Chapter 864: A Sleeve
So, Wang An really couldn't think of anyone else who would fire blindly like that idiot Li Biao.
The reason Wang An thought this was because that idiot Li Biao had a prior record.
Upon hearing Li Biao's shout, Wang An and Wang Li stood up from the ground. Wang Li said with a look of disgust,
"Damn it, how could we run into this idiot in such a huge mountain?"
Wang An also clicked his tongue and said,
"Yeah, really bad luck."
It wasn't just that Li Biao was annoying; it was that his blind firing had nearly sent Wang An and Wang Li to their graves.
Who wouldn't be angry about something like that?
Soon, Li Biao and Li Mu walked out from the woods.
It had to be admitted that although Li Biao was a piece of work, Li Mu was actually a decent guy.
Seeing the two of them, Li Mu immediately said with a face full of apology,
"Did you two get hit? Look at this mess, I'm really sorry."
As soon as Li Mu finished, Li Biao said with some dissatisfaction,
"We agreed to fire a warning shot, so why didn't you guys fire?"
Wang An was stunned; he hadn't expected Li Biao to come out with such a statement.
Fortunately, Li Mu was sensible. Before Wang An could start cursing, he turned and shouted at Li Biao,
"Shut your mouth! Is a gun something you just fire randomly? In that situation just now, if they had returned fire, that big boar would have charged straight at us upon hearing the shots. With your marksmanship, could you have killed it?"
In fact, this was the very reason Wang An hadn't fired a shot until then.
Wild animals get spooked by gunfire, and what a spooked animal will do is anyone's guess.
If it were a deer or a roe deer, it wouldn't be a big deal, as they would just run away and pose no threat to humans.
But if it were a big boar or a black bear, the gunfire might just enrage them.
If they were enraged, they might charge at whoever they saw, and if the people couldn't take them down in time, the consequences would be dire.
It was worth noting that the testicle Li Biao had lost was bitten off by a boar's tusk.
Hearing Li Mu say this, Wang An's first reaction was that Li Biao was truly heartless.
Of course, it was also possible that because he had lost a testicle to a boar, Li Biao held an unquenchable hatred for all boars.
Li Biao, seeing Li Mu say this, wore an indignant expression and said to Li Mu,
"If you knew I couldn't hit it, why didn't you fire?"
Unexpectedly, Li Biao had fired so many shots without hitting the boar, yet now he was blaming Li Mu.
Li Mu pointed at the 16-gauge shotgun in his hand and said irritably,
"You have the nerve to ask why I didn't fire? This piece-of-junk gun of yours jams at the critical moment every time; it nearly blew up in my face, do you know that?"
Immediately after, Li Mu handed the shotgun to Li Biao and said impatiently,
"Give me back my gun. You didn't hit a single target with ten rounds; with your marksmanship, you're good for nothing."
For some reason, even though Li Biao's marksmanship was truly terrible, he never bothered to practice, and instead, he loved firing randomly.
Hearing Li Mu say this, Li Biao immediately changed his attitude and said fawningly,
"Don't be like that, Second Brother. Let me shoot a little longer. I've just found my rhythm; if we run into another boar, I'll definitely take it down in one shot."
Li Mu insisted on getting the gun back, saying very dissatisfied,
"No way. I'll never trust you again. Ten rounds and not a single hit, someone like you..."
Just like that, the two brothers ignored Wang An and Wang Li and started bickering.
Wang An watched this scene with a speechless expression, feeling quite sorry for Li Mu. It had to be said that having a cousin like Li Biao was truly a stroke of bad luck.
So, Wang An tugged on Wang Li's sleeve, gave him a look, and turned to lead the way.
There was no point in arguing with a blockhead like Li Biao; Wang An couldn't be bothered to deal with him and preferred to stay as far away as possible to avoid the annoyance.
Even after Wang An and Wang Li had walked quite a distance, they could still hear the two brothers arguing.
After this delay, Wang An checked his watch and saw it was nearly 12:00 PM, so he said to Wang Li,
"Forget it, let's stop looking for now and find a place to eat."
Wang Li asked, somewhat puzzled,
"Fourth Brother, isn't it the same wherever we eat? Why do we have to find a specific spot?"
Wang An shot Wang Li a sideways glance and said,
"Those pancakes are dry; what if we choke? We need to find some water to drink, don't we?"
Wang Li blinked his large eyes and said,
"That's true. It's been so long since I ate pancakes, I forgot."
The two of them dug up some wild garlic while wandering around looking for a water source. Soon, they found a pond at the foot of a rocky hill.
However, they didn't drink from the pond; instead, they walked further up the slope toward the stream, stopping only when they found the spring where the water bubbled out.
They washed the wild garlic in the water, took out their pancakes, rolled them into tubes, and started chewing.
It had to be said, a bite of pancake with a bite of salted vegetable and a bite of wild garlic made for a pretty decent meal.
While eating, Wang An said,
"These salted vegetables are still lacking something; it would be great if we had some soybean paste."
Wang Li blinked several times, then had a sudden flash of inspiration and said,
"Fourth Brother, next time we come into the mountains, if we're having this kind of food, I guarantee I can get you some soybean paste."
Wang An smiled and said,
"Don't tell me you're going to bring a glass jar; that thing is too heavy and a pain to carry, I would have brought it myself if it were easy."
But Wang Li smiled mysteriously and said,
"Not that. I was thinking of drying the soybean paste into blocks, and then just dissolving them in water when we're in the mountains."
Wang An thought about it and felt it was actually a pretty good idea, so he nodded and said,
"Yeah, I'll prepare some when we get home."
Just as the two of them were chewing their pancakes and looking around, Wang Li suddenly pointed to the middle of the rocky slope and said,
"Fourth Brother, look over there. What is that thing? It looks like a sleeve from a jacket to me."
Because the two were sitting facing each other, Wang An turned his head to look up the slope.
But as soon as he looked, his eyes widened.
In this day and age, finding a jacket sleeve in the middle of the wilderness clearly meant there was a major problem.
After all, in this era, some people were still wearing burlap sacks!
