Chapter 61: Chapter Sixty-One: Who Is It?
Cheng Chengxuan was pretty baffled at this moment.
Who would've known—he'd been traveling for a long time and was just about to wash his face by the river to clear his head.
His vision blurred, and he'd switched locations!
He carefully surveyed his surroundings.
A milky-white cabinet built into the wall, a wide and soft bed, a fluffy carpet beside the bed…
A small table sat by the head of the bed, and on it was a portrait set in colored glass.
Looking at the woman in the portrait, beaming with a bright, radiant smile, Cheng Chengxuan's ear-tips flushed red.
How had he ended up at that young lady's home again?
So this time, he'd gone straight into that young lady's boudoir?
How presumptuous, how terribly rude.
Suddenly, his ears twitched, his expression hardened, and a sharp gaze shot toward the slightly ajar door.
There was movement!
He tiptoed to the door, just in time to see two strangely dressed men—one fat, one thin—sneaking up on that young lady.
"Hold it right there!"
Cheng Chengxuan bellowed and rushed out in quick strides.
"Ah! A ghost!"
The two intruders were badly startled by him.
Especially since he was currently dressed in ancient clothing, his feet channeling Lightness Skill, his steps so fast they left afterimages.
The two men shouted, no longer caring about any mission or payment, turned and ran for their lives.
But how could they possibly outrun Cheng Chengxuan?
Once caught, each took a hand-chop to the neck and crashed solidly onto the floor.
Having knocked the would-be assailants out, Cheng Chengxuan turned to look at An Luo, who was slumped over the table.
"Miss?"
Noticing something was off with her, he hurried to An Luo's side, hesitated for a few seconds, then still reached out and gently patted her arm twice.
"Miss, are you alright?"
And just then, he suddenly looked up toward the doorway.
"Who?!"
At the door now stood a man in a gray tracksuit, wearing a cap and a mask.
His face was covered so thoroughly that no one could read his expression, and naturally couldn't see his mouth hanging wide open in utter shock.
"There's still an accomplice!"
Cheng Chengxuan clenched his fist and rushed forward; just as his fist was about to smash into the man's face, Cheng Chengxuan vanished right before the man's eyes.
"Chengxuan…"
Just then, a wailing police siren rose from downstairs.
The man in the gray tracksuit, no longer caring about his shock, quickly ducked into the stairwell.
Less than two minutes after he left, the two knocked-out men rubbed the backs of their necks and climbed up off the floor.
The thinner man looked around in terror.
"Biao, I just saw a ghost!"
Dressed in ancient costume, flying straight at them—what else could it be but a ghost?!
The stockier man slapped the back of his head.
"What nonsense are you spouting?"
He glanced at the glaring sunlight outside the window.
He shouted loudly, as if to bolster his own courage.
"Bright daylight, blazing sun—which ghost would be that desperate?!"
The thinner man tugged at his sleeve.
"Well, he was already dead to begin with."
The stocky man raised his fist and waved it at him.
"Shut up and get on with the job!"
The two slowly walked toward the unconscious An Luo.
Just as they were about to bundle her away, they suddenly heard:
"Don't move! Hands up!"
Officer Lu had arrived at An Luo's home in the nick of time with several colleagues.
Just reaching the door, they spotted the two men trying to kidnap her.
The two promptly hugged their heads and squatted down.
The motion was practiced and smooth—clearly the product of long experience.
"Take them back first!"
Noticing the unconscious An Luo, Officer Lu quickly carried her outside.
"Leave two people to check the scene, bring the takeout on the table back for testing—I'm taking her to the hospital first!"
Outside the complex, in a low-key minivan, the man in the gray tracksuit sat in the back seat.
The driver glanced at him.
"President, the police are already here. Should we head back?"
The man kept his gaze lowered, lost in thought.
After a long while, he gave a slight nod.
"Let's go."
Meanwhile, in the Dayin Dynasty, by a river somewhere.
Cheng Chengxuan lunged forward suddenly, nearly plunging headfirst into the water.
He looked around, his brow furrowed as he took in the familiar scenery.
"I'm back?"
"What about that young lady?"
"And the man at the door — he called out 'Cheng Chengxuan'?"
How does he know me?
And those eyes gave him a strangely familiar feeling…
Modern Era, a hospital room.
An Luo sat up, rubbing her groggy head.
"Officer Lu?"
"What happened to me?"
Officer Lu handed her the test results.
"There were traces of sleeping pills in your system."
An Luo gasped, taking the results.
"Sleeping pills?!"
"It was that takeout!"
Officer Lu nodded.
"We received a strange emergency call reporting a home invasion at your address. When we arrived, we found your front door wide open, two sneaky-looking men in the living room, and you unconscious."
"But don't worry, we're investigating. I'm sure we'll have results soon."
An Luo's face darkened.
No need to think — it had to be the Gu Family's doing!
Bribes, the family ties card, moral blackmail — none of it worked, so this time they just went straight to robbery, did they!
What a bunch of scumbags!
"Officer Lu, I suspect the Gu Family is behind this."
"Don't worry, we'll definitely get to the bottom of it. I suggest you don't live alone for now — you could stay with a rela… a friend's place for a couple of days."
An Luo smiled and nodded.
"Alright, I understand."
"Regarding those two posts, Xu Jing has already confessed that Gu Yunqing instructed her to do it. She's an accomplice — at most a fine plus a few days of detention."
"As for Gu Yunqing, her situation is more complicated and involves other matters. I can't say more."
An Luo smiled and thanked him.
"Alright, I understand. Thank you, Officer Lu."
An Luo first reported to Zaituan that she was safe, then left the hospital and headed straight to Lin Lin's place.
Meanwhile, the atmosphere at the Gu Family was far from relaxed.
Gu Yunjing slammed his phone hard onto the ground, shattering it to pieces. With a dark expression, he turned to his bodyguard Xiao Liu, who stood nearby.
"Look at the useless people you found! They can't even handle such a simple task!"
Xiao Liu quickly lowered his head and apologized.
"I'm sorry, Young Master."
"But don't worry, Young Master. A Biao and the others are tight-lipped — they won't rat us out."
Gu Yunjing glanced up at him and let out a cold laugh.
"Us?"
He stood up and reached out to pat Xiao Liu's face.
"You're wrong. It's only you — what does this have to do with me?"
"Where did 'us' come from?"
Xiao Liu's face went pale.
"Young Master, you…"
Just then, the landline beside him rang.
Gu Yunjing waved impatiently, signaling him to answer it quickly.
"Hello, this is the Gu residence."
It was Gu Madam calling, her tone very anxious.
"Why isn't Jing'er's phone going through? Tell him to leave quickly — the farther the better. Old Gu has gone mad — he actually wants to take one of Jing'er's kidneys!"
Hearing this, a flicker passed through Xiao Liu's eyes, and a strange smile curled at the corner of his mouth.
"Understood, Madam. I'll pass that along to the Young Master right away."
Gu Yunjing leaned back on the sofa, rubbing his brow.
"What did my mother say now?"
Xiao Liu bowed slightly.
"Good news, Young Master. Madam says the Chairman can have the surgery soon and asks you to go to the hospital to wait for news together."
Gu Yunjing hurriedly stood up.
"But did a new kidney source come in?"
"Let's go, to the hospital!"
