Chapter 150: How Is It a Fairy Sister?
Night fell, in Yi Jiang's room.
The little fellow, red-eyed and aggrieved, lay face-down on the bed, letting the steward apply medicine for him.
While applying the medicine, Steward Zhao sighed.
"Young Master, please don't make Old Master and the master angry anymore."
"Don't mention him to me!"
Yi Jiang clenched his small fists and smashed the pillow in a huff.
He took his story book and didn't even bother to come help persuade Grandfather.
He shouted so loudly that it could be heard clearly at the main gate, yet Father didn't even glance back at him!
Hmph!
What a heartless man!
No self-awareness at all about taking someone's stuff!
The steward was startled by the commotion he'd just made, his hand trembled, and he pressed directly on the wound.
"Oww! That hurts!"
Yi Jiang sucked in a sharp breath, tears springing to his eyes from the pain, and turned his pitiful little face toward the steward.
"Steward Zhao, please be a little gentler."
Seeing him like this, Steward Zhao's face was full of heartache as he promised.
"Sorry, Young Master, my hand slipped just now. It absolutely won't happen again."
Meanwhile, Yi Jiang's wails rang out one after another as the medicine was applied.
In the Study, Chen Ying was reading with great absorption.
Chen Delin pushed the door open with a long sigh.
Looking at his son behind the desk, not knowing what he was reading, he let out another heavy sigh.
"Your son is so rowdy he's practically climbing to the heavens, and you still have the mind to read?"
Hearing this, Chen Ying glanced up at his father for a moment, then continued staring at the Little Booklet, his tone very calm.
"Although it is indeed a bit improper, the fact that he's made great progress recently is also true."
"Hmph!"
Chen Delin walked over and sat down beside the chair, his face taut with displeasure, the whiskers at the corner of his mouth trembling twice with anger.
"Speaking of which makes me even angrier. We spent so much time and effort finding him a tutor, changed so many teachers, and in the end, it turns out a made-up story is still more useful than all of them."
Meanwhile, Chen Ying turned another page, comforting his father with a divided attention.
"Father, have you considered that perhaps this method suits Yi Jiang better?"
Hearing this, Chen Delin opened his mouth, words on the tip of his tongue, but upon thinking of his grandson's tear-reddened eyes from earlier and the already hoarse little voice from crying, he swallowed them back, saying nothing in the end.
After all, he only had this one grandson—what could he do?
"Since you also say this method suits Yi Jiang better, then hurry up and return the Little Booklet to him."
Chen Ying hummed in acknowledgment, blurting out a sentence without thinking.
"Wait until I..."
... finish reading.
Halfway through, he suddenly realized and quickly corrected himself.
"Ahem!"
"Let's discuss it tomorrow. It's getting late—let him rest well first."
Chen Delin nodded.
"True enough. Reading at night is bad for the eyes. Don't end up not learning much and ruining your eyesight instead."
Listening to the rustle of turning pages, Chen Delin looked over suspiciously.
"I've been wanting to ask. The Disaster Relief matters have already wound down, and nothing's happened in the city either. What are you still reading?"
As he spoke, he had already walked over to the desk.
"Oh."
Chen Ying quickly closed the book spread out beneath the Little Booklet, revealing a dark cyan cover.
"With nothing to do, I thought I'd look at the Account Book."
Seeing it was an Account Book, Chen Delin instantly lost all desire to pick it up and look, turning to amble slowly back out.
"It's late. You should rest early too."
Seeing this, Chen Ying secretly breathed a sigh of relief. The last time he'd sneakily read a Picture Book like this was when he was eight years old.
Back then, after being discovered by his father, he'd been strung up and beaten.
Even now, recalling it, he still felt a dull ache in his back.
Hating his own cowardly display just now, Chen Ying gave a self-mocking smile.
He really had flinched out of pure instinct just now.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
"Master, there's news from the Capital."
Hearing this, Chen Ying's expression changed, and he said in a low voice toward the door.
"Enter!"
A guard dressed in black walked in.
"What has happened in the Capital?"
"Master, something major has indeed happened. The Zhou Family..."
The guard quickly explained how Zhou had been framed.
"Zhou Old General submitted three memorials to plead his case, but the Xiyue Emperor didn't even look at them. He seems determined to kill Zhou to put this matter to rest."
Chen Ying lowered her eyes, lost in thought, and waved a hand.
"I understand. You may go."
After the guard left, Chen Ying furrowed her brow, rose, and paced back and forth in the Study, muttering to herself.
"If something happens to Zhou, Zhou Old General would suddenly lose his son — he may not be able to bear such a blow. And on top of that, Zhou Old General is already advanced in age."
"Whether the Military Power can be kept is another matter, but I'm afraid Zhou Old General… if anything happens to him, Da Yin will be left without a general fit for use."
Thinking of this, Chen Ying let out a heavy sigh.
"I should notify the Cheng Family as soon as possible."
"Yes, notify them. Notify them right away."
Chen Ying: "!!!"
"Who?!"
Startled, she spun sharply toward the source of the sound.
Seeing a familiar figure, Chen Ying breathed a sigh of relief.
"Father, when did you get back?"
"Just now, while you were pacing around the room."
Chen Delin flipped through the Little Booklet in his hands without looking up, and snorted twice.
"I knew you little rascal had something fishy going on. Caught you red-handed, didn't I?"
Chen Delin stroked his beard a couple of times.
Sorry about that, Xiao Yu'an. I was talking too loudly earlier.
Though I have to say, this little story is really well written.
Quite a good read, actually.
No wonder Yi Jiang — who normally falls asleep at the sight of words — was completely absorbed. Just to be able to read the story on her own, she chased after people to learn how to recognize characters.
"Father!"
Chen Ying, helpless, raised her voice.
"Did you hear what I just said?"
Chen Delin glanced up at her, looking far more composed by comparison.
"I heard. Isn't it just about the Zhou Family being framed? Don't worry — the Cheng Family definitely knew before you did."
Saying so, he stood up and stretched.
"But you do have a point. Tomorrow, I'll take Yi Jiang to the Cheng Family and discuss matters with Cheng Old Madam."
"Also, send a letter to You Ke, and have him stay on standby."
Chen Delin let out a long, low sigh.
"I'm afraid things are about to get chaotic."
With that, he rubbed his face and headed for the door.
"You carry on. I'm heading back."
After only a few steps, he turned back, nimbly snatched up the Little Booklet, and tucked it into his robes.
"This is confiscated!"
Chen Ying's mouth pressed into a thin line: "…"
Father really can't stay serious for more than three seconds!
Watching her own father stride out with measured, pompous steps, Chen Ying's voice was full of helplessness.
"You're going to discuss important matters with Cheng Old Madam — why bring Yi Jiang along?"
Chen Delin glanced back at her, giving her a look that said, 'You really are dense — can't you figure that out?'
"Of course it's to send Yi Jiang over for a few days, or to bring Yu'an here as a guest, so Yu'an can take Yi Jiang and study properly."
Chen Ying: "…"
Fine.
In the little courtyard at the foot of the Mountain outside the city, Yu'an had no idea someone was thinking of her. Right now, the little one's belly rose and fell under the blanket, sound asleep.
Suddenly, the Small Dumpling's little mouth curved upward — clearly having a sweet dream.
In the dream, their whole family was out playing. She held Daddy with one hand and her mother with the other. Ahead of her were Great-Grandmother and Grandmother, and behind her followed the Aunts.
But who was the person Little Uncle was holding hands with?
Yu'an looked closely, and her little mouth fell open.
Why is it Fairy Sister?!
