Chapter 86: Give a Dismount Warning

~7 min read 1,348 words

At Beijing City Train Station, Lu Cheng walked side by side with his four team members, just like a mobile phone signal.

Zhao Jinzhu, standing 1.98 m tall, pushed the signal straight to full bars.

Passing through the waiting hall, they attracted many passengers' gazes, who pointed and chatted among themselves.

Chang Jinbu glanced and said, "Group Leader, they seem to be making jokes about us."

Lu Cheng inhaled, "They joke about you, not me. I'm a 1.80‑meter tall guy, but because of you four, my level is dragged down."

Chang Jinbu said, "Group Leader, aren't you 1.79 m?"

Lu Cheng retorted, "That's just like you, inflating the number to sound better."

…

The more Lu Cheng stared at these team members, the more choked his heart became; back in the day he was full of youthful vigor, and once his crisp uniform was on, countless young ladies and wives' eyes would linger on him.

Now, he's become a joke; anyone who looks over has to point and mutter a few words, and the Group Leader looks utterly unheroic.

At this moment, Chang Jinbu added, "Group Leader, I think what you just said was wrong?"

Lu Cheng looked down and said, "What's wrong? Look at each of you—when that uniform is on, it's either too tight or too short, especially you, whose pant legs can even cover the shoes."

"Group Leader, you should think the other way: even the most beautiful flower needs green leaves for contrast, and it's our few of us that highlight your mighty handsomeness."

Lu Cheng leaned back, "Huh, that makes sense!"

Not to mention, the other three were as silent as wood, while Chang Jinbu's mouth was sweet indeed.

Sure enough, the condensed part is the essence; Chang Jinbu is left with only a sharp mind.

After Chang Jinbu said that, Lu Cheng's posture instantly straightened; he asked a young girl if she needed help, told her to find a Train Police brother for any trouble, causing the girl's hair to flutter.

Passing the ticket check, they met several other squads; one of them, Lu Cheng recognized, was Jiang Yuanchao, who last time made him buy a supplemental ticket.

When they saw Lu Cheng's squad approaching, the several Group Leaders exchanged glances and all burst into laughter.

"You must be Group Leader Lu, right? I'm Deng Hairong, Group Leader of the First Group," Deng Hairong extended his hand, his eyes unable to hide his smile.

Lu Cheng shook his hand and asked, "Group Leader Deng, have you heard of my reputation?"

Deng Hairong couldn't help but laugh, "Of course, who in the Railway Department doesn't know your name, Lu Cheng? You earned a Third-Class Merit, got promoted directly, even advanced to Fourth Level; you're the top person in our Railway Department."

Lu Cheng thought the other was praising him, but Deng Hairong first praised then cut him down.

"But Captain Lei, these are the team members you arranged, some tall, some short; you can't even make a proper pair of chopsticks for a side dish."

Deng Hairong's words made the other Group Leaders burst into hearty laughter.

They were somewhat jealous of Lu Cheng, who had earned a Third-Class Merit, believing he was favored by Captain Lei and would soon rise rapidly, his future bright.

But when they saw Captain Lei had only assigned Lu Cheng a few clumsy, misshapen members, they stopped thinking that way.

Relying on these few dumb, clueless team members, it would be hard to achieve good scores in assessments or become a police chief.

Listening to their unabashed mocking, Lu Cheng's face grew grim.

They probably didn't know that three of his four team members are Children of Martyrs.

He can be the one to joke about his own team, but not let others joke about them?

"Heh, Group Leader Deng, I disagree with you. Chopsticks being long or short isn't unusual; long ones reach far, short ones are handy, unlike some people who look tidy but are just decorative sticks that only stay in place."

Deng Hairong choked, "You… you say who's decorative? Our group is full of top elite members."

"Yo, elite members?" Lu Cheng had to give them a down‑horse warning today, or else he didn't know how many eyes the horse deity has.

"Da Kui, lift these two up for me, let them see what a one‑person‑to‑two elite member looks like."

Niu Da Kui, receiving the order, stepped forward, "How high should I lift?"

"Lift them over my head."

Niu Da Kui, after receiving the command, grabbed the two's collars, raising each with one hand into the air.

"Hey, hey, what are you doing? Put me down!" Deng Hairong was terrified.

The other squad members were also surprised; they didn't expect Niu Da Kui to be so strong, easily lifting the two.

Lu Cheng issued another command, "Rotate how many times?"

Niu Da Kui asked, "How many turns?"

"Ten turns."

"One, two, three… nine, ten, Group Leader, I'm getting dizzy."

"What are you doing, Da Kui, put them down quickly," Ding Han Zhen, seeing the crowd gather, felt something was wrong and came over, not expecting this scene.

It was sheer nonsense, being laughed at by onlookers.

When Train Police arrived, the squads hurried to stand properly.

"Train Police, we were just playing," Deng Hairong didn't dare say more, after all he was the first to mock.

Ding Han Zhen frowned, "Playing around can't involve lifting people up; if you keep fooling around, First Group will dock you a point."

They're all young kids, half of whom are newly recruited apprentices; next year the Train Service Line will be expanded, and Captain Lei Zhan Ge intends to train them so they can be officially deployed.

Seeing their cowardice, Lu Cheng kept going, "Train Police, lifting people up was indeed my fault, but they mocked Revolutionary Comrades; as Group Leader I have a duty to protect my team."

Lu Cheng's words first admitted fault then reasoned, speaking with righteous justification.

Niu Da Kui stepped forward, "I'm the one who lifted them, not the Group Leader."

Lu Cheng glared, "You think you can speak out? Stand behind me; I'm the Group Leader, it's not your turn to take responsibility."

Niu Da Kui lowered his head.

Ding Han Zhen sighed; others may not know Niu Da Kui and the other two, but he certainly does.

These three kids are all hard‑luck children.

Ding Han Zhen, hands behind his back, scanned the members, "We are all Revolutionary Comrades, gathered for a common cause, must respect each other, unite, everyone is equal, no one stands a head above another."

"Since it's the first time, I won't pursue this today; if it happens again, any mocking of comrades will lead to immediate dissolution of that squad."

These three kids are closer to Captain Lei than his own family, and being Children of Martyrs, he also has a duty to protect them.

Directly canceling a group is even more severe than deducting points, and several groups immediately corrected their attitude.

Ding Han Zhen continued, "Alright, each group's Train Service Line has been assigned; apart from the other Fourth Groups going to other Train Service Lines, Group One and the Sixth Group go to the Jingguang Line."

Ding Han Zhen's arrangement had two purposes: first, the members of the Sixth Group, except for Lu Cheng, the other four truly lack the ability to serve on the train, and various emergencies can arise on the train, so relying only on Lu Cheng would be hard to handle.

So an extra group was allocated to the Jingguang Line.

Second, those two groups just had a dispute; after all, they are Comrades, so it's a good chance to interact more and maintain revolutionary sentiment.

When Deng Hairong heard that, they were overjoyed; now is the Small Group Assessment period, and Ding Han Zhen's arrangement is clearly giving them a chance.

Given Lu Cheng's and those people's abilities, how could they compare with his group?

"Ding Jingzhang, our Group One will resolutely carry out your arrangement."
