Chapter 717: Listed Supervised Case
Jinling City Bureau, large conference room.
When Yu Dazhang and Xu Dui entered, the senior leader at the head of the table was conversing with the team members, apparently gathering case details.
The atmosphere inside the room was not tense; several people, including the senior leader, were smoking.
The moment the two stepped into the conference room, the conversation halted, and the senior leader nodded at them:
“Sit down.”
His voice was gentle yet commanding, inspiring instinctive respect.
The two hurried to the conference table and slowly sat in the two chairs closest to the main seat.
These two seats had clearly been reserved specifically for them.
From this arrangement, it was evident that although Yu Dazhang held only the rank of an ordinary detective, among police officers in Province S, he was already regarded as a leader.
Notably, Xu Dui had just deliberately seated him on the senior leader’s left side.
After all, the left side is the position reserved for the second-in-command.
Xu Dui was demonstrating his stance through action: this man is the one in charge of the investigation.
“I’ve just reviewed the case details.”
The senior leader first glanced at Xu Dui on his right, then turned his gaze to Yu Dazhang:
“You’ve done well—the case resolution speed has exceeded expectations.”
“In just one night, eleven hideouts holding kidnapped victims were dismantled nationwide; such a major case is extremely rare.”
As he spoke, he turned his gaze to those present:
“From the perspective of human trafficking, the scale of this case is unprecedented, and the number of abducted victims has surpassed our estimates.”
“Meanwhile, last night’s operation has drawn high-level attention from the Ministry of Public Security.”
He paused, then turned his gaze back to Yu Dazhang:
“Upon decision by Ministry leadership, this case has been officially designated as a Ministry-Listed Supervised Case.”
I’m off the hook… Yu Dazhang exhaled inwardly.
Typically, when a case is Ministry-listed, a working group is sent down to supervise.
After all, he was just an ordinary detective—he clearly couldn’t liaise with a working group.
There was simply too much rank difference.
Unless Province S was willing to sacrifice face, they wouldn’t have pushed Yu Dazhang to the forefront.
The senior leader seemed to sense his thoughts and suddenly shifted tone:
“Although this is a Ministry-listed case, due to its involvement of too many provinces and its extremely broad scope, the higher-ups have decided not to send a working group down for now.”
He paused, then added:
“Don’t feel any psychological pressure—being listed doesn’t mean your previous work was inadequate; it simply means this case is exceptionally major and serious, and the higher-ups are paying close attention.”
In truth, none of this needed explanation.
Everyone present were seasoned veteran detectives—their years of service spoke for themselves; they knew exactly what Ministry-listed meant.
This case involved too many abducted victims, posing a high risk of negative social impact, so supervision was needed to ensure resolution.
It was essentially telling everyone: the Ministry of Public Security takes this case extremely seriously and will see it through to the end.
Not coming? Yu Dazhang felt a twinge of disappointment.
He had never seen a Ministry working group before; with a humble, eager-to-learn attitude, he had planned to use this opportunity to exchange insights with them.
If he could meet the legendary Eight Tigers of Criminal Investigation, that would be ideal.
In any field, there are figures like stars—those at the very pinnacle of their profession.
Unfortunately, Yu Dazhang had only heard of them, never met them.
“All detectives across the country are straining to solve this case.”
The senior leader continued:
“But in my view, the only team that will successfully crack it is our own special task force—without you, the case would never have reached this point.”
“I have absolute faith in your abilities. I’m counting on all of you.”
That’s real skill… Yu Dazhang thought inwardly.
He didn’t pressure them, didn’t demand a written guarantee—just by lowering his stance slightly, he had already placed everyone under obligation.
When your leader places such trust in you, failing to solve the case would be a betrayal of that trust.
