Chapter 573: Taking the Children on an Adventure
Soon, after finishing the cleaning, Lin Qingyan put on her coat, and her slender figure was wrapped up.
Lu Cheng changed his clothes, gestured, and said, "Let's have breakfast together."
Lin Qingyan stood there, dignified, and replied, "No need, I've already eaten; the two children haven't eaten much."
"Then I'll take the two of them to eat a bit more."
"Alright, I'll go back to my post first; in the afternoon I'll come to pick them up."
Lin Qingyan squatted down, pulling the two children to her side, and said, "Listen to uncle, no mischief allowed."
The two children nodded simultaneously; Jing Yao nodded the hardest, snapping down forcefully.
Lin Qingyan tapped her little nose and said, "You're the naughtiest, not a girl at all."
After fixing the children's clothes, Lin Qingyan whispered something into their ears.
Only when the two children nodded earnestly did Lin Qingyan stand and look at Lu Cheng, "Then I'm counting on you today."
"No problem, you go ahead with your work."
After Lin Qingyan left, Lu Cheng finally looked at the two children, who stared straight at him.
"Why do you two cling to me all the time, making me feel like your father."
The little girl Jing Yao blinked her big eyes and said, "Slide car…"
Lu Cheng felt helpless, wondering how she still remembered, but in the Northeast weather, ice surfaces are everywhere.
Holding the two children, he went downstairs; Sister Chen, who was lying on the counter, looked incredibly curious.
"Lu Jingzhang, good morning, did the kids sleep well last night?"
Lu Cheng set the two children down and said, "Of course not, you stayed up all night, you didn't go upstairs, and I lost a night of sleep."
Sister Chen chuckled, her eyes simultaneously on the two kids.
Yesterday Lu Cheng said someone would come to the Guesthouse looking for him; he expected a railway official, but didn't expect a woman with two children.
"Lu Jingzhang, who is this?" Sister Chen gestured at the two children, "Don't tell me they're yours."
Lu Cheng smoothed his clothes and said, "Why can't they be mine?"
Chen sister shook her head, pursed her lips and said, "It seems you don't have that ability, to have a pair of Dragon-Phoenix Twins in one lifetime."
"I know it, this woman gave birth to a boy and a girl; it's not about our women's wombs at all, it's entirely about how your men's seed is; yours looks bad."
Lu Cheng was speechless; if this woman turned yellow, it would truly be no man's business.
"Alright, Sister Chen, I surrender, I can't argue with you."
Lu Cheng laughed as he carried the children away, and Sister Chen waved from behind, "Hey, you still haven't said whose children these are; who is the girl?"
Sister Chen was so gossipy; if she didn't clarify, who knows how the story would spread.
"A friend's," Lu Cheng waved his hand, leading the two children out of the Guesthouse.
Next to it was the Railway Bureau; he fetched a few planks and made two simple ice sleds.
Then they went to a nearby creek, where the water had long been frozen solid, so even a truck could drive on it without issue.
Along the river, other nearby children were skating on the ice with their feet, each bundled up like a rice dumpling.
Standing on the riverbank, Lu Cheng began handing out the ice sleds: "Are you called Yao Yao?"
"Mm."
"This one is for you."
Lu Cheng then looked at the little boy: "You're the older brother, called Hanghang?"
"Yes, uncle."
"Mm, this one is for you."
Fortunately they're Dragon-Phoenix Twins; otherwise two girls or two boys would be hard to tell apart.
"Let's go play," Lu Cheng clapped his hands, pulled out a pack of cigarettes, and lit one.
"Uncle, you come play too, I can't push."
Lu Cheng gestured with the cigarette in his hand: "After uncle finishes smoking, let the older brother push you first."
Jing Yao turned her head and said, "Guoguo, you push me."
Jing Hang was sensible and caring toward his sister; hearing her request, he immediately set down his ice sled, bent over, and pushed his sister.
Lu Cheng squatted there watching, recalling Lin Qingyan's words to the children before she left.
"By the way, what did your mother just tell you two?"
The little boy Jing Hang stopped pushing, and his sister Jing Yao answered.
"Mother said, Guoguo and I went out to find uncle, we can't let Grandma know…"
Lu Cheng's smoking action paused, realizing that Lin Qingyan had taken the children behind her mother and brought them over.
But it was understandable; Yu Wanrong despised him so much, didn't want any entanglement with his daughter, so naturally wouldn't agree to let her give the children to him.
Still, it was unclear why Lin Qingyan did this; saying it was because she was busy and the children had no one to watch them doesn't make sense at all.
Even if the Lin Family were busy, there was still a nanny, Li Mama.
But if it were because the children lacked fatherly love, any close male relative could be found; there was no need to risk Yu Wanrong discovering and bring the children to him.
Unable to figure it out, Lu Cheng stopped caring; amid Jing Yao's shouts, he tossed the cigarette butt and stepped onto the ice.
"Uncle, come quickly, come quickly, Guoguo is pushing too slowly…"
Older brother Jing Hang was very steady, fearing to drop his sister, pushing cautiously, but Jing Yao was dissatisfied.
Lu Cheng brushed his sleeve and said, "Sit tight; if you fall, no whining."
He really underestimated the girl; Lu Cheng's push sent the sled almost flying, carrying the little girl ten meters away.
But here the ice wasn't as wide as a rink; the riverbanks were narrow, and the little girl, losing control, shouted and rushed toward the bank.
The ice was too slick; Lu Cheng tried to run and stop her but was too late, and the girl toppled over with the sled.
Little sister…
Lu Cheng hurried over, helped the little girl up; the girl's cheek had a bloodied cut from a nearby branch.
Lu Cheng covered his face, "Ah, this child is a sight to see."
"Are you okay, Yao Yao? Does it hurt? Uncle didn't do it on purpose. When you go back, just say you fell yourself; it has nothing to do with Uncle."
"It doesn't hurt, it doesn't hurt, I still want to play…"
Lu Cheng was speechless; this child really has a big heart—falling so badly yet neither crying nor making a fuss.
"Hanghang, do you want to try it once."
Jing Hang quickly shook his head, and Lu Cheng set his face sternly: "You can't do it like that, you're not as brave as the little sister yet. Come, Uncle will push you this time."
The little boy resisted, but under Lu Cheng's insistence, Jing Hang gradually got used to the high speed.
Lu Cheng was pleased; boys should play adventurous games more.
He played with the kids all day, until the unique Sai Bei waning sun of the northeast reflected on the ice, scattering multicolored light; Lu Cheng thought about how Lin Qingyan hadn't yet come to pick up the children.
Then he thought perhaps Lin Qingyan didn't know this place and was probably waiting at the Guesthouse.
So Lu Cheng called the two kids away; the day was freezing, and if he weren't watching the kids, staying in the Guesthouse's heating room would be so comfortable.
But when he returned to the Guesthouse and asked Big Sister Chen, Lin Qingyan hadn't even come.
There was nothing he could do but first take the two kids to a room; the sky gradually darkened, and the two children had already fallen asleep.
