Chapter 549: Changing Attitude
Just as Lu Cheng was happy about starting a new life with Lin Qingyan, a photo suddenly appeared before his eyes.
Lu Cheng didn't mind, set the photo aside: "Mom, I really don't know about this, but even if they're Qing Yan's children, you don't need to make such a fuss."
Chen Xianglan took the photo again: "You say you don't know, then how do you explain this photo? Why do these two children look so much like you did when you were a child."
Lu Cheng glanced at it and indeed saw some resemblance, but the children's features hadn't fully developed, so they're all roughly the same.
It turned out Li Mama was suspecting this, and Lu Cheng was instantly both exasperated and amused.
"I tell you, Mom, you're just making baseless connections. After I divorced Qing Yan, we never met again, so how could we have children!"
"But…"
Lu Cheng helped Li Mama onto a bench: "I know you want me to marry soon and have grandchildren, but no matter how urgent it is, you can't force other people's children onto me."
That meant she was so obsessed with grandchildren she was acting irrationally, and Chen Xianglan immediately grew a bit irritated.
Lu Cheng pressed Li Mama down again: "Fine, even if they look like me as a child, what does that prove? At most it shows Qing Yan can't let go of me and still thinks of me."
And then, she found a man who resembles me—yeah, a man with features as handsome as mine is hard to find, but we have hundreds of millions of people, so eventually we can find one.
So the children look a bit like me; that explains everything, right…'
Chen Xianglan glared: "Can you stop being so self‑absorbed? Sit down, Mom needs to ask clearly— you and Qing Yan…"
"I have no relationship with Qing Yan now, so stop overthinking, ah, I'm really tired, I'll go over there to sleep…"
Fearing Li Mama would keep nagging about this, Lu Cheng said that while walking toward the courtyard, grabbed his bicycle, and hurried to the front yard.
"Hey, I haven't finished…" Chen Xianglan sighed: "What on earth is going on?"
Lu Beitang grabbed the belt on the table and wrapped it around his waist: "I think you're just overthinking. Just now Lu Cheng clearly didn't know anything about this; these two children are definitely not related to him."
Besides, the kids themselves said their father is a pilot; if we tried to claim kinship just based on a photo, it'd be a laughingstock. Let's go to sleep, this whole pointless hassle."
"How am I the one causing pointless hassle? I'm just trying to get clarification…"
Chen Xianglan said something else and looked again at the photo in her hand.
"The resemblance is indeed there, but how could it be so exact?"
…
Yu'er Hutong Siheyuan.
Lu Cheng opened the gate, lifted the two children out of the car, and couldn't help examining them closely.
He didn't think they resembled him at all, but after realizing they were Lin Qingyan's children, a close look showed the two kids indeed bore a few traces of Lin Qingyan.
"Uncle… I didn't drink water today, so I won't wet the bed…"
Lu Cheng snapped back to his senses and tugged the little girl's twin braids.
"It's fine, drink if you want, and just sleep in that room tonight."
Anyway, the side room is Lin Qingyan's bedroom, so even if they wet the bed again, it's Lin Qingyan's own child who did it.
Lu Cheng's sudden change of attitude left the two children a bit bewildered.
"Uncle, what's up with you today?"
The little boy shook his head: "I don't know either."
Lu Cheng dragged the bicycle inside, glanced back: "What are you two muttering about? Come in quickly; later I'll boil water to wash your feet."
These are Lin Qingyan's children, so Lu Cheng had to take good care of them; when washing feet he personally scrubbed them, which left the two kids a bit stunned by the pampering.
"At home, does Mom also wash you like this?"
The little girl said in a baby voice: "Sometimes, yes…"
"Sometimes, yes? Then who usually washes you?"
"Hmm? Mom's busy, Grandma washes, Li Mama washes…"
Lu Cheng nodded, while scrubbing the two kids' little feet, he instructed: "From now on you must never sneak onto trains again; Mom will worry a lot. If you encounter bad people, they'll take you to the mountain ravine and you'll never see Mom again."
"Okay, Uncle, we'll remember."
Lu Cheng straightened his back, looking at the two children under the light, feeling a bit dazed.
How could he meet Lin Qingyan's children, the key being that they moved into the former Lin family's Siheyuan—truly marvelous.
He took a towel, wiped the two kids' feet, and then lifted them onto the bed.
The little girl then asked: "Uncle, where do you sleep?"
Lu Cheng glanced at the mattress; the spot where he wet the bed this morning had already been replaced with a new one.
"Aren't you both scared? Uncle shares a room with you; you sleep on this side, I'll sleep on that side."
Watching the two kids happily hop around on the bed, Lu Cheng thought it wouldn't be long before the Lin family came over.
First the child was lost, then taken to the Capital City; Lin Qingyan, worried, will surely come over too.
He tucked the blankets for the two kids; the little girl only showed her small head: "Uncle, you're so kind. When Mom comes, she'll give you money."
Lu Cheng smiled; he hadn't expected the child to remember.
"No need to give it, Uncle was just kidding with you."
"Uncle, what's a joke?"
"Um… a joke is…"
Lu Cheng thought about how to explain, but in the children's world, it seemed there was no such thing as a joke.
"Go to sleep quickly, it's late." Lu Cheng lay on that side, since he rarely stayed here and there was no coal stove.
"If you two are cold, come lean against my leg…" Lu Cheng said, hands behind his head, staring at the ceiling.
"Uncle, can you tell a story? At home, Mom always tells us…"
"Sure, Uncle will tell you a… story about the Gray Wolf and the Little White Rabbit."
"Mm‑mm, okay."
"In a beautiful great forest lived a Gray Wolf and two Little White Rabbits…"
Lu Cheng's voice was very soft, and in this quiet Separate Courtyard it sounded especially clear; not long after, the snores of two children came.
Later that night, Lu Cheng got up and called the half‑asleep little girl to go pee.
After carrying them to the bed, Lu Cheng stood there watching the two sleeping children, remembered his mother's words, and couldn't help touching his own face.
Two years old? If you push the timeline back, it would be around the time Lin Qingyan was pregnant, roughly during the divorce period.
Lu Cheng couldn't help but inhale sharply, and in his mind he recalled that when Zhao Bin got married and he got drunk, it was Lin Qingyan who escorted him home…
He still remembered waking up the next day after having a lingering, spring‑bright, enchanting dream.
Lu Cheng thought of this, and his mind became a mess.
Impossible, it's absolutely impossible.
Lu Cheng still leans toward the idea that after the divorce, Lin Qingyan quickly found someone else and got married.
After all, given Lin Zhenfeng's status, even if the daughter is divorced, many still want to ally with the Lin Family.
Soon Lu Cheng pushed the chaotic thoughts from his mind aside; there was no need to overthink. When the Lin Family comes to pick up the children, just ask and everything will be clear.
The next morning at dawn, Lu Cheng had breakfast with the two children, then delivered them to the sister at the department store.
He, however, rode his bicycle to Professor Yang's house; it's been two days since he got home, and he still hasn't seen Yang Yin.
