Chapter 367: Being a dad (8740 words, 900 monthly ticket addition!)
"Yes"
"No."
". Do you know what I want to say?"
"Whatever you say is not."
Chen Nuo was a bit speechless.
When things came to a head, he became calm instead, and closed the door behind him.
He didn't think too much about this action, nor was it to guard against anything, he just felt that for the next conversation, it was better to close the door and talk in a closed space.
He walked over slowly, weighing his words in his heart, his eyes falling on Fan Fan Binbing, carefully examining her appearance at this moment.
Her face was still exquisite, and her skin color had a soft luster during pregnancy.
The original iconic cone face became slightly rounded due to pregnancy, but this subtle roundness not only did not weaken her beauty, but softened the beauty that was once somewhat aggressive, giving her a bit more gentle and approachable temperament.
The full-curved figure was looming under the loose clothes, faintly outlining the softness and style of a mature woman.
Obviously, even though she was pregnant, the woman's beauty was still stunning, and even more increased by the radiance of motherhood, adding a few points of moving charm.
"What are you looking at? Don't recognize me because I've become ugly?"
"No..."
If it were normal times, Chen Nuo might have been able to throw out more than 300 kinds of rhetoric to take over the conversation, resolving this sudden teasing with ease.
But now, his attention was all attracted by the woman's round belly, his brain was like being poured with cement, solidified into a lump, and he couldn't find half a smart thought.
He hesitated for a long time, and finally asked: ". Is it a boy or a girl?"
". Don't know."
"Why?"
"Don't want to know in advance."
"Oh."
Looking at the indescribable expression on Fan Fan Binbing's face, Chen Nuo opened his mouth and fell silent again.
After a while.
"Is it"
"No."
It was still the same, as soon as he opened his mouth, Fan Fan Binbing immediately interrupted firmly.
Chen Nuo looked at the woman and said: "I just wanted to ask, is the due date in these two days?"
". Hmm."
"How is it arranged?"
Fan Fan Binbing was silent, and after a while, turned her head to the other side and whispered: "It's already arranged."
"Then how exactly is it arranged?"
". "
If it weren't for Lin Meiru's advance greeting, Chen Nuo really couldn't have imagined that the power of pregnancy hormones would be so great.
Turning that mature and independent strong woman into the somewhat childish girl she is now.
He slowed down his tone and said: "I don't have any other meaning, I'm just caring as a... friend, this shouldn't be a problem, right? It's impossible that you gave birth to a child and we can't even be friends anymore, this doesn't make sense no matter where you say it, right? And if you don't tell me, asking Xiao Mei is the same."
Fan Fan Binbing raised her head, looked at the ceiling and was silent for a while, before saying: "We are prepared..."
Chen Nuo frowned more and more as he listened.
However, he was not an expert in giving birth, and had no experience in this aspect at all.
Although he felt that there were many risks and improprieties in this so-called small town birth plan, he couldn't make any rash comments without a comprehensive understanding.
"What about after that? What are your plans? Take him back to China? Or stay in Canada?"
Fan Fan Binbing didn't answer, but looked at him very vigilantly.
With this, Chen Nuo finally understood what Lin Meiru meant by very sensitive and very emotional.
He thought about it, and still felt that he couldn't continue talking so vaguely, otherwise, according to Fan Fan Binbing's current appearance, communication would be too difficult.
"Bingbing, don't deny it anymore. You and I both know clearly that this child is mine..."
"Wait, listen to me first."
"Even if you say it's not now, but after the child is born, as long as you do a paternity test, everything will come to light. So it's meaningless for you to deny it. Think about it, is that so?"
Chen Nuo's voice slowed down, carrying full sincerity and honesty, "To be honest, I don't know if this is an accident or if there is another reason. But now that it has come to this, saying more about those is useless. I just want to handle this matter well with you."
He paused and continued: "I understand your current state. You are afraid that I have other ideas, afraid that I will intervene too much. But I am here, not to quarrel with you, nor to force you to admit anything. I just want to know your thoughts. Because this is not just your own business, right? The child belongs to two people, no matter if you are willing to face it or not, I am here. And, you also know clearly that you can't hide."
Fan Fan Binbing's eyes dodged slightly, but she still pursed her lips and didn't say anything.
Chen Nuo's gaze fell on her round belly, "I don't know what plans you have for this child, no matter what you decide, I respect you."
"It's just that I must know your thoughts. Otherwise, I don't even know how to cooperate with you."
