Chapter 65: It's You, Pei Nanli
Mingzhou No. 3 Middle School was already a key high school in Jiang Province ten years ago.
The plane trees at the school gate cast dancing shadows, with sunlight filtering through the branches to scatter fine specks of light on the ground.
While Grade 10 and Grade 11 were still in class, Xin Chanxi registered at the guardhouse and then heard a voice behind her calling out to stop her.
Sun Ying got out of a taxi, sitting in a wheelchair, and the person pushing the wheelchair behind her turned out to be Study Committee Member Xu Jin. Rumors in the school world claimed Sun Ying had a boyfriend, Chen Xin from another class who was studying art for painting.
Xin Chanxi had little curiosity to probe, so she simply greeted the two of them.
The three of them walked to the classroom in silence.
During high school, Xu Jin had once sent Xin Chanxi a note, which Xin Chanxi tore up right on the spot, causing Xu Jin to be afraid to look Xin Chanxi in the eye for the entire three years of high school.
After the college entrance exam, when they met again, Xu Jin looked a bit awkward on his face and broke the silence by asking, "Xiao, didn't you come over with Cai Yueming?"
"Why would I come over with Cai Yueming?"
"Aren't you and Cai Yueming from the same Donghu Manor?"
Xin Chanxi raised her eyes, finding it a bit funny; what kind of logic was this? "No, Xu Jin, don't you also live in Donghu Manor? Why didn't you come over with Cai Yueming?"
This Cai Yueming must be afraid I'll mention his humiliating story of kneeling, so he didn't dare to come.
"Xu Jin, why did you come over with Sun Ying?!"
As soon as the words fell, Xu Jin's face turned green then red, stammering.
Sun Ying smiled and said, "When I took a taxi over, I ran into Xu Jin on the road and gave him a ride along the way."
Actually, before the college entrance exam, Sun Ying had received a confession note from Xu Jin; Xu Jin's grades were in the top two in the class, and his family lived in Donghu Manor, so he was either rich or noble.
However, Xu Jin looked extremely ordinary, standing only 1.65 meters tall; in the past, Sun Ying would have rejected him outright.
But after the college entrance exam ended, Sun Ying realized that once leaving the protective umbrella of high school, everyone has to rely on their own parents and their own abilities to navigate society.
She needed to take advantage of her youth and beauty to find Xu Jin, which could smoothly lead to a class leap.
Sun Ying was still too hasty; she went to university, and there were opportunities within the university as well.
Before the three of them entered the classroom of Class 3, Grade 12 together, Xu Jin did not go in with Xin Chanxi and Sun Ying.
Instead, he stood outside for five minutes before going in and found that the classroom was not full.
He originally sat to the left of Xin Chanxi, but that seat had already been taken by Sun Ying, so he quietly sat behind Sun Ying.
"Xin Chanxi, I've missed you to death!"
As soon as a young girl's voice fell, the person had already plopped down on Xin Chanxi's right side.
"Hey, Sun Ying, what happened to your leg?"
Sun Ying smiled and said, "Chen Leyan, I accidentally got hurt by glass shards."
This slightly chubby young girl was Xin Chanxi's closest friend, Chen Leyan.
After the college entrance exam ended, Chen Leyan also ended her pre-exam weight-loss promise and let her stomach loose to eat delicious food for two days.
When Xin Chanxi learned that Chen Leyan had given up on losing weight, she joked, "Chen Leyan baby, if you don't control your appetite, you won't find a boyfriend!"
Chen Leyan immediately retorted, "Xin Chanxi, you are just a tiny bit prettier than me, considered the School Beauty of our Mingzhou No. 3 Middle School; do you have a boyfriend?"
'Chen Leyan, your best friend already has a boyfriend.' Sun Ying did not say this sentence because Xin Chanxi glanced at her, and she didn't want to offend this young lady.
Last night, when Cai Yueming asked her about Xin Chanxi's boyfriend, she answered that she didn't know.
Xin Chanxi and Chen Leyan started chatting enthusiastically; Sun Ying's relationship with these two was average, so she couldn't interject, but she still thought of a topic.
