Chapter 3: Is There Anything You Can
It’s not too much to help each other among colleagues.
We’re all here to solve the case; even if some actions seem a bit extreme, they’re understandable.
You’re it—give me a ride!
Yu Dazhang lunged forward, grabbed Zhang Sen’s waist with both hands, and jumped hard…
Zhang Sen never in his wildest dreams imagined he’d encounter something like this!!
Seeing the suspect run off, he was just about to straighten up and chase after him when he suddenly felt a pair of hands press against his waist.
Before he could turn around, a tremendous pressure surged from his waist.
Caught off guard, Zhang Sen lost his balance and stumbled forward, switching from holding his cane with one hand to both.
He shot forward over ten meters in one go.
Even so, Zhang Sen couldn’t regain his balance—the person riding on his waist was seriously overweight.
Only Zhang Sen could handle it; any ordinary person would’ve been crushed under the weight.
The nickname “Cheetah” isn’t given lightly—his legs are genuinely powerful.
“Who the hell is this?!”
Suffering this blow, Zhang Sen no longer cared about anything else.
He roared, straining to keep his balance, terrified of being knocked down.
If he fell, that guy on his waist would sit right down—and then everything would come out.
Yu Dazhang hadn’t expected it to go so smoothly—Zhang Sen’s forward momentum happened to align perfectly with the suspect’s escape route.
Worse still, he noticed that since he’d mounted Zhang Sen, the suspect ahead had frozen in place, as if turned to stone.
His eyes locked onto them, mouth open, but not a sound came out.
It wasn’t that the suspect couldn’t run—he’d just reached the other side of the road, thrilled to have finally shaken off that fat guy.
But of all the stupid things to do, he happened to look back…
That one glance left him frozen in place, rigid, unable to move an inch.
His mind went blank, one thought echoing endlessly: What the hell did he just ride?
What an obscure mount~
And surprisingly fast too.
Even as Yu Dazhang and Zhang Sen reached him, he remained stunned, motionless.
“Keep running—why’d you stop?” Yu Dazhang grabbed the suspect’s arm:
“Aren’t you just a minute ago running like hell?”
The suspect didn’t answer. Instead, his gaze dropped to Zhang Sen, still struggling.
That’s why acting requires talent—even up close, the suspect didn’t realize this was a man in disguise.
“You’re a cop, right?” The suspect looked up at Yu Dazhang, utterly bewildered:
“Are cops really using such underhanded tactics now?”
The suspect’s words snapped Yu Dazhang out of it—he immediately dismounted. Seeing Zhang Sen about to collapse, he grabbed him instantly.
This credit belongs to both of us… Yu Dazhang was very satisfied with this mutual assistance.
After all, colleagues should share the glory.
Look how happy Zhang Sen is—he’s even sticking out his tongue.
Sticking out his tongue!!
“Are you okay? What happened?” Yu Dazhang crouched down, anxious.
Zhang Sen gasped for breath a few times, then, once he recognized Yu Dazhang, raised his arm and pointed at him:
“Good, good, good…”
Whether from exhaustion or rage, Zhang Sen stammered “good” for ages but couldn’t form a complete sentence.
Yu Dazhang grew more alarmed, patted his back, then glared at the suspect:
“Look what you’ve done to him just to catch you!”
“What’s this got to do with me?!” the suspect exploded.
He’d admit to his crimes, but he’d absolutely deny any connection to this.
Seeing Yu Dazhang about to speak again, the suspect quickly added:
“You rode an old lady to chase me—not me riding an old lady to escape!”
If this isn’t cleared up, how can I ever face anyone again? What will my fellow fenceers think? We have standards, you know.
Overall, the arrest was a success—the only flaw was that Yu Dazhang didn’t follow the plan.
Before the operation, Lu Zhongxin had ordered Yu Dazhang to infiltrate the matchmaking market and conduct covert surveillance.
In plain terms, he was never meant to act.
After all, Yu Dazhang was only a probationary officer, and this was his first operation.
Sending such a rookie to apprehend a suspect was bound to cause mistakes.
If he got hurt or scared off the suspect, Lu Zhongxin—as his master—would bear primary responsibility.
As soon as they returned to the unit, Lu Zhongxin pulled Yu Dazhang aside.
“Did you stuff donkey hair in your ears? Did I or did I not tell you not to act?!”
“That’s not right,” Yu Dazhang looked genuinely aggrieved:
“You said the suspect appeared and gave the number—I thought you meant for me to hold them off.”
!. Read
“Hold them off?” Lu Zhongxin paused, surprised Yu Dazhang would dare defend himself—but quickly recovered:
“Do you even understand what ‘hold off’ means? You knocked down two guys outright—is that holding them off? Luckily the suspect wasn’t hurt; at least you know your own limits.”
Having served as a detective for so many years, Lu Zhongxin’s observational skills far surpassed ordinary people.
He’d noticed right away: Yu Dazhang looked clueless, but his strikes were precisely controlled.
That first kick against the suspect? Clearly restrained.
If it had been some reckless rookie, he’d have shattered the guy’s leg.
A broken leg would meet the standard for minor injury.
If the suspect were a violent felon or murderer, it wouldn’t matter.
But this suspect? Just a fenceer—his crime isn’t serious.
“Heh, I got too eager,” Yu Dazhang immediately bowed his head and apologized as Lu Zhongxin’s tone softened:
“I’ll be more careful next time—I just didn’t want to embarrass you, Master.”
Watching Yu Dazhang’s apologetic grin, Lu Zhongxin kept a stern face—but inside, he felt satisfied.
At least this apprentice had guts and knew his limits—far better than those other reckless rookies who joined at the same time.
Just as he was about to give Yu Dazhang more advice, Captain Zhang Dong rushed into the hallway.
“Lao Lu, come in!”
After saying that, he shot Yu Dazhang a glare.
What’s going on?
Confused, Yu Dazhang followed Lu Zhongxin into the room.
Inside, he noticed everyone staring at him strangely—as if he were a giant panda in a zoo.
Two of them were biting their lips, faces flushed.
“How the hell did you train him?!”
As soon as he entered, Zhang Dong roared at Lu Zhongxin.
Lu Zhongxin was baffled—he assumed Yu Dazhang had disobeyed orders and caused the captain to get reprimanded.
But then he reconsidered: this small matter wouldn’t have reached leadership.
Besides, the arrest succeeded—there was no reason for blame.
Seeing Lu Zhongxin’s confusion, Zhang Dong grew angrier.
“Here’s the alarm log just sent from command center—figure out how to handle this!”
Taking the printed report from Zhang Dong, Lu Zhongxin glanced at it—and immediately frowned.
Who the hell is this?
What a cruel bastard.
When he reached the bottom, veins bulged on his forehead.
“Yu Dazhang, you’ve done it again!” He slammed the alarm report onto the desk:
“Is there anything you can’t do?!”