"I'm not trying to interfere with you, I just want to help you share a little, that's all."
After listening to this long speech, Fan Fan Binbing was silent for a while, and finally said: "."
Lin Meiru carefully sized up the man next to her, her heart full of anxiety.
If tears were useful, she would definitely have knelt on the ground, hugged the other party's thigh and begged for mercy.
However, everyone up and down in the Huanxin company knew that President Chen was easy to talk to, President Li was very strict, and President Qi... that was a living Yama, and those who offended him basically rolled up their bedding and left.
And she this time, undoubtedly, offended President Qi to death.
Lying to his face and being exposed, like being caught in bed, just thinking about it makes her want to find a crack in the ground to drill into.
Even if he doesn't fire her for the sake of Bingbing sister later, she has to wear how many small shoes to vent his anger?
Thinking of this, Lin Meiru shivered, and decided she couldn't sit and wait for death. She quietly moved two steps closer, squeezed out a flattering smile, and whispered: "President Qi, what do you think President Chen and Bingbing sister are talking about inside?"
Qi Yuntian glanced at her and said lightly: "What do you think?"
Lin Meiru really wanted to slap herself, this topic was too awkward. She bit the bullet and laughed twice, and tried to pick up the conversation: "I hope President Chen and Bingbing sister can talk well. Otherwise, Bingbing sister is really too pitiful."
"Is anyone forcing her to do this?"
Qi Yuntian's voice floated over coldly, Lin Meiru was just sighing casually, didn't expect him to pick up the conversation like this.
Listening to that temperatureless tone, her anger suddenly rushed up, and she forgot who the other party was, and immediately retorted: "But she is a woman pregnant, do you think it's easy? It's been so long, you didn't even have a greeting, didn't make a phone call on holidays or birthdays, don't you think it's a bit too much?"
As soon as the words came out, Lin Meiru realized that her tone was a bit aggressive, and her heart tightened, peeking at Qi Yuntian, fearing that he would coldly retort again.
However, he didn't.
It wasn't because of anything else, but a bald white fat man suddenly walked over under the street lamp on the side of the road.
As soon as the fat man saw them, he grinned and waved: "Qi! My God, I didn't expect you to know each other! I heard Ellen mention it and didn't dare to believe it, what a coincidence! I came over to see if there is anything I can help with?"
Lin Meiru recognized this fat man, the American tycoon living next door, who would hold parties at home every few days, which would attract many reporters and paparazzi like flies, so she had no good impression of this person at all.
Of course, the other party didn't have any for them either.
Usually meeting occasionally, it was a racist face, cold, not even a smile, when did he laugh so heartily?
After chatting for a few sentences, she understood why President Chen and President Qi suddenly appeared.
It turned out to be such a coincidence.
Lin Meiru couldn't help but sigh in her heart, perhaps God couldn't bear to let Bingbing sister, such a good person, give birth to a child alone.
At this time, the mansion door opened, Chen Nuo stood at the door, looked at her and said: "You guys come in."
Chen Nuo's face was not good, and his mood was also heavy.
Even he himself couldn't figure out why.
He greeted absent-mindedly, turned and returned to the house, and sat back on the sofa.
Waiting for Lin Meiru to walk over, he squeezed out a smile and said: "Xiao Mei, I have talked clearly with your Bingbing sister. She said that the arrangement for where to give birth is arranged by you, but I heard your plan just now, and there are some problems, can you explain it?"
Lin Meiru "ah" and said a little cautiously: "Okay, President Chen, you ask."
Next, Chen Nuo said the doubts in his heart. Listening to Lin Meiru's stumbling answers, he finally understood what was going on.
It's not that there is no better solution, it's just that reality is full of helplessness...
Chen Nuo sighed secretly, he didn't want to blame anyone.
During this period of time, it can be seen that Fan Fan Binbing is deeply tortured by pregnancy hormones, her emotional fluctuations are extremely large, and her whole person seems to have changed, the capable and independent her on weekdays, now is tossed by pregnancy reactions and dizzy, and has no time to take care of things like reserving budget.
Look at Lin Meiru again, this girl is loyal to Fan Fan Binbing.
However, her ability is really limited. No matter how capable she is, she is just an assistant. Daily work is already heavy, she has to stare at various affairs in the company during the day, and rush over to act as a companion at night, under such high-intensity busyness, she has neither extra energy nor enough opinion to plan long-term financial plans.