"Xin Chanxi, Chen Leyan, do you know why Class Monitor Guo Qiancheng didn't come?"
Chen Leyan heard this and immediately became interested, "Right, oh, I heard that Guo Qiancheng has no problem getting into Qingbei this college entrance exam."
Although Sun Ying's grades were poor, she had many friends in Grade 12 and was well-informed: "I heard that yesterday Guo Qiancheng's father was injured at a construction site and hospitalized, so he is taking care of him at the hospital and couldn't come."
Chen Leyan felt a tightness in her heart and said, "Then should we go to the hospital to visit him?"
"Yes, I'll go too." Sun Ying deliberately turned her head and added, "Study Committee Member Xu, do you want to go?"
Xu Jin quickly nodded his head.
"It's possible, but we need Guo Qiancheng's consent." Xin Chanxi knew that Class Monitor Guo Qiancheng had excellent grades, an average family background, a sensitive heart, and disliked others' charity.
"OK! I'll go ask Guo Qiancheng. By the way, since Guo Qiancheng is going to Qingbei, are you planning to apply to Jiangcheng University, or the university on your grandmother's side?"
Chen Leyan's question made Xin Chanxi silent for a moment, thinking in her heart about Wang Chuan, who would graduate next year; was he working at Mingzhou Hospital, or would he return to work at Jiangcheng Hospital?
She perfunctorily said, "I haven't thought it through yet; I need to go back and discuss it with my parents."
"As an Art Student, I definitely have to apply to Jiangcheng Music Conservatory. Why don't you both apply to a university in Jiangcheng? Then the three of us can still play together."
Sun Ying deliberately said this for Xu Jin in the back row to hear, hoping he would apply to Jiangcheng University, as his scores were definitely sufficient.
Chen Leyan usually had no interaction with Sun Ying, but today seeing her sit next to Xin Chanxi, she thought the two had become acquaintances, and the suggestion was quite good.
She also spoke up, "Xiao, if you go to Jiangcheng University, my scores definitely won't be enough; I'll apply to Jiangcheng Industry and Commerce University or Normal University then."
Xin Chanxi remained noncommittal.
Just then, the door to the Class 3, Grade 12 classroom was pushed open.
Homeroom Teacher Teacher Zhang Shuying walked in.
The classroom noise instantly turned into cheers, "Teacher Zhang, we love you, we love you!"
"I love you all too!" The homeroom teacher, over sixty years old, smiled kindly, looking at the students below, seeing some empty seats, looking at Xin Chanxi and others with smiles, and sighing inwardly.
"I am truly grateful to the students for coming today. After all, the moment the college entrance exam ended, the three years of day-and-night companionship between the teacher and you had already drawn to a close."
"Many, many words, the teacher has already said to you before the college entrance exam."
"But blessings are never too many; the teacher hopes that every single one of you will find your own wonderful stage in the vast world of the future. No matter where you go, the teacher will bless you all!"
Warm applause erupted below.
Suddenly, a voice came from the doorway, "Teacher Zhang, your students have come to see you."
More than a dozen young people surged in from the doorway, all with smiles on their faces.
Sun Ying whispered, "I heard they are graduates from the previous Grade 12."
"I know—they're the 2000 graduating class, and they were outstanding. Teacher Zhang poured so much heart into them, even fell ill for a year, and didn't start teaching us until 2001," Chen Leyan added.
Xin Chanxi said nothing, her gaze locking onto a tall, coldly elegant figure.
She wore a perfectly tailored beige dress, her flawless profile and high ponytail gleaming.
Like a white rose dusted with morning dew.
"Teacher Zhang!" The woman stepped forward and offered Teacher Zhang a large bouquet of carnations.
Teacher Zhang adjusted her glasses, her voice trembling with emotion: "It's you!"
She turned to the students below and introduced: "This is my former star student, Pei Nanli, who graduated from the Clinical Medicine Major at Jiangcheng University School of Medicine."
"I heard you're interning at Mingzhou First Hospital—won't you graduate next year?"
