Chapter 126: Burial Companion
The next day.
Yu Dazhang had expected Ye Lin to come pick him up early in the morning.
But he waited until eight o'clock and still did not see her arrive.
At eight-thirty, he could no longer hold back and called Ye Lin.
"Why didn't you come to pick me up?"
"I'm already downstairs at your building. Come down."
Arriving downstairs and getting into the jeep, Yu Dazhang looked at the energetic Ye Lin and asked:
"Why didn't you call me when you arrived?"
"I wanted to let you rest a bit longer; anyway, the police dogs haven't arrived yet." Ye Lin said while starting the car:
"Let's go to the specialty store first; they should be there in another half hour."
Arriving at the store entrance, Yu Dazhang saw the officers who had guarded the place all night.
After learning that no abnormal incidents had occurred last night, he told the officers to go back and rest.
After waiting a while longer, a Ford stopped at the entrance of the specialty store.
Two officers got out of the car, each leading a police dog.
After exchanging greetings, Yu Dazhang explained the situation.
His purpose in opening the window last night was to try to eliminate the odors inside the room as much as possible.
After the ventilation, no one had entered the room again.
If someone were truly hiding below, a scent must have drifted up; otherwise, the person inside would have suffocated.
"It's already very good that you thought of this method."
The officer holding the police dog said to Yu Dazhang:
"This will allow for more accurate identification of the scent."
After opening the main door, the two officers led the police dogs inside.
Yu Dazhang and Ye Lin did not follow them in.
They carried their own scents, which would affect the police dogs' judgment.
Five minutes later, one of the police dogs suddenly began barking furiously at an office desk in one of the rooms.
The other police dog was also led over, reacting exactly the same as the first one.
Found it!
Yu Dazhang and Ye Lin immediately walked briskly into the room.
The two officers led the police dogs backward, clearing an empty space, and then nodded at them.
"Contact the SWAT team for support." Yu Dazhang ordered.
Although the entrance and exit had been found, no one knew the situation below.
Such a high-risk, high-difficulty task required the SWAT team to complete it.
Ye Lin took out her mobile phone, just about to make a call, when she suddenly saw the office desk move.
"Step back!"
She shouted loudly, then immediately drew her pistol and aimed it at the office desk.
As the office desk slowly descended, a man's voice rose from below:
"Don't be nervous; we have no weapons."
The tone was relaxed, sounding completely unlike that of a criminal fleeing in panic.
Their psychological quality is good enough... Yu Dazhang became secretly alert.
The more like this a person is, the more dangerous they are.
Being able to maintain such a mindset shows they have confidence.
After the office desk descended completely, a hollow opening was revealed on the ground.
Ye Lin aimed her gun at that spot, her expression on her face very heavy and solemn, with killing intent in her eyes.
"When you come up, squat on the desk and hold your head with both hands." Yu Dazhang shouted loudly.
"No problem." The person below agreed very readily.
Soon, the sound of machinery operating rang out; three men squatted side by side on the office desk and slowly rose up.
"Get down, squat on the ground!"
As Yu Dazhang spoke, he took out handcuffs, planning to cuff two of them first, then search the third person.
When criminal police officers carry out missions, they generally carry two pairs of handcuffs on their person; this is not a hard requirement, as one pair is also acceptable.
Influenced by his master, Lu Zhongxin, he had gotten into the habit of carrying two pairs of handcuffs before going out every time, to be prepared for unexpected needs.
Just as he had taken two steps, the man squatting in the middle suddenly smiled at Yu Dazhang.
"Ha, it's you."
Trying to act familiar? I don't know scum like you... Yu Dazhang ignored him.
He could confirm at a single glance that he had never seen the appearances of these three people before. "Don't come closer!" The man in the middle suddenly held a mobile phone high up.
Yu Dazhang looked at that mobile phone, paused for a moment, and immediately stopped his steps.
An old-style button phone?
In the early years of the millennium, this kind of phone was mainstream, but with technological development, it had been replaced by smartphones in recent years.
Only some people who are slightly older still use this kind of phone.
So now such phones are usually called: elderly phones.
"We placed explosives below, enough to level the entire building."
The man's thumb rested on the dial key, a smug smile spreading across his face:
"One light press from me, and not just you — a lot of people will be buried with us!"
Yu Dazhang turned to look at the officer holding the police dog.
If there were explosives, the police dog should be able to sniff them out.
Unexpectedly, the two officers shook their heads:
Please... save.... 6... 9.... book....!
"We've now confirmed there's a problem down there, but we can't go any further to confirm whether there's dynamite."
It's actually easy to understand — a police dog is, after all, not a person.
When a person smells several different scents, they can pick each one out and name it.
A police dog can't do that — it can only confirm that a place has a problem, without listing every issue one by one.
"You two head out first." Yu Dazhang said to the two officers.
Since they couldn't pin it down, their usefulness here was limited.
If there really was dynamite down there, there was no need to throw more lives away.
He had another purpose in doing this — sending the two officers out to call for backup.
After they left, Yu Dazhang stared at the man in the middle and asked:
"Why stop hiding?"
"Can't hide anymore." The man replied:
"The moment I heard the dog bark, I knew this place had been blown."
"Since the ending is already fixed, I might as well come out early and see who found this place."
"What a coincidence — turns out it's you."
Something's off with his emotions… Yu Dazhang had taken the initiative to talk to him, intending to soothe the man's mood.
But in the exchange just now, he noticed the man showed no fear or panic — no negative reaction at all — and even wore a faintly relaxed smile.
Could it be that the man wasn't afraid of death?
Impossible — even he himself, the instant he heard there was dynamite, had felt an involuntary flicker of fear.
That was a normal human reaction.
And besides, the man's last line had come out far too naturally.
He really knows me? Yu Dazhang was a little thrown off too.
"The hospital case — you're the mastermind, right?" He switched to a new topic.
No matter what the man's aim was, he couldn't let the conversation follow the other's lead.
Lose control of the rhythm, and he'd be led by the nose.
"Don't try to pump me." The man stood up, ignoring the muzzle of Ye Lin's gun, and smiled at Yu Dazhang:
"Even if I admit it, so what? You think a little cop like you can take me?"
"And do you know what it'll cost you to catch me?"
"If you don't want to die, step aside and get us a car."
Yu Dazhang noticed that, as the man said all this, the two people beside him actually wore confident expressions.
He's not bluffing… Yu Dazhang quickly reached a judgment in his mind.
Some serious backing~
And the bearing of these three.
They gave off a lofty, untouchable air — something ordinary people couldn't fake.
Only someone who'd spent a long time in an environment where they were the center of attention would have that kind of noble air.
So the question is.
Would people like that really be willing to go down with everyone else?
In their eyes, other people's lives were weeds, ants — tools to be picked up and used at will.
So…
Bluffing!
You trying to bullshit your daddy here?!