In this way, falling into the embarrassing situation of not being able to raise even hundreds of thousands of Canadian dollars now, although a bit unexpected, is reasonable.
Fan Fan Binbing sat on the side and said: "
"Alright, stop with the 'actually's. According to what we just agreed on, you listen to me now," Chen Nuo said.
Fan Fan Binbing was stunned.
In an instant, her heart felt as if a spice rack had been overturned, a complex mix of emotions swirling within.
Looking back over the past six months, she had handled everything herself, her style always bold and decisive, holding onto a streak of stubborn independence; whatever she set her mind to, she would carry out with lightning speed.
Even as her pregnancy progressed and her belly became increasingly prominent, forcing her to stay confined at home and manage company affairs remotely via phone and computer, the company had still thrived under her control, with all operations running like clockwork.
If not for the extreme emotional fluctuations during pregnancy and a momentary lapse in judgment that led her to neglect the crucial step of setting aside extra cash, she would have been quite satisfied with her performance in all other respects.
Upon careful reflection, giving her work results an 85 was entirely well-deserved and not an exaggeration in the slightest.
Precisely because she had sailed through everything relying on her own abilities and was accustomed to leading, Chen Nuo's demand that she obediently follow his instructions left Fan Fan Binbing feeling momentarily unable to adapt, with a sense of resistance and awkwardness in her heart.
However, the moment Chen Nuo stood firmly before her and told her to be quiet, a wondrous change quietly took root and sprouted in her heart.
Previously, when she was trapped alone in this vast, cold house, that sense of helplessness that clung to her like a shadow and seeped into her bones vanished completely, leaving no trace, just like morning mist meeting the blazing sun.
Replacing it was a long-lost, indescribable warmth and peace of mind.
The feeling was like that of a traveler who had wandered alone through a long, cold night and finally found a companion.
One hand tightly gripped another.
This hand, carrying a searing warmth, gave her strength, dispelled the loneliness and helplessness lingering around her, and after countless days and nights of waiting and holding on, made her truly feel the existence of someone to lean on.
Chen Nuo did not notice Fan Fan Binbing's expression, because upon learning that the due date was actually just three days away, he truly felt a sense of urgency to race against time: "Xiao Mei, you said you had contacted the best private medical service company around here before, right?"
"Yes, Chen Zong."
"Then call them now and have them send the best team over tonight."
"Okay."
Lin Meiru agreed without a second thought and picked up her phone to start dialing.
If it were someone else, she might have asked about the cost, but in front of Chen Nuo, that thought didn't even cross her mind.
She wasn't deaf or blind.
When *The Hollywood Reporter* came out the week before last, Twitter's trending topics exploded, with the top entry being "New Contract."
Whose contract?
Naturally, it was the man who had single-handedly taken on Hollywood film studios and won.
Lin Meiru didn't know if Chen Nuo himself was aware, but in any case, the internet in the United States and Canada had been buzzing for days, with Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube filled with related news.
It could be said that this contract renewal had received unprecedented attention from the masses.
Analysts all said that such a situation might never happen again.
Because there were so many factors involved, it was almost impossible to replicate. Beyond the massive funds, the globally popular IP, and the drama of proving his innocence after being wronged, there was also a strong sense of individual heroism.
One man standing up to capital, actually forcing the opposing CEO to step down and sign a humiliating treaty, not only made the numerous *Twilight* fans on FB celebrate, believing it to be their own victory,
but also sent countless media outlets and gossip reporters into a frenzy, all speculating on exactly how much this final new contract of his was worth.
Although no one knew the specific figure, it was the current industry consensus in Hollywood that it far exceeded the 120 million dollars of the previous two.
Therefore, Lin Meiru felt there was absolutely no need to mention the word "money" to such a person; that would be insulting Chen Zong.
The phone rang only twice before it was answered.
"Hello, this is Kara Moore from Toronto PrimeMed. Who is this, please?"
Lin Meiru also spoke in English: "Hello, Manager Moore, this is Carol Lin. I contacted you last time; do you remember?"
"Carol Lin... Oh, I remember you." The voice coming through the speakerphone was lazy, tinged with a sense of superiority that made Chen Nuo frown slightly upon hearing it. "... Didn't you say you'd consider it last time? What, did you save up enough money?"
Lin Meiru replied somewhat awkwardly: "Yes... I wanted to ask how much your top-tier home obstetric service costs?"
