Chapter 355

One year later, Deep City, Ha Gong Da new campus.

Amid the crackling of firecrackers, Qin Miao walked onto the podium.

"Leaders, guests, friends, today, here, I am pleased to announce that the Ha Gong Da Shenzhen Campus is officially established!"

One month for approval, ten months for construction, the Ha Gong Da Shenzhen Campus was born, creating a miracle!

Now it is June; in one month will be the college entrance exam, after the exam enrollment will begin, and the Ha Gong Da Shenzhen Campus will also enroll a batch of new students at that time!

Warm applause sounded.

"At the same time, I am also pleased to announce that the Ha Gong Da Shenzhen Campus Office Factory is officially established; this factory will begin production of our Oriental first batch of TFT LCD displays, which can serve as computer monitors or TV monitors. With such LCD displays, our Loongson laptops will also go into formal production!"

Applause was warm.

"Here, I want to thank the Shenzhen leadership; without your support, our branch campus and campus office factory could not have been built in such a short time. Shenzhen speed is our Oriental speed!"

All around, tower cranes stood in rows; various construction projects continued to proceed vigorously. This former seaside fishing village is about to develop into an international metropolis!

Moreover, the addition of the Ha Gong Da branch campus and campus office factory will give this city wings like a tiger!

"Now, please Shenzhen leadership come up to speak!"

Qin Miao stepped down from the stage, looking helplessly at the person beside him: "President Liu, this ceremony should have been hosted by you, yet you yielded it to me!"

"Of course I must yield it to you; after all, without you there would be no new campus! Moreover, going forward, this campus will also be under your responsibility."

"What? President Liu, I am just a college student!"

"No, you are now the principal of this branch campus, and the campus office factory is also under your sole charge! This year's enrollment work is very heavy; young people like you must exert more effort."

"Cough cough..."

"Of course, some senior students will also be transferred here; senior year is for internship, so they can intern here."

"What?"

Qin Miao looked toward the other side, where Chu Miaomiao was laughing happily; it was obvious she too would be transferred over?

"Miaomiao, what work does she have?"

"Her work is not easy; she needs to share enrollment duties and factory management with you."

Chu Miaomiao's job is to be Qin Miao's secretary!

Above, the leaders were delivering an enthusiastic speech, with waves of applause that stirred passion.

"Today at noon, a banquet will be held at the Shenzhen Bamboo Garden Guesthouse to celebrate the arrival of Ha Gong Da!"

Bamboo Garden Guesthouse, the earliest hotel in Shenzhen, also the first Sino-foreign joint venture hotel in the country, holds significant meaning.

It is located in the middle section of the prosperous Shennan Avenue, adjacent to the Shenzhen municipal government. The hotel follows full Western management, high-end and imposing; its banquet hall especially evokes a sense of luxurious grandeur.

"Mr. Qin, I am delighted to meet you; I am James. I heard that your Oriental side has built a computer capable of a hundred billion operations per second—that is truly impressive!"

A tall foreigner, face full of excitement, looked at Qin Miao; he came to this banquet with a special purpose, not expecting to meet the main person so quickly.

"Yes, what foreigners can do, we Orientals can do; what foreigners cannot do, we Orientals can also do!" Qin Miao said with a smile: "Mr. James, thank you for your praise."

"May I ask, could we purchase one of your such computers? You may set the price as you wish!"

"Well..." Qin Miao smiled and shook his head: "Such a high-level computer cannot be sold externally, after all, it contains our high technology."

James blinked: "Mr. Qin, precisely because of the high technology, we came here to purchase."

"You have taken a fancy to our high technology, so you came to purchase?"

"Yes."

"Then when we took a fancy to your high technology, have you ever sold it to us? Our aviation industry lags behind; we wanted to import from the West but could only obtain 1960s-level Sperry technology. Our computer industry lags behind; we wanted to import from the West but could only obtain computers capable of a million operations per second. No matter what we seek to import, we always run up against the Western Bloc wall."

Qin Miao smiled: "Now that our technology has advanced, you want to import?"

"Please rest assured, the Western Bloc has lifted restrictions on computers."

"That is only because our technology is more advanced, rendering your restrictions meaningless." Qin Miao said: "And now, our even more advanced computers naturally come with restrictions; the hundred-billion-operations-per-second model cannot be sold to you; if you wish to buy, the most you can get is the ten-billion-operations-per-second model."

"The ten-billion-operations-per-second model is also acceptable."

"It needs to be installed in a dedicated room, with our staff holding the keys; you must hand over the computation programs to us, and we will operate the machine and give you the results."

"No, no, that won't do; that is what we purchased!"

"In recent years, when we bought computers from the West, it was the same as this!"

"You are discriminating!"

"What's wrong with discrimination? If you want to buy, buy; if not, forget it! Anyway, we never intended to sell; what if you bought it back and used this machine to simulate nuclear bombs?"

"Impossible; we are merely designing some aircraft."

"So we must retain control. What if the aircraft you design threaten our security?"

In this era, the Americans are preparing to develop fourth-generation aircraft, wanting to use our computers for auxiliary design? No way!

"President Qin, President Qin! We just received good news; our campus office factory has completed all debugging work, and the first batch of LCD screens has been produced!"

"Really? That is truly good news; after the banquet ends, we will go take a look!"

Inside the campus office factory, machines roared; blocks of LCD screens flowed out slowly from the end of the production line.

"Our production line adopts the most advanced glass centrifugal injection molding process; the glass substrates produced can reach 370 mm × 470 mm, allowing up to 23‑inch displays to be made; such televisions are absolutely the best‑looking in the world!"

"Hmm, however, we will set aside televisions for now and first use them in our computers, especially laptops; the design of this laptop..."

"Hmm, our Shenzhen electronics factory will develop it as soon as possible!"

In July, after the college entrance exam ended, countless examinees handed in satisfactory answer sheets; and in Shenzhen, a computer company named Shenzhou also turned in a satisfactory answer sheet, as the world's first laptop computer was officially born!
