Chapter 363: Talking About Gathering Votes
The three of them all knew that Lu Cheng wanted to run for president, and as a good dorm buddy, they naturally gave him strong support.
But Li Youfu suddenly said, "You eat tonight, I'm not staying in the dorm any longer."
After speaking, Li Youfu lowered his head and walked toward the classroom.
Seeing his mood off, Lu Cheng asked puzzled, "Boss, what's going on?"
Zheng Guoping shook his head slightly: "Sigh, don't bring it up. Yesterday after school you went home, and then his country wife came to the school."
Lu Cheng was unperturbed: "Family coming to see him, that's a good thing, right?"
In the class, there were three other people like Li Youfu who had been married.
Usually the young guys in the class liked to chat with these four people.
The talk, of course, wasn't about studies but about matters of men and women, because these four were married and had experience.
That night back in the dorm, Li Youfu was constantly pestering Zheng Guoping for discussion, and each time Zheng Guoping's words made him feel unbearably hot.
So Lu Cheng had reason to suspect that Zheng Guoping's quick breakups were probably because this guy was trying to stir something up with the women.
But girls these days are very conservative; even letting you hold hands is a win, so Zheng Guoping, seeing he couldn't get his way, quickly moved on to the next.
And Li Youfu's wife came yesterday, surely staying at the Guesthouse; a cramped Li Youfu should be happy about that.
But Zheng Guoping said, "What a good thing? His wife came with a child. Boss had no idea, and when she arrived at the school, she caught Boss red‑handed cheating, and they started fighting. Didn't you see the red marks on Boss's face…?"
Lu Cheng really hadn't noticed earlier, because Li Youfu kept his head down while walking.
"Wait… you just said Boss was cheating? Who did he cheat with?"
"It was a junior girl from the Hydraulic Engineering Department. At the time Boss was strolling with her in the woods, and they even held hands. Good grief, you didn't see it. Boss's wife was especially fierce, leapt up, grabbed Boss's hair and started beating him."
Zheng Guoping laughed out loud, "Originally his wife came to give Boss a surprise, but it ended up being a scare. I'm dying laughing."
Lu Cheng frowned, "No, no, when did Boss get involved with that girl? How did I miss this?"
Zheng Guoping stopped laughing: "You obviously didn't know; you spend little time at school. Even Siyan and I only learned about it a few days ago."
Mainly we noticed Boss suddenly started brushing his teeth; you know he never brushed before, and after our repeated questioning he finally admitted it.
We heard Boss say that the girl came from a very good family; her father is a Section Chief.
Lu Cheng was even more puzzled; he hadn't expected the usually honest Li Youfu to be flirting with the girl.
"No, you said the girl has great conditions; why would she pick Boss?"
Lu Cheng was perplexed; the girls who get into this university are all proud and haughty. Li Youfu is thirty, a country boy, and is usually the butt of jokes.
So Lu Cheng really couldn't figure it out.
Zheng Guoping was also baffled: "Who knows? But I asked Boss, and he said the girl especially liked talking to him about farming, and she especially admired how many crops he knew. It was like a Turtle looking at mung beans, and somehow they clicked."
Lu Cheng shook his head speechlessly; strange things happen in the world, and today he saw one with his own eyes.
A girl from a good family actually fell for a farmer, and the key is that Li Youfu already has children.
As for Li Youfu, clearly a married man, yet he still accepted the girl's affection, which is easy to understand.
Think about it: a farmer, whose daily life is facing the yellow earth, suddenly goes to a big city, enters university, sees so many young, educated, pretty faces; saying he wasn't moved would be a lie.
The only thing he can't figure out is why the girl chose Li Youfu.
Unfortunately, Li Youfu should have been enjoying his romantic campus life, but his wife suddenly caught him red‑handed.
That night Lu Cheng brought several aluminum lunchboxes and returned to the dorm from the Cafeteria.
From a package Zheng Guoping had mailed from home, he took out a bottle of De Shan Da Qu.
The dorm was filled with the aroma of fried ribbon fish and braised pork, and Zheng Guoping inhaled deeply.
"Third, you're being extravagant again. Usually we always piggyback on your meals, which feels a bit unfair. You cooked so many meat dishes; two vegetable dishes would have been enough."
Zheng Guoping and Wei Shu both come from average families; fortunately the school provides subsidies, so they rarely go hungry.
But when they occasionally upgrade the meals to satisfy cravings, it's always Lu Cheng who pays. Feeling guilty, Zheng Guoping had his family send a bottle of white liquor as thanks for Lu Cheng's care over the past two years.
Lu Cheng opened the lunchboxes one by one: "Stop the chatter, I have a job, unlike you guys. Lao Si, come eat, stop reading."
Wei Shu is the type who, whenever he has a moment, clutches a book; no matter which corner of the school you meet him—in the hallway, the restroom, the Cafeteria—you always see him with a book.
"Here I am," Wei Shu said, flipping off the bed, sitting on a stool, and spreading the book across his lap.
Zheng Guoping was already used to it; even if you handed Wei Shu a stone now, he would still glance at it without looking and take a bite.
Wei Shu doesn't drink or smoke, and Boss is absent, so Zheng Guoping took out two enamel jars, split a bottle of white liquor evenly, and poured it out.
"Come, Third, have a taste of our wine; it's our way of thanking you for your usual care."
Lu Cheng smiled, took a sip, and smacked his lips: "Mmm, a strong aromatic type, full‑bodied, good liquor."
"If you like it, that's fine. When the New Year holiday comes and we go home, I'll bring you two bottles from home at the start of the next term."
They're all good buddies, so Lu Cheng didn't hold back.
"By the way, Second, I'm preparing to run for president this time; what do you think?"
Zheng Guoping set the enamel jar down: "How could we not? Of course we support you. Right, Siyan?"
Wei Shu nodded: "Yes."
Lu Cheng took a bite of his dish: "You can't just give verbal support; you need to find ways to pull votes for me. Right now the seniors are eyeing the position, and the school seems to favor a senior as president."
Zheng Guoping, while drinking, thought for a moment: "School backing doesn't matter; this is a popular election. In our sophomore departments, you're especially good at uniting people. Just say the word, and everyone will back you."
Now only the freshmen are left; see how we can win more votes. I, Lao Si, and Boss have discussed it. With five days until the election, during these five days the three of us will rally a few classmates from work and go to the freshmen side to campaign and pull more votes.
Lu Cheng usually spends money lavishly, mainly to help classmates; the salary he receives has never been sent home, and his mother often scolds him for being wasteful.
But now, the results are showing.
Not only his dorm mates strongly support him, but the entire sophomore department also backs him.
As for the final outcome, we'll have to wait and see, since the senior candidates also have high support rates.