"Hahahaha, top-tier? Why are you asking about that? Believe me, that number would scare you to death, Ms. Lin. I suggest you be realistic, okay? That package I mentioned to you before is so cost-effective, economical, and very suitable for you people."
"No, I don't want that one. I want to know what your best one is like."
"Hey, listen to me, Ms. Lin, I don't have time to mess around with you, okay? Just tell me straight, what exactly do you want to do?"
"I don't want to do anything, I just want to..."
"Stop. Don't even think about it. I said, if you didn't understand, I'll say it again: that price isn't something you can afford. Or to put it bluntly, you can't even pay the deposit with that little money of yours, so stop wasting my time here."
Chen Nuo's brow furrowed tighter and tighter. Since it was inconvenient for him to step forward, he was wondering whether to have Lin Meiru hand the phone to Qi Yuntian, or just hang up and find another one.
At this moment, a voice suddenly said from the side: "Excuse me, miss, could you let me have a word with him?"
Chen Nuo turned his head and only then noticed that an uninvited guest had appeared in the room at some point.
Why was James Pritzker here? When did he come in?
Chen Nuo had been preoccupied with other things and truly hadn't noticed.
Fortunately, he and Xiao Mei had been speaking Chinese the whole time, so this guy must not have understood anything. He had actually been very patient, staying silently to the side until he spoke up just now for this call.
Chen Nuo couldn't be bothered to care what James was thinking now. In any case, having this local semi-power player handle this kind of thing was definitely better than Lin Meiru.
He nodded immediately: "Give it to him."
Lin Meiru handed over the phone. James took it, first nodding politely at Lin Meiru and even smiling as he said "Thank you."
But the next second, his expression darkened, and he said coldly into the phone: "Listen, I am James Pritzker. Get your supervisor on the phone now. Immediately, right now."
"Whaaaat? Who did you say you are?" Kara's voice came through the speaker, clearly stunned for a moment.
"James Pritzker," the fatty said, enunciating every word.
"James Pri, Pri..." Kara stuttered twice, then suddenly softened his tone: "Okay, I'm sorry, I'll put my supervisor on the phone right away."
There was silence on the other end for a few seconds, followed by a muffled male voice: "Hi, I'm Supervisor Moore. I'm very sorry, Mr. Pritzker, is there something I can help you with? Oh, do you want me to kiss your ass, Mr. Pritzker? Hahaha!"
Amidst the laughter, everyone realized that this so-called supervisor was actually the same Kara Moore from before.
The rampant laughter from the speaker echoed through the living room.
To be honest, at this moment, Chen Nuo felt so embarrassed for James that his toes were curling inside his shoes.
This was a textbook case of trying to act cool and ending up looking like a fool.
Seeing James's face turn purple-red, as if he were about to explode on the spot, Chen Nuo quickly tried to smooth things over, cleared his throat, and coughed as if he didn't care: "James, thank you for your kindness, hang up the phone. We can absolutely find another one."
But the person on the other end hadn't stopped yet. Kara was still shouting in that ridiculous tone: "Hello, Mr. James Pritzker, are you still there? Sorry, just a joke. I don't know you; I only know Barack Obama. So, is there something, Mr. Pritzker? Haha, Pritzker~ can you tell me how to spell that last name? I'm a bit..."
Uh oh. This kind of blatant disrespect... Chen Nuo looked at James Pritzker's face, which was as dark as water, and didn't know what to say.
At this moment, a vague female voice suddenly came through the speaker, sounding surprised: "Kara, who are you talking to? What Pritzker?"
"Oh, Deborah, it's some guy named James Pritzker who thinks he's some big shot. I'm just messing with him."
"Who did you say? James Pritzker?" The female voice's pitch suddenly shot up.
"Yeah, what's wrong?"
There was silence on the other end for a while, and then the female voice became clear: "I'm Deborah White, the operations manager at Top Medical. Mr. Pritzker, is that you? I am so sorry! Kara had no idea; he just transferred here a few days ago..."
Before she could finish, James hung up the phone directly.
It seemed the man still had some pride.
The fatty revealed a smile that was uglier than crying and said: "I'm sorry, Chen, and ladies. Please rest assured, I will definitely find the best medical team in all of Toronto. All expenses are on me. Now, please excuse me for a moment, I need to go out and handle something, sorry."
After saying this, the bald fatty walked out quickly.
Leaving the few Chinese people looking at each other in dismay.
