Chapter 669
Luo En said.
"The energy you released is nearly identical to that one—what more is there to deny? This must be your doing."
The shadow shook its head vigorously and said.
"I have never killed any life. I came here today only to demonstrate my speed, but I never expected to be chased by you. Why did you ambush me?"
Luo En stared at the shadow; the figure looked like a mere child, utterly incapable of having committed such a heinous act.
The girl beside him was also astonished, for the person she had imagined was nothing like this. She said.
"You claim you were demonstrating your speed, yet why did you flee in panic the moment you saw us?"
The shadow sighed helplessly and said.
"I've been running on this path the whole time—I never saw you. It was you who kept chasing me."
"Out of fear, I kept accelerating, but I never expected you to catch up. If you hadn't ambushed me, you never would have caught me."
Luo En admitted this much—if he hadn't attacked first, he could never have caught up to the boy with his speed alone.
But what Luo En cared about now wasn't that—he immediately seized the shadow by the collar.
"What really happened here? I want you to answer me honestly, or I'll make you regret it."
As he spoke, a terrifying mass of energy coalesced in his hand.
The shadow stared at the energy in Luo En's hand and was inwardly startled—he could feel that this energy brimmed with lethal force; if it were unleashed upon him, he was certain he couldn't withstand it.
"What do you want me to say?"
He struggled to say.
"I haven't done anything."
Luo En dragged the shadow straight to the site of the corpses and pointed to the bodies scattered on the ground.
"Didn't you do this?"
The shadow looked at the corpses and turned pale—he was clearly terrified. He said.
"I didn't do this. I have nothing to do with this."
Luo En said.
"But can you sense the energy on these bodies? It's nearly identical to yours."
The shadow could indeed sense that energy. He looked up at Luo En.
"But I swear to you—I didn't do this. I could never kill so many lives."
Luo En carefully sensed the energy on the shadow. This energy was indeed nearly identical to that on the corpses; upon close analysis, it was clear they shared the same origin—likely from the same source. Luo En became even more certain that the shadow was the culprit.
The girl beside him could also sense this energy. Everyone knew this energy must have come from the boy before them.
She suddenly spoke to Luo En.
"But would the culprit be this foolish? To let us find the source of this energy so quickly? If so, he'd be incredibly stupid. Yet our investigations over this period show the real perpetrator is extremely cunning, and his actions are far more complex than this."
Luo En frowned tightly.
"You mean we've wronged him?"
The girl said.
"I can't jump to conclusions yet, but one thing is certain—this matter isn't as simple as we thought. There must be hidden motives, and he may just be a pawn sacrificed by the real culprit."
Luo En looked at the boy. The boy's face was full of innocence, his expression tense as he watched the two.
Luo En said.
"If you didn't do this, then explain what this energy is."
The boy stared at the energy and shook his head. To him, the energy was indeed identical to his own—but he was certain he hadn't done it.
He said.
"Maybe someone is imitating my energy."
Luo En laughed.
"How is that possible? Every person's energy is unique. You might mimic it, but you could never replicate it perfectly."
The girl whispered softly.
"But we can't be absolute about it. Maybe someone truly can. Still, unless you can find proof of your innocence, you can't prove it."
The boy quickly shook his head and said.
"I'll find a way to prove my innocence."
Now the case had stalled again. Luo En knew that if he didn't resolve this quickly, things would only grow worse.
And it was clear the opponent was already beginning to tighten his net, gathering everyone connected to this matter.
Luo En didn't know whether this was good or bad, but one thing he was certain of—the opponent had decided to strike at them.
Luo En turned to the girl.
"I want us to accelerate our search around here. It's clear the opponent is growing impatient."
"The boy's appearance may be a signal. We must resolve this matter quickly."
The girl nodded. During her time interacting with the people, she had sensed they were different from what she'd imagined—and she had grown attached to them.
But now seeing them dead, she was deeply torn inside. She desperately wanted to find the killer, yet so far they had made no progress.
The girl said.
"If this person truly intends to strike at us, then what is his purpose in all this?"
Luo En shook his head. He knew nothing about the opponent—not even his identity. But one thing he was certain of:
The opponent's power was terrifying, capable of evading their searches effortlessly.
And to manipulate energy to this degree—rare across the entire world. Why would such a powerful being target ordinary people? Luo En couldn't understand.
After returning to the castle, the girl immediately ordered the cursed ones to patrol everywhere, and they sped up their efforts—but still, they found nothing substantial.
Luo En once again arrived at the place where Taiyilang was imprisoned.
Taiyilang now appeared extremely calm; he no longer acted as violently as before. He gazed at Luo En and spoke softly.
"How has the matter progressed?"
