Chapter 63: The Senior Leader Comes to Visit
Capital City Railway Hospital.
Lu Cheng said to the doctor who was examining his foot injury, "Doctor, could you please put a plaster cast on me?"
The doctor raised his eyes and said, "No need. I've examined you; it's just a sprained ligament. Go home and rest a few days and it will heal on its own."
Lu Cheng lifted his foot and said, "No, I feel like the bone is cracked."
"Bone cracked?" The doctor, not daring to be careless, examined him again carefully.
"I feel fine when I touch it."
"But it does hurt badly. My own body knows its condition. You should still put a plaster cast on me; if this turns into a disability, that would be bad. Captain Lei specifically instructed…"
Lei Zhan'ge escorted him to the hospital, intending to accompany him upstairs, but Lu Cheng, citing that he should be focusing on the enemy special forces, did not let Lei Zhan'ge accompany him.
However, Lei Zhan'ge specifically instructed that he must take good care of Comrade Xiao Lu; he is our hero, and any of his needs must be met.
When the doctor heard Lu Cheng mention Captain Lei, he hesitated briefly but still complied with his request.
Thus, Lu Cheng lay on the hospital bed, his left foot bound in a plaster cast, suspended in midair.
The sheets underneath were probably not spread properly, a bit hard on his lower back, so no matter how he lay it was uncomfortable.
Looking at the adjacent bed, another patient lay there, injury unknown but quite severe, his whole body wrapped in white bandages, looking like a mummy.
An oxygen tube was inserted into his mouth; he wheezed and whined, unable to speak, as if he might die at any moment.
At that moment, a rather pretty young nurse entered, carrying an iron tray in one hand and an IV bag in the other.
Just as the nurse arrived, Lu Cheng thought of asking her to help remake the bedding, raised his hand to greet her.
The young nurse asked, "Hey, didn't Dr. Sun say someone has a fever and needs an IV? Where are the relatives? It's you who has a fever, right?"
Seeing Lu Cheng raise his hand, the nurse walked over and took it down, moving swiftly; she applied a tourniquet, tapped his arm twice, and then inserted the needle.
"Sss, Comrade?" Lu Cheng thought to say she had stuck the needle into the wrong person.
The nurse, however, wouldn't let him move; a hint of unmistakable nervousness in her eyes, she said, "Don't move yet, I'll secure you. Does it hurt?"
She placed his arm casually on her thigh; it felt quite warm. Lu Cheng shook his head, "No pain, not at all. Young lady, what's your surname?"
"Shen." Shen Xiaoyu stood up to adjust the IV bag, saying casually, "You can call me Nurse Shen from now on; if anything happens, have the relatives call me."
Lu Cheng sat up, "Nurse Shen must be new here, right? And I guess you haven't been a nurse long."
Shen Xiaoyu was startled, "Hm? How did you know? I've only been here two days."
"Ah, I work as Train Police; I have no other skills, but I'm a bit good at observing people through details."
With the young nurse's innocent, puzzled expression, Lu Cheng explained.
"First, your needle insertion hurts a lot. Although your movements look proficient, that's just a façade because you're afraid others will think you're a rookie.
New nurses all have this mindset; they'll even probe, 'Does it hurt?' to gather experience and improve next time."
The nurse was surprised; all the little mental moves she made just now were accurately called out.
"You're pretty impressive, no wonder you're Train Police. What's the second point?"
Shen Xiaoyu wanted to know more, so she could avoid showing it next time.
Lu Cheng lay back on the bed, "The second thing is, when an experienced nurse enters a ward, she usually confirms the patient's name; she doesn't just grab anyone and stick a needle."
Shen Xiaoyu looked bewildered, "What do you mean?"
Lu Cheng gestured toward the mummy beside them, "It means you stuck the needle into the wrong person; it should have been the big brother next to you who has a fever."
"Oh dear, why didn't you say so earlier? Seriously."
Shen Xiaoyu panicked, hurriedly withdrew the needle from Lu Cheng, and rushed to insert a needle into the big brother beside them.
Lu Cheng shook his head, "See, you made another mistake. You didn't change the needle before sticking it into someone else; if I had any contagious disease, you'd have transmitted it to them."
Shen Xiaoyu, frightened, stopped quickly; fortunately the needle hadn't gone in.
She was so panicked she was about to burst into tears, "Don't talk any more; the more you speak the messier it gets. It's all your fault; why are you raising your hand for no reason!"
Lu Cheng, feeling innocent, "I just wanted you to help remake the bedding; it's hurting my back badly."
Shen Xiaoyu rolled her eyes, "Then get up; I'll make the bed for you first. Afterwards, don't talk again."
As long as no one disturbs her, she can take her time with the steps; she must not make a mistake.
Lu Cheng got up and plopped onto the neighboring bed; Shen Xiaoyu straightened his bedding again.
At that moment, MummyBigBrother suddenly began to convulse all over.
Lu Cheng glanced, "Nurse Shen, how did this big brother get injured so severely?"
Shen Xiaoyu, while tucking her butt, replied casually, "Looks like he fell from a building; multiple fractures all over."
Lu Cheng turned his head, comforting, "Big brother, it's okay. I also have a fracture; stay strong, we'll get through this together."
Lu Cheng raised his fist in encouragement, but the big brother became even more agitated.
He opened his mouth but couldn't speak, only exhaling heavily, the sound like a donkey's bray.
"Don't get worked up, big brother. We're men; this injury is nothing. As long as we have willpower in our hearts, no difficulty can defeat us."
His breathing grew even more rapid, seeming in great pain, his bandage‑wrapped arms struggling to grasp something.
"Nurse Shen, did this big brother's wife run off with someone? He's so agitated now."
Shen Xiaoyu finished making the bed, turned back to look, and instantly widened her eyes, "Oh dear, you're sitting on the oxygen tube!"
Lu Cheng hadn't processed it yet, and Shen Xiaoyu hurriedly pulled him away, "Get up quickly, get up quickly, you fool, you almost sat yourself to death."
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, big brother."
Lu Cheng hurriedly apologized to the big brother; Shen Xiaoyu was furious. She had only been here two days, and wasn't usually this clumsy.
She muttered that her right eyelid kept twitching today; must have encountered Disaster Star.
"The bed is ready; lie down quickly. From now on, no speaking, no moving."
The young nurse was still quite fierce; Lu Cheng didn't dare cause any more trouble, so he obediently lay down.
While Shen Xiaoyu was re‑injecting the big brother, a sound came from the hospital corridor.
Director Tang, this way, Comrade Lu Cheng is staying in this ward.
Hearing the voice, I looked and saw four people coming to the ward entrance; one of them, whom Shen Xiaoyu recognized, was Director Zhang of the Railway General Hospital.
"Director Zhang!" Shen Xiaoyu, still holding a needle in their hand, half‑rose and called out.
Director Zhang waved his hand: "Ah, you should get on with your own work; these three leaders are from the Department Committee, here to discuss something with Comrade Lu Cheng."
Shen Xiaoyu blinked; leaders from the Department Committee? Those are definitely high‑ranking leaders.
Who is Lu Cheng? It can't be that Disaster Star!
Did he commit some mistake? To have the three senior leaders from the Department Committee visit all of a sudden.
What a huge mistake that must be!
Immediately, nervous, the needle slipped to the wrong spot, and the pain made the big brother shudder again.
