Chapter 29: Offending the Chan Sect
Yuan Hong and the three monkeys walked out of the military camp, preparing to go into the world to do good deeds. Although the three monkeys had confidence in their own strength, who wouldn't want to increase their chances of survival?
In the blink of an eye, Yuan Hong had been out for three months and had done many good deeds. He planned to play for two more days before returning to the military camp. The three monkeys were playing in the mountains; although they were already "Great Immortals," they were still monkeys at heart and naturally possessed the playful nature of monkeys.
The three monkeys were swinging back and forth in the trees when they suddenly felt a powerful fluctuation of magic power ahead. Out of curiosity, the three monkeys went to take a look.
They saw three Chan Sect disciples surrounding and attacking a woman.
"Monster, you had better surrender; I will leave you an intact corpse," said the oldest one.
"Hmph, you hypocrites who pretend to be righteous, aren't you just coveting my Inner Pellet, which is why you ambushed me? Even if I die today, I won't let you succeed," the woman said firmly.
"Master, no need to waste words with this monster; let's see how much longer she can hold on," one of the disciples said.
The three Chan Sect disciples launched a new round of attacks, and it looked like the woman was about to be unable to hold on.
Suddenly, a loud shout came from the forest: "Stop!"
The three Chan Sect disciples saw three people walk out of the forest (Yuan Hong, Liuer, and Ma Hou were all transformed into human forms to walk among people) and said with a smile: "I am the Second Generation Disciple of the Chan Sect, Qingxu Daoren. I am currently dealing with a monster, and I hope you all will not interfere." This was clearly a warning: We are from the Chan Sect, so be careful and don't provoke us.
"I just want to ask, why do you want to kill her?" Yuan Hong said, pointing at the woman.
"Because she is a monster. We humans are the protagonists of heaven and earth; it is only natural to kill a monster when we see one. Does that need any reason?" Qingxu Daoren said as if it were a matter of course.
"But the Jie Sect has many Demon Clan disciples; what about that?" Liuer asked.
"That is because the Tongtian Shengren sympathizes with the Demon Clan and only reluctantly accepts them as disciples. The Demon Clan should be slaughtered," Qingxu said arrogantly.
This made Yuan Hong and the three monkeys furious. Yuan Hong said gloomily: "Is that so? You want to slaughter every monster you see? Then take a look at us." After speaking, Yuan Hong and the three monkeys reverted to their original forms, and three monkeys appeared before Qingxu.
Seeing the three of them, Qingxu Daoren knew things were bad: "May I ask whose disciples you three are? State your names."
Yuan Hong said playfully: "We are the disciples of Kong Xuan, the fourth disciple of the Tongtian Sect Leader. My name is Yuan Hong, and these two are my junior brothers, Liuer and Ma Hou."
When Qingxu Daoren heard it was actually the three of them—they were all the most outstanding among the Third Generation Disciples of the Jie Sect—he thought of the alliance between the Jie Sect and the Chan Sect which forbade disciples of the two sects from fighting privately, so he said stiffly: "So it is two junior nephews from the Jie Sect. I am currently slaying a demon; I hope you will not interfere, otherwise, I fear it will damage the friendship between our two sects."
After speaking, he charged at the woman.
Yuan Hong hesitated for a moment, but he still took action and blocked Qingxu Daoren's attack.
Once Qingxu saw that Yuan Hong had actually taken action to block his attack, he said angrily: "What is the meaning of this, Junior Nephew Yuan Hong? Do you want to break the alliance between the two sects!"
Yuan Hong continued: "It is not me breaking the alliance between the two sects; it is you, Uncle-Master, who is in the wrong. Naturally, I must stop you. Please desist, Uncle-Master, or don't blame your junior nephew for being impolite."
Upon hearing Yuan Hong's words, Qingxu Daoren was so angry that he was burning with rage and said: "Fine, I want to see what kind of skills the outstanding Third Generation Disciples of the Jie Sect have."
After speaking, he attacked Yuan Hong. Qingxu Daoren could be considered the worst of the Second Generation Disciples of the Chan Sect, not even having reached the level of a Great Luo Golden Immortal. Naturally, he was no match for Yuan Hong and was injured by Yuan Hong after only a few rounds.
Qingxu Daoren looked at Yuan Hong standing opposite him and said: "Fine, a fine Yuan Hong indeed. Not only did you violate the alliance agreement between the Chan Sect and the Jie Sect, but you actually dared to injure a Second Generation Disciple of my Chan Sect. Today, my skills are inferior, so there is nothing to say. Let's see how you bear the punishment of the Jie Sect." After speaking, he gave Yuan Hong a resentful look and left with his two disciples.
Yuan Hong watched the figures of the three as they left and sighed.
Liuer and Ma Hou walked up and said to Yuan Hong: "Senior Brother, why did you let them go? If we had slaughtered them here, no one would have known. If he goes back and reports this, you will definitely be punished."
"Forget it, let them go. I will bear whatever punishment comes," Yuan Hong said heroically.
Seeing that the three monkeys had saved her, the woman hurriedly walked up and said to the three of them gratefully: "This little woman thanks the three of you for the rescue; otherwise, I fear I would have perished here."
"It's nothing. We are all of the demon kind and should help each other. We will be going now," Yuan Hong said, and then he took the two monkeys and walked toward the military camp of the Wu State.
The woman watched Yuan Hong's tall back as he left, and she felt a sense of reluctance in her heart.