Fan Fan Binbing asked: "Chen Nuo, who is this person? Does he have a lot of connections?"
Chen Nuo said: "A director. Connections... *cough*, I don't know either. Let's wait and see."
The result of "waiting and seeing" was that even though they didn't know who James had gone to find or what he had said, just 4 or 5 minutes later, a call came to Lin Meiru's phone.
This time it wasn't Kara, nor Deborah, but a man named Evans Schroeder, who claimed on the phone to be the CEO and Chairman of this top medical company.
It was unclear if it was true, because his attitude was perhaps 18,000 times better than that manager named Kara.
Not a word was said about money. After clarifying the due date and home-visit requirements Lin Meiru had mentioned, within just one hour, a black Lincoln Navigator was parked in front of the door.
And this was at 10:30 PM in Canada!
This efficiency could be called cosmic-level.
Inside the car was a six-person team.
One of them was a lawyer, and the other five included a very rare female obstetrician, two midwifery nurses, a neonatologist, and a logistics coordinator.
After Lin Meiru stepped forward to sign the confidentiality agreement, the medical team went straight into the house to start working.
They were clearly professionals, with all kinds of portable medical equipment fully stocked. In less than an hour, the basement was converted into a sterile zone, equipped with mobile UV disinfection lamps, a delivery bed, and surgical trays—it was practically a small hospital.
It was fortunate they did so, because although Fan Fan Binbing's due date was supposed to be in three days, the obstetrician examined her condition and immediately judged that the due date had moved up; she might give birth tonight.
As it turned out, less than half an hour later, her water broke.
At that time, Chen Nuo was still in the backyard chatting with James Pritzker about what had just happened.
"I've already sent that pig on his way."
Facing Chen Nuo's stunned expression, James laughed: "Not what you're thinking. It's resignation. I had Evans fire him. Actually, Evans is a good friend of mine. I didn't expect their company's business manager to be so amateurish; it really disappointed me. But fortunately, it's resolved now."
"I've already had people send Ellen and the others back. It looks like you can't spare any attention for them right now, right?" James winked at Chen Nuo.
Chen Nuo couldn't help but smile bitterly: "It's not what you think... but still, thank you, James. Honestly, if it weren't for you this time, I might have had a huge regret."
James laughed: "I'm glad to hear you say that. So, you owe me a favor now, right?"
"Yes, you could say that."
"By the way, my short film premieres tomorrow. Chen, can you still go?"
Chen Nuo shook his head directly: "As of now, I don't think I can make it. I'm very sorry."
"I knew it... Oh, shit, it's raining. How about we go hide in that gazebo for a while?"
"Okay."
Cool rain slanted down. Late November in Toronto was the tail end of late autumn. The night rain wasn't heavy, but it carried a bone-chilling cold, and the lawn outside the gazebo was covered in a thin mist.
The two stood in the pavilion, continuing to chat.
"Chen, I wanted to ask if you have any availability recently?"
"When?"
"Just recently, anytime is fine. About two months. Here's the thing: I have a film—not a short film, but a real movie. The script is fantastic, and I want to invite you to be my male lead..."
Then, before the fatty could finish his sentence, Lin Meiru rushed out of the house and shouted from the lawn.
Male lead, supporting actor, movie, script—none of it mattered anymore, none of it was worth a shred of attention.
In that instant, Chen Nuo felt the whole world spinning, everything around him losing focus in a flash. His mind went blank; movies, money, everything was cast to the winds.
Almost without hesitation, the next second, he charged toward the house through the rain. The rain hit his face, blurring his vision. His footsteps landed on the waterlogged grass, splashing high and soaking his pant legs.
But he was completely unaware of it.
There was only one thought in his mind—he was going to be a father.
Just as Chen Nuo rushed indoors, less than 50 meters away in a straight line, Aaron was also shielding his camera and running quickly from the bushes back to the Chevrolet parked on the side of the road.
"Fuck, you finally came. Why so late?"
"I took a detour. I was afraid of being seen by Chen's bodyguard."
Then Jeffrey stepped on the gas, and the car began to pull away in the rain.
"Did you get the shot?" Jeffrey said impatiently.
Aaron sighed, his face full of regret: "Didn't get the woman inside. In the afternoon, I only caught a few shots of Nuo Chen standing at the door. Just missed it. When he first went in, I saw a woman inside with a big belly, standing right there. But just as I was about to press the shutter, he slammed the door shut."
