Chapter 114: They All Deserve to Die!
Not here to stop me? Yu Dazhang's face was blank, completely confused.
Good lord, after all that howling just now, he'd thought they were here to fight him to the death.
Turns out they were just anxious to come over and back him up.
Looks like this one's also the type who'd charge in head-on.
At that moment, a line popped unbidden into Yu Dazhang's head…
You are not fighting alone — behind you stands a pack of beasts.
Ptooey, drop the second half!
Actually, Yu Dazhang had wanted Li Jun to go support his master, Lu Zhongxin.
But he didn't dare take the risk.
This was the most critical moment — if even a whisper leaked, the other side might notice.
At the same time, he firmly believed his master wouldn't reveal the current situation to anyone, not even Wei Qian.
By now, the two nurses inside the room were giving Yu Dazhang strange looks.
"Officer, may I make a phone call?" the nurse who had reported earlier asked.
"No." Yu Dazhang refused coldly:
"From now on, neither of you may contact anyone."
He'd wanted to confiscate the two nurses' phones, but considering things hadn't reached that point yet, he could only give them a verbal warning.
Regulations on handling cases: items not involved in the case cannot be seized proactively.
"Don't harbor any foolish hopes," Yu Dazhang continued:
"Once our people arrive, they'll seize control of the surveillance room first thing."
"While you still have time, think carefully about how you'll explain yourselves then."
He trusted those two nurses could understand.
Explain what?
Surveillance is normally retained for two months. During this period, you two repeatedly used a transport gurney to wheel people out of the nurses' lounge — is that normal?
No footage of a child entering the room, yet one can be wheeled out from inside — surely that needs some explaining.
The surveillance video alone proves there's a problem with the nurses' lounge, and combined with the equipment right in front of us, and the floor connecting the levels above and below…
The purpose is self-evident.
The reason these two nurses could still stay calm came down to two things.
First, their backing.
They figured this time too they could rely on the forces behind the hospital to pull them out of danger.
Put plainly, they were brazen — they'd tasted the sweetness before, and nothing had ever gone wrong.
Second, the lack of conclusive physical evidence.
Right now, all that could be proven was that a passage connected the hospital's fourth and fifth floors.
Though the practice was improper, it hadn't crossed the legal red line.
Even if they admitted to secretly smuggling children out, it couldn't be proven what exactly they'd done to those children.
Take the child lying on the transport gurney right in front of them, for instance.
The person hadn't disappeared, hadn't come to harm.
Even if the family came to make a scene and demanded answers from the hospital, in the end it would only be classified as a civil dispute.
In truth, Yu Dazhang right now was even more nervous than those two nurses.
Years ago, the hospital had already laid its groundwork — every piece of key evidence that could directly prove liability had been moved outside the hospital.
Leaving nothing of substance to be found inside.
So he could only pin his hopes on Lu Zhongxin now.
If something went wrong on his master's end, what awaited him would be the hospital's frenzied retaliation.
Another ten minutes or so passed, and Yu Dazhang's phone rang again. He glanced at the screen.
Master!
The moment he pressed answer, he noticed his own fingers trembling slightly, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down, his heart pounding fiercely.
"The target vehicle has stopped in front of a medical equipment specialty store," Lu Zhongxin's voice was steady:
"I've already contacted Captain Wei. He's bringing people over right away."
Good — everything's going smoothly… Yu Dazhang breathed a sigh of relief.
"Anyone getting out of the vehicle?" he asked.
"No," Lu Zhongxin replied:
"But people have come out of that store. They're opening the cargo compartment of the vehicle, and they're carrying cases."
Cases?
A sudden bad premonition struck Yu Dazhang.
"Can you tell what kind of cases?"
The line went silent for two seconds — probably observing.
Soon the phone carried a voice again, and this time the speaker was Qian Cheng.
"Medical thermostatic containers."
No one got out of the vehicle, yet someone was carrying medical thermostatic containers to load up…
Yu Dazhang only ran it through his head once before immediately realizing what they were about to do. "They're going to run!"
Lu Zhongxin had realized it too — the two of them blurted out that line almost in unison.
"We can't wait any longer, stop them now!" Yu Dazhang shouted.
Waiting for reinforcements was already too late; if they let the car get on the road, it would undoubtedly make the arrest far more difficult.
Now that the storage point had been found, the direct evidence was most likely inside the thermostatic chamber.
Time to close the net!
Lu Zhongxin plus two officers from the First Brigade — that made three armed criminal investigators.
Add Qian Cheng to that.
That's enough.
"Block the car in front of them!"
At Lu Zhongxin's command, the roar of a car engine came through the phone.
Yu Dazhang pressed the phone tight against his ear.
Please... bookmark... 6... 9... book........!
The sound just now had been a bit muffled — probably because Master had stuffed the phone in his coat pocket.
Immediately after came a shrill screech of brakes.
Yu Dazhang's heart clenched sharply, and he unconsciously clenched his fists.
"Nobody move! Get out of the car!!"
"Hands above your head, now!"
"Let go, put the case on the ground!"
Clamour, chaotic footsteps, and cries of alarm from the other side…
Yu Dazhang even slowed his breathing, afraid of missing a single sound.
Right now he could only judge by sound whether the operation was going smoothly.
When a sharp *click* rang out, his heart leapt into his throat.
That was the sound of handcuffs being applied — once that step was done, the operation was basically secure.
But this was also the moment most prone to mishap.
In many past arrest operations, suspects had used that one brief moment of close contact to fight back.
Yu Dazhang had never felt time drag on so long — every second seemed stretched to infinity.
"Get down, everyone get down!"
"Squat against the side of the car, don't move!"
When those two lines reached his ears, the anxiety in Yu Dazhang's heart vanished in an instant.
The arrest was a success!
Why do police always order suspects to squat down when taking control of them?
This isn't something made up for TV dramas.
It's the same in real life.
It's a traditional practice — when a person is squatting, their aggression and mobility are at their weakest, which helps the police maintain control.
In form it does look a bit disrespectful, but there's no more reasonable alternative.
Actually, lying face-down works too — police in many countries make suspects lie flat on the ground.
Hands cuffed behind the back, face-down on the ground — they can't even lift their head, let alone struggle.
The clamour gradually died down; Yu Dazhang stayed in his phone-call posture, quietly waiting.
"The scene is secured." Lu Zhongxin's voice came through again.
Just from his voice one could tell he was in an excited state — even his breathing was much heavier than before.
Time was tight, so Yu Dazhang immediately spoke in a commanding tone:
"Give the phone to Qian Cheng."
"Got it."
After Lu Zhongxin acknowledged, Qian Cheng's voice quickly came from the other end:
"Dazhang, it's me."
"Go check the cargo bay, see what's inside," Yu Dazhang said quickly.
"And open that medical thermostatic chamber — whatever's in there, photograph it and send it to me."
This kind of task was best left to Qian Cheng.
After all, he was from the technical unit — when it came to professional knowledge, he certainly knew far more than the rest of them, criminal investigators.
About a minute later.
"This, this is…"
Qian Cheng's voice was trembling — whatever he was seeing seemed almost impossible for him to believe.
After drawing a deep breath.
"Stem-cell centrifuge, spinal-cord stem-cell harvester…"
After rattling off the names of several pieces of equipment, Qian Cheng said in an extremely strained voice:
"They're not human — beasts wouldn't stoop so low, every last one of them deserves to die!!"
