Chapter 558: Why Should a Police Dog Compare with Me?
Lu Zhongxin:????
He's getting harder and harder to understand these days.
Just walking around the house, and his disciple can tell Cheng Wenhao's back home?
Are you sure you're not fortune-telling?
Or do your eyes have X-ray vision?
Back at the detention center, Yu Dazhang insisted on interrogating Zhang Yanlong—he still didn't understand how.
There were so many people in the cell; how did his disciple know Zhang Yanlong was suspicious?
Now it's even more impressive.
Just by standing outside and looking at the house, Yu Dazhang can tell Cheng Wenhao's returned.
Though Lu Zhongxin was puzzled, he trusted his disciple and walked forward to knock on the courtyard gate.
Soon, a woman's voice came from inside:
"Who is it?"
"Police." Yu Dazhang answered directly.
The entire area was filled with personnel from the Criminal Investigation Corps, so he wasn't worried about anyone inside playing tricks.
If Cheng Wenhao truly showed up, the people around would react immediately.
The courtyard gate opened, revealing a woman in her fifties standing inside, curiously eyeing the four men outside.
Yu Dazhang stepped forward, his face cold:
"We're here for Cheng Wenhao. Have him come out."
Upon hearing this, the woman's face twisted with panic; she shook her head frantically:
"He's not home—Xiao Hao hasn't returned. He, he was arrested by the police."
Her words were jumbled, but the meaning was clear.
Her panic was subtle—partly shock at hearing her son's name, partly guilt.
"Can we come in and take a look?"
Though Yu Dazhang phrased it as a request, his tone left no room for refusal.
It was obvious the woman didn't want them in, but the situation gave her no choice.
After a moment's hesitation, she stepped aside:
"Come in."
Inside the courtyard, Yu Dazhang gave Ma Jian and Liu Miao a glance; they understood instantly and walked toward the house.
The woman didn't stop them, only followed closely behind Yu Dazhang.
Not inside the house… Yu Dazhang shifted his body, casually glancing at the woman beside him.
If Cheng Wenhao were inside, she'd follow them in.
It wasn't a matter of whether she wanted to—she simply couldn't control herself.
So Yu Dazhang sent Ma Jian and the others inside to narrow the possibilities.
Wherever the woman stayed, Cheng Wenhao was hidden.
The courtyard was neatly kept—no pigpen, no chicken coop, just a simple makeshift kitchen built against the wall, plain yet cozy.
"Where's your husband?" Yu Dazhang asked.
"Inside the house," the woman replied:
"He fell ill after the New Year and hasn't fully recovered—he still can't get out of bed."
Yu Dazhang nodded, but didn't stop walking; he paced slowly around the courtyard, occasionally glancing up at the roof.
He stopped before a small, standalone tile-roofed shed, its door locked.
"What's this little shed for?" Yu Dazhang asked, turning to the woman.
"Storage," the woman answered smoothly, showing no sign of nervousness:
"Just tools—mostly metal ones—to keep them from rusting."
Probably not here… Yu Dazhang thought her answer was too natural.
If Cheng Wenhao were inside, she wouldn't be so calm.
"Can you open it?" Yu Dazhang asked again.
"Of course." The woman pulled a keychain from her pocket, unlocked the padlock, and pushed the door open:
"It's a bit messy—watch your step so you don't trip."
Yu Dazhang nodded, then glanced at his master.
Lu Zhongxin understood, placed his hand on his holster, and stepped inside.
In that moment, Yu Dazhang stepped back two paces and watched as the woman didn't follow his master—instead, she turned her gaze toward him.
Where is he hiding?
Now even Yu Dazhang wasn't sure anymore.
