Chapter 6: The One Who Beats the Street Office
"Lu Cheng, don't cause trouble," Lu Ying called out.
"You don't mind me, sister; today I'm going to give them a proper lesson."
When Lu Cheng walked over, Zhong Qingbao grew angrier and shouted at Lu Cheng, pointing at his nose.
"Which Street Office are you from? Are you lawless now? How dare you lecture us?"
Lu Cheng, with a calm face, said: "Which Street Office I'm from, you have no right to ask. I want to ask you, Comrade Lin Qingyan who lives here, what law has she broken?"
Zhong Qingbao was stunned for a moment: "She hasn't broken any law."
"Ha! No law? Then why do you guard her like a prisoner, watching her day after day and forbidding her to leave?"
"I… her father broke the law, and she still won't admit it. If she doesn't actively draw a clear line, she can't go out freely."
"Absurd!"
Lu Cheng grabbed the man's collar: "Lin Qingyan's grandfather was a founding hero; the predecessors shed blood and sacrificed countless talents to bring about today."
"You, however, sit on the perks, and now you even bully the granddaughter of an old martyr. Can you live up to the sacrifices of our predecessors?"
Zhong Qingbao snorted coldly: "You don't need to tell me that; one code to one code."
Lu Cheng nodded: "Fine, you say one code to one code. Her father broke the law, go find her father."
"Now she's a lawful citizen; if I ever see you monitoring her again, I'll beat you up."
Zhong Qingbao laughed in anger: "How dare you hit someone from the Street Office?"
"These days, the Street Offices in the Capital City are very powerful; their directors are at the chief division level, equivalent to a later‑stage County Party Committee Secretary."
"I'm from the Street Office; if you want to hit me, try it. I stick my face out here—do you dare to hit me?"
"Bang!"
Lu Cheng immediately gave him a big slap.
Lin Qingyan ran out of the courtyard, anxiously saying: "Lu Cheng, no fighting, go back quickly."
"It's fine, Qing Yanjie, don't worry; today I must win justice for you."
As soon as the words fell, the five members of the Street Office, seeing one of their own beaten, swarmed around.
Within thirty seconds, Lu Cheng had knocked them all down.
While a few lay on the ground wailing, they were shocked that this young comrade actually possessed martial skill.
The five of them, somehow never getting close to Lu Cheng's body, fell to the ground.
"You—how dare you hit us? You've gotten yourself into trouble, big trouble."
"Go, call the Security Department and take this kid away."
One person got up and ran toward the nearest State‑owned Factory; these days, the Security Department always carries guns.
Lin Qingyan, worried, pushed him: "Lu Cheng, run quickly; when the Security Department arrives, they'll take you away. Ying Ying, hurry and take him away."
Lu Ying also pulled him, but Lu Cheng was determined to resolve the matter directly and stubbornly stayed put.
However, a young comrade from the Security Department ran over quickly, making it impossible to leave now.
Zhong Qingbao instantly gained confidence: "Xiao Liu, you're just in time; this bastard hit someone from our Street Office, you take him away."
The comrade called Xiao Liu, with a stern face, said: "The person you hit? Or the Street Office you hit? Come with me."
As Xiao Liu spoke, he patted the gun sling at his waist.
The meaning was clear: don't offer futile resistance.
"Yo, still carrying a gun! Do you really think I'm scared?"
Lu Cheng also pulled a recruitment notice from his pocket and waved it in front of Xiao Liu.
"Look closely, I'm a Train Police officer of the Railway Bureau. They break the law, using their authority to detain people, so I have the right to beat them. If I don't turn them over to our Railway Public Security Bureau, that's already a favor."
Hearing that it was the Railway Ministry, Xiao Liu gave it a serious look and immediately raised a question.
"This is just a recruitment notice; you haven't reported for duty yet, so you're not an official Train Police."
Lu Cheng was choked for a moment; indeed, he is not yet a Train Police officer of the Railway Bureau.
But he knows that at any time, he must not lose the momentum and be outmatched.
"So what? Even as an ordinary citizen, I have a duty to serve the people, unlike you who are aiding tyranny here. Believe it or not, I'll drag you together to the Railway Public Security Bureau and we can reason there."
Hearing that they'd be taken to the Railway Public Security Bureau, Xiao Liu felt a bit intimidated.
Although Lu Cheng hasn't officially reported yet, that recruitment notice isn't fake; after all, he's considered a Railway Ministry person.
The Railway Ministry is a self‑contained entity; it's a place that protects its own, and traditionally any internal matters are resolved internally, with other units having no authority.
Moreover, hearing this articulate young comrade Lu Cheng, if it really got to the Railway Public Security Bureau, he wouldn't have any say.
He's a Security Department staff member of a State‑owned Factory, not under the Street Office's jurisdiction, so there's no need to wade into this mess.
"I… I still have patrol duties at my factory, I'll leave first."
Xiao Liu bolted away, leaving the Street Office members with bruised faces, shouting for him to come back.
But Xiao Liu pretended not to hear.
Lu Cheng walked over and gave Zhong Qingbao a kick: "Your Street Office Director Zhang, I know him; tell him the one who hit you is me, Lu San'er. See if he dares to cause me trouble."
Seeing the few people staring blankly, Lu Cheng stepped forward: "Hurry up and get out, or you'll get another beating."
The few recovered, helped each other, and hurried out of the Hu Tong.
The usually swaggering Street Office left in a disgraceful retreat?
Lin Qingyan was a bit surprised, but soon felt at ease.
Lu Cheng, that foolish boy, has liked fighting since childhood, always getting bruises.
Later, after becoming a disciple of Xu Erye, he learned a full set of fist and foot techniques, becoming someone others would bruise.
Lin Qingyan's grandfather, back then, was close acquaintances with Xu Erye.
"Lu Cheng, when you see Xu Erye, give my regards; I won't see him now, but when I get to Beidahuang, I'll write him a letter to report my safety."
Lu Cheng pats his clothes, steps forward: "Hah, my Master is illiterate; how could he read a letter? Just tell me whatever you want to say, and I'll pass it on…"
Lin Qingyan leans her upper body back, because Lu Cheng's ear is almost pressed to her lips.
Quickly, Lu Cheng's butt received a kick—it was Lu Ying's.
His interrupted business makes Lu Cheng very angry.
"Comrade Lu Ying, I warn you, the butt you're kicking belongs to a Public Security comrade; Public Security serves the people, so you're kicking the face of the masses."
"You must be denounced, be overthrown, and undergo education…"
"Even if you're poor, even if you're poor!" Lu Ying keeps striking her brother's head.
"I'll make you even poorer! Hurry home, you bother everyone every day."
Watching the brother and sister's scuffle, Lin Qingyan smiles faintly.
"Qing Yanjie, I'm leaving now; I'll come back to see you." Lu Cheng jumps onto a bicycle.
Lin Qingyan waves, feeling she may not see Lu Cheng again; after this departure she doesn't know when she'll return.
Watching his figure recede, Lin Qingyan can't help but sigh; this fellow has truly grown into a big kid.
Today, he even protected her.
Why does a sudden feeling of peace arise?
Perhaps because her family suffered misfortune, beneath her strong exterior her heart also longs to be protected.