"Fuck! Fuck!" Jeffrey slammed the steering wheel several times.
"Jeffrey, that woman is about to give birth. I saw several doctors and nurses go in earlier. But it was too dark, and I was too far away, so I didn't get anything. Besides, at that time, that Chinese bodyguard was standing on the side of the road very vigilantly, and I was afraid he'd spot me, so I didn't get close."
Jeffrey was even angrier when he heard this: "Damn it, these rich people! Looks like she's giving birth at home and not going to the hospital. If she had just come out, we could have followed... Damn it, damn it!"
"So what now? If she gives birth, are we out of luck?"
"Of course. Once she gives birth, even if they stand together, so what? They were already... Wait, hold on. Let me think. You said you got a photo of Chen standing at the door? Him and who?"
"After 6 PM, he and a man went to find the woman living with Fan."
"And then?"
"Then they stood and talked for a while, and then Chen went into the house. Oh right, that woman was carrying a plastic bag with some diapers and baby stuff in it."
"Diapers!!!" Jeffrey shouted suddenly, "Are you serious?"
"Of course. The bag dropped on the ground at the time, and I took a picture. Do you want to see it?"
"I want to see it, I'm looking at it right fucking now!"
The Chevrolet screeched to a halt on the side of the road. With the wipers still swishing away the water, Jeffrey snatched the SLR camera from Aaron and stared at the display screen, flipping through the photos.
Aaron leaned over: "How is it? Any good?"
Jeffrey squinted: "Although I didn't get the most critical shot, look at this one—Chen standing at the door, the woman looking back, and these baby supplies at her feet. I think this is enough to raise suspicions. The most critical thing is, why did he go to this house? He has no reason to; he doesn't live there. The only reason is that he has a pregnant mistress inside, right? That's easy to figure out. However... I think we need to change our plan."
"Change how?"
"I used to want to sell some hot scoops to reporters, but with this material, I don't think it'll sell for a high price. So, we need to talk to Chen first and see if he's willing to spend some money to keep this quiet."
Aaron slapped his thigh: "Right! He's so rich, if he just gives us a little, we'll be set!"
"Exactly. It just depends on whether he's willing to part with it. It just so happens that his agent left me his number before, so I'll ask him about it." Jeffrey laughed and threw the camera back into Aaron's arms.
Chen Nuo didn't know that he had fallen into the trap of Jeffrey, this second-generation immigrant, and had become a target for his wallet.
At this moment, his heart and eyes were filled only with Fan Fan Binbing in the basement delivery room.
Chen Nuo had the most vivid and unforgettable experience of what it meant for days to feel like years.
Even when Qi Yuntian brought the phone over, saying that the paparazzi from before had sent him a text message and he felt they were being blackmailed, Chen Nuo didn't take it to heart and told Qi Yuntian to handle it himself first.
Fan Fan Binbing entered the delivery room at 11 PM. Her water had broken, and the doctor said she could give birth at any time.
As it turned out, it wasn't until 6:32 AM the next day that a clear cry finally came from the basement.
Chen Nuo stood up straight abruptly, rushed to the stairs, held onto the railing, and waited impatiently.
Just like before, when Fan Fan Binbing told him the child would be born in Canada and automatically have Canadian citizenship until age 18, so there was no need for a father to register the household, and the child was hers and wouldn't take his surname—he didn't know why, but he didn't feel relieved; instead, he felt a strange, inexplicable discomfort.
It was the same now.
He also couldn't figure out why he was so expectant, so full of longing, that he hadn't closed his eyes for a single minute the entire night.
Finally, a figure in a white coat appeared from the corner of the stairs. It was the female obstetrician in her 40s.
She lifted her mask and smiled slightly: "Mr. Chen, congratulations, it's a girl. Both the baby and the mother are in great condition."
Chen Nuo's brain buzzed, his throat feeling as if it were blocked by something, dry and tight. He asked hurriedly: "Can I see them?"
The doctor nodded: "Yes, but wait two minutes. We just cleaned up the newborn and are swaddling her; we'll bring her up in a moment. You can't enter the delivery room yet; Ms. Fan is still dealing with some follow-up procedures, so you'll have to wait about fifteen minutes."
"Oh," Chen Nuo replied blankly, his hands gripping the railing so hard his knuckles turned white.
A voice echoed incessantly in his heart:
A daughter, it's a daughter. He has a daughter!
