yuan gripped the phone and held it to her ear, hesitating on how to begin. Because of this hesitation, a few seconds passed, and she heard Sheng Yu's indifferent tone, "Mute again?"

"Yu... Yu Ge." Zhu Yuan stammered, forgetting how she should address him.

This man's aura was truly too powerful, to the point that even just over the phone, she felt as if she were being crushed and unable to breathe.

Sheng Yu flicked the ash from his cigarette, bit the filter, and chuckled, "When you need something, it's Yu Ge; when you don't, it's Young Master Yu. Such a small face, yet you have two different masks."

Zhu Yuan's face flushed red from being called out.

She had already experienced the sharp-tongued nature of this eldest young master of the Sheng Family.

"Speak, what is it?"

Zhu Yuan's heart raced in panic, not knowing how to start. She had originally thought she would be able to smoothly bring up borrowing money once she saw him, but now that the moment had arrived, she realized how difficult it was; she found it hard to speak even over the phone, let alone face-to-face.

She glanced at Yuan Fengye, who was standing beside her pretending to be nonchalant but actually eavesdropping, and moved her feet slowly to the side.

The person on the other end of the line was in no hurry to urge her, so she whispered, "Nothing, just calling to say hello."

It seemed that borrowing money from Sheng Yu was too difficult; she should think of other ways.

Just as she finished speaking, a low scoff came from the receiver.

In the dim room, Sheng Yu's gaze was as heavy as mist, and he did not expose her, "You may call me 'Ge' because of Lu Huaizhan, but you don't need to pay me your respects."

After hanging up the phone, Sheng Yu unbuttoned two buttons of his pajamas, lowered his head to smoke, and the emotions in his eyes were dark and obscure.

Afterward, he picked up his phone, stood up, walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, and dialed Situ's number.

"Come over here."

Situ woke up in a second; he was staying in another room of the presidential suite and arrived at Sheng Yu's room quickly, "Young Master Yu."

Sheng Yu lowered his head to light a cigarette, "Move tomorrow's meeting earlier."

Situ's expression only paused for a moment before he said respectfully, "Yes."

In the past, it was common to compress work to finish a business trip early, so he wasn't overly surprised, but calling him over in the middle of the night just for this was truly not like Young Master Yu's usual style.

Sheng Yu stood by the floor-to-ceiling window smoking. Situ glanced at him; Young Master Yu didn't smoke much, so why had he been smoking so frequently lately?

"Young Master Yu, if there is nothing else, you should get some..."

"Check what happened to Zhu Yuan these past two days." Behind the man was the city night, his side profile distinct and three-dimensional, revealing a hazy depth.

Situ was stunned, "What kind of matters?"

Sheng Yu flicked the ash from his cigarette, "Everything."

Zhu Yuan returned the phone to Yuan Fengye, "Thank you."

"You're too polite, little sister-in-law." Yuan Fengye took the phone.

Zhu Yuan knew Yuan Fengye was very wealthy and that her grandfather's medical expenses were nothing to him, but she also knew very clearly that Sheng Yu was not to be trifled with, and neither was Yuan Fengye.

The fact that he could speak to her nicely now was all for the sake of Lu Huaizhan.

She couldn't borrow this money from him either.

After saying goodbye to Yuan Fengye, Zhu Yuan left the Sheng Group, hailed a taxi, and gave the driver an address.

Today is the 29th, and tomorrow is the last day of the month. If her grandfather's medical expenses weren't settled, the hospital would definitely stop his treatment. She couldn't just wait around like this.

The taxi drove toward the suburbs and finally stopped in front of an antique building.

Zhu Yuan got out of the car but was stopped at the entrance by a Bodyguard, "What are you here for?"

"I'm here to borrow money; please let me in."

Everyone in Kyoto knew what kind of transactions took place inside this residence, yet many people still came and went every day.

The Pei Family started out in the underworld; they were ruthless, and the interest rates for their loans were ridiculously high. Their only advantage was that it was easy to borrow money.

When Zhu Yuan was at the drama academy, she heard that a female classmate had come here to borrow money and later went missing after failing to pay it back. The school had to use various connections to get her back, and it was said that when the classmate was brought home, she was already mentally unstable.

Because of this incident, the school repeatedly emphasized that this place was a Dragon's Den and Tiger's Lair and a forbidden zone.

If it weren't for being at her wit's end, she would never have come to this place.

Upon hearing her intent, the Bodyguard waved his hand and told someone to take Zhu Yuan inside.

However, before Zhu Yuan could see anyone, she was informed by the manager, "Sorry, young lady, our Second Master of the Pei Family said we aren't doing business today. Please go back."

"Not doing business?" Zhu Yuan's heart skipped a beat.

How could everything happen all at once?

Sheng Yu is on a business trip.

The Pei Family Bank is not doing business.

At this moment, a black off-road vehicle pulled up to the other side of the gate.

Zhu Yuan saw a tall man with wheat-colored skin get out of the car. The man had black over-ear headphones hanging around his neck and was swinging an eye mask in his hand as he brushed past her.

She heard the Bodyguard call him Second Master.

He was the person in charge of the Pei Family Bank, the Second Master of the Pei Family!

"Pei..."

Zhu Yuan took a step to chase after him but was stopped by the Bodyguard, who coldly scolded, "Please leave immediately."

"I really have an emergency, please let me go in." Zhu Yuan looked anxiously at the back of the man walking further and further away.

If she missed this opportunity, where else could she go to borrow money for her grandfather?

At the mere thought of this, Zhu Yuan's face flushed red with anxiety, beads of sweat broke out on her forehead, and she moved to push past the Bodyguard's obstruction, "Second Master Pei... Mmph!"

The Bodyguard's expression changed, and he forcefully covered Zhu Yuan's mouth, "You dare to block Second Master's path? Are you looking for death!"

The man walking away seemed to have heard the commotion; he merely glanced back once before withdrawing his gaze, his tone cold and indifferent, "Who is that?"

The manager replied respectfully, "Someone here to borrow money."

"Drive them away."
