"If you don’t have that kind of money then get lost. I’m telling you, I’ll definitely sell it for this price in the next few days, you’ll regret it to death." The fat man pointed at the couple across from him who were here to see the house, pushing at them to hurry them away.

"What would I regret? There are plenty of houses out there, I don’t need your damn place. It’s not that I don’t have money, even if I did I wouldn’t buy your house." The medium‑built man yanked hard at the fat man beside him.

The fat man was clumsy, and with that one yank he was pulled straight down to the ground. Now he wasn’t having it; his family members on the side rushed up and punched the medium‑built man.

With that, the two families started fighting because they couldn’t close the deal on a house.

The medium‑built man only had a woman with him, while the fat man had brought two other men. Once they started fighting they were no match at all. The outcome could be imagined.

"Stop fighting, I beg you, stop fighting. We know we were wrong, just stop now, we’ll leave right away." The woman with the medium‑built man was frantic beside them, unable to get close; whenever she tried to go in she was shoved to the ground. Her man was getting beaten badly.

"Xiao Wan, have you noticed that woman’s back looks kind of familiar?" Su Ling narrowed her eyes at the melee in front and tugged on Lin Wan’s sleeve.

Pei Bai chimed in on the side, "Yeah, I feel like I’ve seen her somewhere. Could she be from our town?" Pei Bai thought they’d run into a fellow townsman or something.

The woman had her back to them; Lin Wan really couldn’t see clearly, but she also felt she looked familiar.

"No..." Lin Wan was just about to say she hadn’t seen her before when the woman suddenly turned around, startling all three of them.

Su Ling’s mouth dropped open; she almost cried out, then quickly covered it and said, "Xiao Wan, how did that cousin of yours suddenly show up here? And the one getting beaten is your cousin‑in‑law, right? Should we go help?"

Lin Wan was also very surprised; she hadn’t expected to run into Zhang Dandan here. But when Lin Wan looked at the man she immediately frowned and said, "That’s not Zhang Dandan’s husband. Her husband works at the grain and oil station in our town, and he’s tall and skinny. This guy is obviously the wrong height."

"Huh, did your cousin get divorced?" Pei Bai had an idea, but was embarrassed to say it outright.

Her son’s already pretty big now. There’s not a soul in town who doesn’t know about her. If she goes back now, everyone will be out for her blood. All the neighbors on the street are on her husband’s side."

"It’s been so many years and even all the neighbors know. Her husband’s really been swallowing his anger. If it were me, I’d beat her till she behaved." Su Ling ground her teeth at the sight of Zhang Dandan; to this day she still held a grudge over what Zhang Dandan had done.

"I’m not too clear on it either. I just heard from my family that he hits her often. Every time Zhang Dandan comes home, her husband beats her especially hard. She just doesn’t learn; she still keeps running off. I figure that man can’t bear for his kid to be without a mother, so he’s been dragging it out like this. These past years Zhang Dandan has run off and come back, come back and run off again—no one even knows how many times. It’s become routine."

"She deserves a beating, but I’ve really never seen anyone like her. Gets beaten that badly and still won’t behave. If she likes fooling around with that guy so much, she might as well get a divorce and just live with him, wouldn’t that be simpler?" As a man, Hu Dong didn’t overthink it.

"That man’s obviously married. His family definitely doesn’t want a divorce. Either that, or he just wants the thrill and is only playing with her."

"If it were me, I’d do the same. There’s not a good one between those two." Su Ling said, then she smiled at the few of them, lifted her chin with a smug little grin. "Just watch me."

Then she walked up to the owner and said, "Brother, you’re selling this place?"

The owner immediately pulled his attention away from the fight. They were here to sell the house today, not to wrestle with some deadbeats. Seeing Su Ling, he quickly put on a smile and said, "Yeah, this place is a fixed price, eighteen thousand. Don’t mind the shabby courtyard; once you fix it up, there’s no problem living here at all. Around here, for a house like this, this price is already on the low side. If you don’t believe me, you can go ask around. I’d never rip anyone off."
