Chapter 91: Pei Ling is going to take her to see Sheng Yu!
Zhu Yuan forced herself to enter a state of acting, but when she bought the cufflinks, the image in her mind was of Sheng Yu wearing a dress shirt; she hadn't thought of Pei Ling at all.
So much so that when the lie left her lips, her face turned red instinctively.
It was a natural reaction of embarrassment and nervousness, but to others, it looked like shyness.
As the saying goes, flattery will get you everywhere; this tactic worked even on Pei Ling.
Sure enough, after hearing her words, Pei Ling closed the box containing the cufflinks, tucked it into his pocket, and scoffed, "I'll let you off the hook."
At this moment, his phone rang.
Taking advantage of him answering the call, Zhu Yuan quickly pulled the car door open, wishing she could disappear from there immediately.
Pei Ling glanced casually at her action of opening the door and let her be, only listening to what the person on the other end of the line said.
His expression suddenly turned cold, "So fast."
Just as Zhu Yuan pulled the door open, her arm was clamped by a large hand; her whole body stiffened as she was dragged back.
Pei Ling hung up the phone, looked at the panic she couldn't hide in time, and smiled meaningfully, "I've changed my mind."
The Bodyguard got out from the driver's seat, and Pei Ling forcibly shoved Zhu Yuan into the passenger seat and fastened her seatbelt.
"I want to get out of the car!" Zhu Yuan reached back to unbuckle the seatbelt.
He pressed down on her struggling shoulder with one hand, "Taking you to a fun place."
After saying that, he slammed the passenger door shut, walked around the front of the car, and sat in the driver's seat.
The car door closed, and the intense pressure made Zhu Yuan's whole body tense up.
The next second, Pei Ling stepped on the gas, and the car practically flew out; Zhu Yuan hurriedly gripped the handle on the door to keep herself from slamming into it.
The road ahead became increasingly empty, and the car drove faster and faster.
Zhu Yuan's heartbeat trembled along with the roar of the car, and the road ahead felt inexplicably familiar, until she saw the road sign and realized this road led to the Airport.
Why was Pei Ling taking her to the Airport?
He had answered a call earlier and seemed to have said, "So fast."
What was so fast?
The Airport... the Airport!
Zhu Yuan's heartbeat suddenly stalled for a moment, a thought flashed through her mind, and she said urgently, "I want to get out! Let me out!"
It was Sheng Yu returning; Pei Ling was taking her to see Sheng Yu!
"I want to get out!" Zhu Yuan's eyes were bloodshot; she couldn't let Sheng Yu see her in Pei Ling's car, it would cost her her life!
Pei Ling, however, had no intention of stopping; instead, upon hearing her resistance, he floored the gas pedal.
The car shot out like an arrow released from a bowstring.
Yet, he had underestimated Zhu Yuan's ruthlessness.
The howling cold wind poured into the cabin from the lowered window.
When he saw Zhu Yuan unbuckle her seatbelt and try to jump out the window, Pei Ling narrowed his eyes, reached out a hand to drag her back, and pinned her firmly to the passenger seat.
He said viciously, "Don't be impatient, you'll see the person you've been longing for soon."
The terminal was right in front of them, and when Zhu Yuan saw a black sedan ahead, the color in her face seemed to be sucked away by a sponge in an instant.
The tall, upright man was wearing a long black trench coat, his cold, clear brows and eyes showing no trace of the fatigue of a long journey; he stood in front of the car and lit a cigarette.
A harsh screech of brakes sounded in his ears, and he bit down on his cigarette, slowly lifting his gaze.
He locked eyes with the pale-faced woman in the passenger seat of the car.
Pei Ling glanced at the two people looking at each other from across the windshield, a provocative smile curling his lips, and then he slammed his foot on the gas, and the car sped away!
The car drove faster and faster, so fast that Zhu Yuan trembled along with the speeding vehicle, a wave of nausea churning in her stomach.
Zhu Yuan endured the nausea, clutched her chest to try and suppress her frantic heartbeat, and glanced at the rearview mirror.
One look was all it took; the road was empty under the towering streetlights.
No car was following.
In an instant, a deeper, thicker sense of suffocation enveloped her; she couldn't tell if it was despair or disappointment, only feeling as if her heart had a hole in it, with the howling cold wind blowing wildly inside.
Suddenly, a roar like a wild beast came from ahead.
The blinding headlights forced Zhu Yuan to look away, but for a split second, amidst the dazzling light, she saw Sheng Yu's cold, stern face, sweeping in like a god of slaughter amidst a storm.
The two cars drew closer and closer, with no sign of slowing down at all.
The continuous roaring sounded like two wild beasts fighting to the death, and the familiar, suffocating feeling of impending death made Zhu Yuan close her eyes in despair.
The woman's pale, colorless face.
The sob suppressed in her throat.
The men stepped on their brakes at the same time!
The two cars, fast as lightning, stopped in an instant.
The roaring stopped abruptly, and the dusty, noisy road returned to silence.
Situ, who had been following behind, watched this scene, his heart still pounding; just a little bit, just a little bit more and he thought Young Master Yu would have crashed into them!
Zhu Yuan pulled the door open and rushed out of the car, her legs weak; she stumbled a few steps, grabbed the roadside guardrail, and bent over, gasping for air. The cold air she inhaled forced her to cough, and only then did the suffocating feeling of impending death begin to ease.
Watching the man get out of the car opposite, Pei Ling also opened his door and scoffed, "I sent your woman to the Airport to pick you up, why are you still wearing such an unhappy expression?"
Sheng Yu took off his long trench coat and threw it into the car, loosened his tie, his whole body exuding an arrogant, cold aura.
Facing Pei Ling's provocation, he said nonchalantly, "It seems the flower basket I sent to the Pei Family Ancestral Grave last time didn't satisfy you. Next time, I'll send it directly to your grave so you can be happy underground."
Pei Ling's expression gradually turned cold.
As the distance between the two closed, Situ was already prepared to draw his gun.
But when he saw Sheng Yu stride over on his long legs toward Zhu Yuan, who was gasping by the roadside, he realized that Young Master Yu would not use violence in front of Miss Zhu.
Ever since Miss Zhu was taken to perform on the cruise ship last time, and Young Master Yu flew into a rage at the Hot Spring Villa, kicking tables and throwing things in front of Miss Zhu, he had avoided Miss Zhu every time he dealt with Second Master Pei.
Zhu Yuan was pulled over by a large, warm hand, and as her body stumbled, she crashed into the man's chest.
That warm hand pulled her in tight, but his cold voice poured into her ears like a winter gale, "We'll talk when we get back."
Smelling the faint scent of tobacco on the man, Zhu Yuan's inexplicable peace of mind was replaced by panic.
In the car, the man did not say a word; he did not touch her, nor did he look at her.
Situ parked the car in the open space in front of the Hot Spring Villa.
Sheng Yu opened the door and got out, and Situ signaled with his eyes for Zhu Yuan to hurry and follow.
The lights were not on on the first floor, and in the quiet living room, there was only the sound of the wall clock swinging.
Upon hearing the chime of the hour, Zhu Yuan looked over instinctively.
It was midnight.
It was now November 11th.
Looking at the man's cold, tense profile, the gift was already gone.
He was currently in a fit of anger, and what she would face next was hard for her to imagine.
Zhu Yuan knew deep down that she had no way to appease him, but suddenly, the moment the man stepped onto the stairs, she threw caution to the wind and hugged his waist from behind.
Her soft voice was like sunlight covering ice and snow, "Happy birthday, Yu Ge."
The strong waist she had wrapped her arms around suddenly stiffened.
