Chapter 618: What True Friends Can There Be at a Card Table
S Province.
Captain Xu stepped out of the office building and boarded a police car.
"A middle-aged man was discovered at Xinhaiwan Bath Center, suspected to be the missing school bus driver, but the ID card is registered under another person's name."
A police officer, his face gloomy, reported to Captain Xu in the passenger seat while driving:
"Officers on site have secured the front and back doors of the bath center; we are just waiting for the order to arrest."
Captain Xu's expression remained calm as he lightly hummed, "Mm."
It was evident he was not at all surprised by this.
Since that school bus driver dared to take shelter in a place like a bath center, he must have acquired another legal identity.
More than a week had passed since the school bus went missing, and the pressure on the special task force was mounting.
Now everyone was taut with tension; even the slightest rustle could trigger their alertness.
The police car sped down the road and stopped at the entrance of Xinhaiwan Bath Center ten minutes later.
As soon as Captain Xu stepped out of the car, he saw the other members of the special task force already waiting at the main gate.
"Captain."
The team members greeted Captain Xu.
"Is everyone present?" Captain Xu asked.
"All team members have arrived." The deputy team leader immediately reported the on-site situation:
"Police from the nearby police station have also come to support; not only the front and back doors, but the entire bath center is now surrounded."
It was not that they were making a mountain out of a molehill, but now every single clue had to be taken seriously.
If the person upstairs was indeed that missing school bus driver, he very likely had accomplices.
Having committed such a grave crime, once they discovered they were surrounded, these people were extremely likely to resort to extreme measures like jumping out of a window.
Just as they were speaking, the deputy team leader's phone rang.
"Mm, mm, okay, I understand; you continue to keep an eye on the target."
It was clear this was a call from the officer inside the bath center responsible for covert surveillance.
After ending the call, the deputy team leader immediately reported to Captain Xu:
"The target has returned from the restaurant to the guest room; whether there are accomplices is still unclear for now."
Captain Xu nodded and walked into the bath center first, with the officers following behind.
According to the investigation, the school bus driver's name was Ren Yupeng, 32 years old, originally from another province, and had come to S Province to work ten years ago.
Since the work he did consisted of easy and simple tasks, his income had always been low.
He had dated several girlfriends here, but they all broke up for various reasons in the end.
By all rights, a person like this should have long since been worn down by life and would basically never do anything outrageous.
Yet this time, he happened to commit such a major case that ordinary people wouldn't even dare to imagine.
That's right; the special task force has now listed this Ren Yupeng as the primary suspect.
Road surveillance from the day of the incident showed that the school bus only picked up fourteen deaf-mute female students, and no one else boarded midway.
Moreover, after picking up the students, the school bus driven by Ren Yupeng did not stop midway but drove directly to a surveillance blind spot in the suburbs.
"Arrest."
After observing the environment in the first-floor lobby, Captain Xu made an immediate decision and gave the order to arrest.
The team members immediately drew their service pistols and rushed upstairs.
At the door of a guest room on the third floor, accompanied by the "ding-ling" sound of a card unlocking the door, two armed criminal investigation officers charged into the room first.
Immediately after, a man's terrified shout came from inside:
"Who are you! What do you want?"
The reply was the officers' cold voice:
"Don't move, behave! Is there anyone else in the room?"
"Don't press down on me, I can't breathe." The man did not answer but shouted loudly:
"Let me go first!"
In this interval, Captain Xu led the other officers of the special task force into the room as well.
What presented itself before Captain Xu's eyes was a man in his early thirties wearing only a pair of shorts.
He was lying face down on the bed, pinned by an officer's knee, while another officer was putting handcuffs on him.
Captain Xu stepped forward, grabbed his hair, and forced his face to turn around.
