Chapter 592
Although in their usual view, this was a location reachable in an instant.
But now it had become a distance like an impassable chasm.
It was not easy to reach there quickly.
Luo En said.
"Our chances right now are extremely limited; we must give it everything we've got."
After saying this, he steadied his mind and swiftly used his broken blade to drive back the tentacles on either side.
Then he kicked off hard with both feet, shooting forward like an arrow leaving the bowstring.
And Taiichiro closely followed behind Ron.
But his stamina was clearly lacking; at such a speed he simply couldn't maintain it for very long.
Halfway there, his pace grew slower and slower.
Ron noticed this and said,
"Don't lose heart. You must keep your spirits up; we can definitely make it there."
After saying that, Ron grabbed Taiichiro in one swift motion.
Carrying both his own weight and Taiichiro's, Ron began to run short on stamina.
As a result, his speed dropped several times compared to before.
Yet the tentacles were speeding up more and more.
Just as the target was within sight, several tentacles suddenly shot over from the side at high speed.
In an instant they wrapped around Ron.
Ron moved quickly, bringing his broken blade down hard on the tentacles.
But the tentacles were completely unfazed, as if his broken blade couldn't inflict any damage on them at all.
When the broken blade struck the head of one of the tentacles, a shower of sparks actually burst out.
Yet the tentacle remained completely unharmed.
Ron froze for a moment, utterly shocked.
He knew that before, a single slash from him was enough to cleave these tentacles in two.
But now this slash of his seemed to have no effect at all.
The tentacle lunged forward again and bit down hard on Ron's thigh.
Ron felt a sharp stab of pain, and then the blood inside him began to churn and surge toward the tentacle's mouth.
Ron knew that if he didn't deal with this tentacle quickly, his blood would soon be drained completely.
At that moment, several more tentacles rushed over from the side.
Ron steeled himself, gritted his teeth, and brought his broken blade down hard.
He wanted to hack the tentacle apart.
But the tentacle didn't dodge or evade at all; Ron's broken blade struck it directly.
With a burst of sparks, the creature remained completely unharmed.
A chill ran through Ron's heart; he knew these tentacles had grown far stronger than before.
Perhaps it was because his own strength had grown weaker.
In any case, dealing with these tentacles wasn't going to be easy now.
Still, Ron didn't lose heart or give in to despair.
He glanced at Taiichiro, then slashed his broken blade across his own thigh.
He carved off a chunk of flesh in one cut.
Taiichiro watched this and was secretly horrified.
If it had been him, he probably couldn't have brought himself to do it.
Ron let out a muffled grunt; the intense pain made his head spin.
Fortunately, he forced himself to keep going.
Even so, he could feel cold sweat pouring out of him.
"Can you really manage like this?"
Taiichiro asked with some concern as he looked at Ron; he could sense Ron's pain.
Ron shook his head and said,
"Things have come to this; we have no other choice. This is the only way."
After saying that, he grabbed Taiichiro again, and the two of them raced toward their destination at top speed.
However, that swarm of tentacles had no intention of letting them off so easily.
The tentacles' speed surged up yet another notch.
Ron heard the sound of something cutting through the air behind him and knew the tentacles had already caught up.
"Throw me out."
Taiichiro suddenly said.
Ron glanced at Taiichiro in surprise.
"How could I possibly do that? Don't ever say something like that again."
But Taiichiro shook his head.
"I have no hope of surviving right now.
If we keep going like this, neither of us will escape.
You'd better throw me out to face them; maybe I can block some of the attacks for you.
"By then, you'll also have a chance to escape."
Luo En said.
"The reason we've been able to survive all this time is because we've always helped each other."
"If I abandon you now, then even if I run out alone, I could never survive."
As he spoke, Luo En increased his speed again.
The tentacles behind them seemed to move faster than before.
Luo En felt a sense of crisis rise spontaneously in his heart.
He knew this sense of crisis came from his instinct.
Under this sense of crisis, he had to make himself faster.
"It's no use— if we keep going like this, we'll never escape."
Taiyaro urgently said to Luo En.
"Meeting you has been the greatest luck of my life."
"But you can see the situation we're in now."
"If we don't make a choice, no one can escape."
After saying this, he turned and glanced back at the swarm of tentacles rushing toward them.
He said calmly.
"Throw me toward them—I can hold them off."
Luo En knew that once Taiyaro plunged into the cluster of tentacles, he would surely die.
The tentacles' attacks were extremely powerful.
And their defense was now astonishingly strong.
Even Luo En's full-force strike could not completely kill them.
With such strength, Taiyaro couldn't stand against even one of them—going meant certain death.
Taiyaro looked back at the swarm of tentacles behind him; he knew he had no choice left.
If he wanted Luo En to live, he himself must make the sacrifice.
The tentacles were about to catch up to them, yet their destination still lay some distance ahead.
Taiyaro knew they could not reach that distance in such a short time.
And then they would surely be attacked by the tentacles.
Taiyaro said.
"Put me down quickly."
Luo En said, "As long as there's even a glimmer of hope, we must not give up."
