Chapter 410: You Absolutely Cannot Have Anything Happen to You

~8 min read 1,423 words

Another minute passed, and two ambulances arrived at the scene.

The medical personnel quickly jumped down from the vehicles, pulled out stretchers, and together with the police officers who had already been waiting at the scene, lifted Yu Dazhang onto one of the ambulances.

Afterward, the police officers lifted Zhang Chao's mother onto the other ambulance.

Both ambulances departed with police officers aboard, in case of any sudden developments.

After the ambulances left, Captain Hua and the people from the Baling City Bureau arrived one after another.

When they saw the scene before them with their own eyes, every one of them couldn't help but suck in a cold breath.

A thick smell of blood hung in the air at the scene, with corpses strewn all over the ground.

What was even more surprising was that more than half of the dead were not from the country.

At this moment, Captain Hua had no time to think about anything else. He first looked around at everyone present and didn't spot anyone overweight.

He looked once more...

After confirming that Yu Dazhang was not among the living, his hands unconsciously clenched into fists, his face dark and terrifying.

Please, nothing bad can happen... His gaze swept once more over the corpses on the ground, one by one.

A moment later, he let out a breath of relief.

Yu Dazhang wasn't there.

Then he turned his attention to the police officers.

"When you arrived, did you see a fat guy?" Captain Hua grabbed one of the officers and asked.

"He was taken away in an ambulance," the officer replied.

While they were speaking, the officer who had led the group came up to Captain Hua.

"Hello, sir." He first saluted, then explained:

"When we arrived, he was already in a comatose state—it should be from excessive blood loss."

As he spoke, he raised his hand and gestured at his own head:

"Judging from the bleeding points, the injuries should be on the top of the head and the shoulder."

Upon hearing that Yu Dazhang had been injured, Captain Hua immediately tensed up, his expression heavy and solemn as he asked:

"Which hospital did he go to?"

"The Fourth Hospital," that officer replied:

"It's the nearest public hospital to the port. Don't worry, I had an officer go along with him."

Captain Hua nodded, said nothing more, but jogged over to the city bureau side and quickly gave a few instructions.

Before getting in the car, he took one more look at the scene, the corner of his mouth twitching unconsciously.

I told him to hold them off, not to wipe them all out... He recalled his earlier phone call with Yu Dazhang and confirmed he hadn't misspoken.

Brother, is there some kind of misunderstanding between us?

Baling Fourth Hospital.

Captain Hua had his foot pressed almost flat on the accelerator the whole way, racing along, his heart in his throat.

Even though he had never been superstitious, he kept praying the entire way.

Please, you absolutely cannot have anything happen to you!

He knew perfectly well: if something really did happen to Yu Dazhang, then he could just go ahead and consider himself done for.

Out of the entire task force, only the team leader had been killed.

What kind of responsibility would that place on the deputy team leader?

Forget himself—probably the entire provincial department's criminal investigation brigade would get dragged into it.

A man who had been awarded two first-class individual merits had an accident while handling a case in their N province—and it happened while the criminal investigation brigade was cooperating.

Who would shoulder that responsibility?

In other words, who could possibly shoulder it?

Arriving at the hospital, Captain Hua asked the nurse at the triage desk and then headed straight for the emergency room.

The nurses at the emergency room door were busy, seemingly anxiously contacting someone about something.

Beside them, a police officer stood waiting, a look of tension on his face as well.

Captain Hua stepped forward, showed his credentials to that officer, and asked:

"What's the situation now? What are they busy with?"

"The hospital blood bank doesn't have enough blood," the officer said, his face equally anxious, but helpless to do anything, so his words came out a bit short of breath:

"They're contacting other hospitals to coordinate blood supplies."

Not enough blood? Hearing this, Captain Hua felt like his head was about to explode.

He was well aware of the consequences of the blood supply falling short, so he immediately went over to the nurses.

"What's the patient's blood type?" He grabbed a nurse and asked.

The nurse, assuming he was a family member of the patient, hurriedly replied:

"Type O."

Captain Hua was clearly a bit surprised by this answer. He frowned and pressed on:

"Isn't Type O the most common blood type?"

Although he didn't know much about medicine, he had often heard people say that Type O was also called the universal blood type, so it should be the one least in short supply.

"That's worldwide," the nurse quickly explained:

"In our country, Type A, Type AB, and Type B each account for 30%, while Type O only accounts for 10%. It's called the universal blood type because there are many people who need it—that doesn't mean Type O has a large stock."

After hearing this, Captain Hua didn't say more, but took out his phone and walked aside.

After thinking for a moment, he made his first call to the top leader.

With something like this, he wouldn't dare hide it even if you lent him ten times the guts, and besides, it couldn't be hidden anyway, so at this point he had to report to the big boss first.

After the call went through, before he could even speak, the big boss on the other end asked impatiently:

"Calling at this hour — did something happen?"

"Yu Dazhang's been shot. He's in emergency treatment right now." Captain Hua answered concisely.

"What!" The big boss on the other end's tone changed completely:

"What the hell are you all good for? A task force of nearly twenty people, and you still let the team leader get injured!"

Normally, if the big boss was throwing a fit like this, Captain Hua would have kept his mouth shut, but the situation was urgent now, so he could only steel himself and cut in:

"Listen to me first. The emergency treatment isn't going smoothly — the hospital's blood bank doesn't have enough type O."

At those words, the other end went quiet.

That brief silence lasted only a second before the big boss's voice sounded again.

Only this time his voice had shifted from irate to low:

"Which hospital?"

"The Fourth Hospital." Captain Hua answered immediately.

"From now on, you go wait at the hospital entrance and meet the colleagues coming with the blood."

The big boss spoke fast, and hung up directly after finishing.

Captain Hua didn't dare delay, and dialed Qi Fang next.

The moment it connected, he asked directly:

"Where are you?"

"Just about to enter Baling city." Qi Fang on the other end answered crisply:

"Should be another twenty minutes to the port."

Captain Hua knew very well how far it was from Liancheng to Baling — for Qi Fang and the others to reach Baling that fast showed just how fast they were driving.

"Don't go to the port. Once you're in Baling, head straight to the local military hospital." Captain Hua added after finishing:

"Yu Dazhang's injured. He needs plasma right now."

His words were like a bomb dropped into a calm lake — three people on the other end immediately cried out in shock:

"You said who!!"

Captain Hua could tell that two of them were criminal investigators who had come over from Songhai.

"No time to explain now — hurry up and go."

He understood how they felt, but saving the patient came first, so he couldn't waste words on them.

The hospital the big boss contacted would definitely be a local civilian one.

What he needed to do was get the military hospital to help coordinate — a two-pronged approach, to make sure the plasma arrived in time.

Ten minutes later.

After coordination and communication, Qi Fang and the others successfully got the plasma at the military hospital.

While Captain Hua was on the line with them, he clearly heard one Songhai criminal investigator shout:

"Cut the crap — I'll drive in a bit!"
