Chapter 739: The Intentional Flaw
Gu Dingwen has arrived!
When he heard the words “motorhome,” Yu Dazhang sat up sharply, his lingering drowsiness vanishing instantly, his eyes blazing with excitement and eagerness.
If a motorhome has appeared, it proves his earlier deduction with Zhang Jiangke was correct.
And Gu Dingwen is very likely inside that motorhome.
Thank goodness we didn’t move to arrest him in the stairwell… Yu Dazhang exhaled in relief.
If Gu Dingwen can’t pick up the person, he’ll quickly realize the dispatched agent has been caught—and then he won’t return to the villa; he might even flee overseas directly.
But…
Yu Dazhang felt something was off.
Even if Gu Dingwen came to pick up the person, why would he come in person—especially in a motorhome? That’s far too conspicuous.
Doesn’t he fear the police are setting a long-line trap?
Or is it…
That the motorhome itself is a trap?
A trap designed to draw out the police.
A nested trap?
Very likely.
As Yu Dazhang hesitated, another voice came through the phone:
“The motorhome has driven off. What now? Should we intercept or follow?”
Hua Dui turned around immediately, glancing at the back seat.
If it were up to him, he’d naturally chase and stop the vehicle.
This opportunity must not be missed.
If we lose them, we’ll waste this rare chance.
Two armed detectives are enough to handle emergencies; even if they can’t arrest the suspect, holding them off long enough will let reinforcements arrive.
“Don’t intercept under any circumstances.”
Yu Dazhang leaned forward, speaking into the phone:
“We’re outnumbered. Intercepting now is far too risky—we don’t know what’s inside the motorhome. Just follow from a distance. Even if reinforcements arrive, do not act on your own.”
He had to issue a firm order.
One major taboo in detective work: eagerness for credit.
Very few can resist acting when the reward is right in front of them.
So Yu Dazhang had to crush that restless impulse before it took root.
Could he be misjudging them?
Never test human nature.
Behind phrases like “eagerness for credit” or “reckless ambition” lie real, documented cases.
“Hang up the phone.”
Yu Dazhang continued:
“Let them focus on their task. Report any new developments immediately.”
Hua Dui hung up and said to him:
“With just one vehicle following, the longer we trail them, the more likely they’ll suspect us.”
He still wanted the two officers to intercept the motorhome—he believed that was the safest course now.
If the suspect notices the surveillance, intercepting later won’t be so easy.
“Reinforcements are arriving soon.”
Yu Dazhang explained:
“The support team knows their phone numbers—they’ll contact them directly.”
He understood what Hua Dui was anxious about, but all he could do now was reassure him.
“Why not arrest them?” Hua Dui finally blurted out.
Yu Dazhang leaned back against the seat, replying calmly:
“Arrest who?”
“Gu Dingwen and his accomplices,” Hua Dui lowered his voice as much as possible, but his agitation was still clear: “The longer we wait, the more risks we face. I say we take them down first—this prevents them from panicking and going berserk.”
His concern wasn’t unfounded.
Now that we’ve spotted the suspect, letting him go without action is hard to justify.
He simply couldn’t understand why Yu Dazhang was holding back.
“Arrest Gu Dingwen?”
Yu Dazhang’s voice carried doubt:
“Can you be certain Gu Dingwen is inside the motorhome?”
Hua Dui fell silent at the question.
“I…” He opened his mouth, then realized he had no answer.
“I…” he opened his mouth, but found he didn’t even know how to answer.
