Chapter 274: In My Eyes, You Are Jade

~6 min read 1,158 words

Qin Shou, who was kicked out, is sulking at the main gate; why only kick him out and not Lu Cheng?

He tried several times to tell the Security Department, even flashing his father's identity, but still failed; Security Department Section Chief Zhang Shu simply wouldn't let him in.

Angry, Qin Shou kept kicking the wall, misjudged an angle, accidentally kicked his toe, and sat there clutching his foot, grimacing and shouting.

Damn, nothing good ever happens when I run into Lu Cheng.

At that moment, he suddenly calmed down and recalled Lin Qingyan's marriage.

Married? Lin Qingyan actually got married? Who on earth would be bold enough to take a criminal's daughter as a wife?

Various doubts surfaced in his mind; perhaps as a police instinct, he suddenly analyzed it.

Could it be Lu Cheng?

Recalling the last time at Hua Bing Chang, Lin Qingyan had actually kissed Lu Cheng, which seemed unreasonable.

Back then he thought it was because Lu Cheng heroically rescued her and Lin Qingyan was moved, but now it definitely doesn't add up.

First, in this era a young lady kissing a man in public is impossible, and Lin Qingyan is a conservative woman, even less likely to kiss another man.

Also tonight, among so many outstanding youths, officers invited Lin Qingyan to dance but she barely glanced at them; yet when Lu Cheng arrived, his eyes clearly showed delight.

All these signs indicate that Lin Qingyan married Lu Cheng.

Thinking that, Qin Shou felt as nauseous as if he had swallowed a fly.

Damn, marrying anyone is bad, how could she marry that Junior Police Officer?

To verify his suspicion, Qin Shou decided to stay for now, waiting for Lin Qingyan to emerge to see where she goes.

He lifted his gaze to the Da Litang inside the building, unable not to envy those who could dance Social Dance there.

Dancing is the best outlet in this emotionally repressed era.

Young people often organize Underground Dance Hall, usually choosing a home as the venue, provided the parents are away.

They call over a group of young friends, draw the curtains, turn on the recorder, and as their youthful bodies touch, they sway to the music, the scene always exuding a tense, forbidden thrill.

In contrast, the dance hall inside the Da Litang feels much more relaxed.

Hearing Lin Qingyan's slightly pleading tone mixed with a hint of coquettishness, Lu Cheng turned his head: "Dance or not, if you don't, I'm leaving."

Those callous words made the other few people furious.

"What kind of person is that, not gentlemanly at all."

"Exactly, the girl already lowered herself, and he still talks like that—damn, people like him don't deserve to attend the dance."

"If she talks to me that way, I'd give her my heart."

But what made them even angrier was Lin Qingyan pursing her lips and saying simply, "Dance."

The few, upon hearing that, had no more play, simply gritted their teeth at Lu Cheng.

Their supposedly gentlemanly behavior couldn't get an invitation, yet Lu Cheng's aloofness somehow earned him an invitation.

On the dance floor, Lu Cheng stood with good posture, extending his right hand to the right, his left hand on Lin Qingyan's slender waist, feeling warm body heat through his palm.

That waist is really thin, and Lu Cheng's large palm worries he might crush it if he squeezes too hard.

Lin Qingyan likewise extended her right hand into Lu Cheng's palm, while her left hand lightly rested beneath his left shoulder blade.

The two kept a fifteen-centimeter distance, looking at the nearby delicate girl; Lu Cheng's long‑sealed heart unintentionally quickened a few beats.

Today's Lin Qingyan in a white dress was extremely captivating.

Although on previous nights Lin Qingyan had changed into a white dress and danced a few times, Lu Cheng only watched seated; never before had they danced hand‑in‑hand like today.

Unlike before, tonight the white dress Lin Qingyan wore, under the colored glass lights, turned into a multicolored gown, its hem fluttering with each step like a dancing butterfly.

"How about it, I'm decent at dancing, right?"

To the gentle music, Lu Cheng's steady steps guided Lin Qingyan.

"Mm, it's fine, just a hint of alcohol on you."

Hearing that, Lu Cheng deliberately pulled Lin Qingyan into his arms, startling her with a "Ya!" that threw her steps off rhythm.

"What are you doing?"

"You said you disliked my alcohol scent, yet yours is quite fragrant, perfect to balance it."

Lin Qingyan gave him a cold stare: "You don't need to be this close; I can't move."

Yet Lu Cheng kept a tight grip on her waist, and Lin Qingyan clearly felt his body heat, causing her heart to race.

She stopped struggling, gently resting her head on Lu Cheng's shoulder, following his rhythm.

Through the palm contact, Lu Cheng noticed, "Why is my palm sweating? Nervous?"

Lin Qingyan quickly pulled away: "I—I'm fine..."

"By the way, where's my sister?" Lu Cheng recalled that his sister Lu Ying had come with Lin Qingyan.

"Oh, Ying Ying is dancing over there."

Following his gaze, he finally spotted his sister's figure and couldn't help but smile.

"Heh, she sure knows how to find a dance partner, even a foreigner; when I get home I'll tell dad to break her leg."

"Ah, don't mention it—it's just a dance." Lin Qingyan, while lightly moving her steps, added: "If you ever see that Qin Shou again, be sure not to get into a fight with him."

Lu Cheng lowered his head slightly and asked, "What? Are you scared I'd beat him up, feeling sorry for him?"

Lin Qingyan looked annoyed: "Who feels sorry for him? I'm doing this for you. You're a police officer, sure, but you're only a Railway police officer; he's a Police Substation officer, and it would be troublesome if he got his hands on you…"

Seeing Lin Qingyan's hurried explanation, Lu Cheng smiled: "I know, I'm teasing you! But even if that's the case, I'm not afraid of him; if he dares to trouble anyone near me, I'll deal with him."

Knowing Lu Cheng's temperament, Lin Qingyan, ever bold, said: "But you're like jade, you shouldn't clash with a tile; it's unnecessary."

"Jade?" Lu Cheng found the metaphor amusing: "Then you should know that, in others' eyes, I'm the rotten tile."

Lin Qingyan didn't accept his words: "What others say is theirs; in my eyes, you're jade—a fine piece to be carved."

Lu Cheng said nothing further, and Lin Qingyan fell silent as the music continued to linger.

The dance floor was crowded, and Lu Cheng guided her slowly toward the center; by the time Lin Qingyan caught up, she had become the entire floor's focus.

Fortunately the two have decent dancing skill; otherwise I really wouldn't dare to jump in the middle.

"Lu Cheng, can my dad really return by the end of the year?"
