Chapter 124: Northeast Camp

~8 min read 1,408 words

A week later, Chen Xun's marriage application was approved, and after receiving the approval, he jumped high on the spot in joy.

Just as he was about to write a letter to tell An Yinan this good news, the emergency assembly whistle blew; a new mission had arrived.

At this moment, An Yinan had already received the new translation materials; ninety percent of the materials were in English, and there were also two books in German.

"I will be in seclusion to translate for the next few days. Yun Shu, I leave my meals to you. Xiue will have the food prepared; after you finish eating, please bring it back for me. No need to knock, just keep it warm in the pot."

"As for the traps on the Back Mountain, I leave them to Yun Mo. Don't let my traps go to waste; send any prey caught directly to Xiue."

Ever since she had Yun Fei's phone number, Yun Shu had completely carried out An Yinan's tasks. An Yinan's personality was such that she meant what she said; if one were to truly go against her wishes, there would likely be only one path: being transferred away.

"Yes." The two stood at attention and saluted, accepting the order.

An Yinan took the books, returned to her room, drew the curtains, bolted the door, and went straight into her space.

She first went to the bathroom to take a bath, then sat at the desk, turned on the desk lamp, set an alarm on her phone, and only then began to translate.

Recently, she had translated many physics materials; many of the knowledge points were interconnected, and there were even overlapping parts, making her translation work feel like a fish in water.

Every time the alarm rang, she would exit the space, open the door, eat the food kept warm in the pot, and then close the door to continue setting the alarm and translating.

Seven days later, Yun Shu did not leave but instead waited in the kitchen. Seeing An Yinan open the door, the two looked at each other and were both stunned for a moment.

"You haven't slept these past few days?" Yun Shu looked at An Yinan, finding it hard to imagine how someone so young could persist.

She also thought, what eighteen-year-old girl could reach the position of a confidential translator?

An Yinan shook her head, "I slept, two hours of sleep every day."

She had some ideas recently; she had summarized all the physics she had translated and even drawn a Mind Map. She did not know if this Mind Map would be of any help to the country.

However, seeing Yun Shu waiting, it was clear she had more to say, "Is something the matter?"

Yun Shu thought for a moment, "There was an incident with a mission in the Northeast Military Region. Battalion Commander Chen Xun was injured and fell into a coma."

The chopsticks in An Yinan's hand fell to the floor, her curled lips flattened for the first time, and her eyes were dazed for a split second.

"I want to go to the Northeast Military Region. Can you find a way?" An Yinan looked at Yun Shu.

Yun Shu nodded, "The superior has already applied for it, and your marriage application has already been approved. As a military spouse, you naturally have the right to accompany him. The train is tonight."

"Thank you, and please thank your superior for me too." An Yinan nodded and pulled out a new pair of chopsticks, stuffing food into her mouth. She didn't even know what it tasted like, but she knew she couldn't collapse; she still had to go and accompany Chen Xun.

From now on, she was a military wife; wasn't she prepared for many things long ago?

She could not fall into chaos.

This was the first time Yun Shu had seen An Yinan like this. She didn't cry, she didn't make a scene, she was as quiet as usual, but that wolfing-down manner...

She finally reached out to stop her, "Leader, if you don't want to eat, don't eat."

An Yinan smiled, "I have to eat. If I collapse, who can he rely on?"

Yun Shu ultimately did not stop her. Watching the person who had swallowed a bowl of rice whole, she silently cleared the things away.

An Yinan thought of the materials she had translated. If not for Chen Xun's coma, she would have finished the subsequent work, which would have taken another day, but now that was clearly impossible.

She sealed all the materials and handed them to Yun Shu.

"These are the previous translation materials. The translation part is already finished, and I also made more than half of a Mind Map. Time doesn't allow for more, so the rest will have to be done by someone else. I hope it is of some help to the organization. Have Yun Mo send it off."

Yun Shu took the materials, solemnly took out the Password Case, and handed it to Yun Mo. The two didn't know what was said, but less than an hour after Yun Mo left, he returned to Quanshui Village.

Zhang Qian had also heard the news and quickly came to An Yinan's Xiao Yuan, "I will go to the Northeast Military Region with you. My mission in Quanshui Village is already complete."

An Yinan did not speak, only nodded.

"An Yinan, from the first time I saw you, I felt you were different. You are very clear-headed, possessing a clarity that transcends the situation itself." Zhang Qian perhaps understood their relationship better.

They relied on each other, yet were also independent and free; they warmed each other, yet could also endure the cold alone.

They were very special, a feeling of souls accompanying one another.

An Yinan closed her eyes, "Yun Mo, you stay behind. Quanshui Village is left to you."

"Leader, I..." Yun Mo was a bit anxious. No one knew what would happen on this journey, and with only Yun Shu there, he was truly worried.

"This is an order." An Yinan looked straight at Yun Mo. Yun Mo looked at her and felt as if he were seeing the superior.

That pressure, that murderous intent in her eyes—it was just that the Leader was more sharp-edged, while the superior was more restrained.

"Yes!" Yun Mo immediately stood at attention and saluted.

Zhang Qian patted Yun Mo, "Quanshui Village might not be peaceful; you need to be diligent."

If nothing went wrong, Chen Xun's mission this time was also related to the border. These things he could not say; he could only hint at it to Yun Mo from the side.

Yun Mo nodded solemnly.

That afternoon, the three people, carrying a full set of documents, boarded the train to the Northeast Military Region.

"Sleep for a while?" Zhang Qian looked at the person who hadn't said a word and asked gently.

The red bloodshot lines in her eyes circled her pupils; apart from her calm expression, her whole body was telling of her exhaustion.

An Yinan looked at Zhang Qian, then nodded. She climbed onto the sleeper berth and closed her eyes.

Yun Shu's understanding of An Yinan was not as deep as Zhang Qian's, and she had never experienced romantic love, but she knew the heart-wrenching pain of losing a comrade-in-arms.

"I'll keep watch; you should sleep for a while too." Zhang Qian nodded to Yun Shu.

Yun Shu did not stand on ceremony; she slept fully clothed right under An Yinan's bunk. Even in her sleep, her ears were constantly listening to the movements around them.

After rocking on the train for four days, they finally arrived at a border City. Here, heavy snow had sealed the mountains, and everything in sight was a sheet of white.

"We need to take a truck. I'll go ask." Zhang Qian walked to a small tavern nearby and showed his identification.

"Eh? Little Qianzi is back?" A rugged man walked out from the back kitchen.

"Nike Dashu." Zhang Qian called out politely.

"Mission accomplished?" Nike Dashu asked.

Zhang Qian smiled, "Is there a truck going to the Camp today?"

Nike Dashu thought for a moment, "Yes, it should be leaving in about half an hour. It's a truck delivering military supplies. Are you coming along?"

Zhang Qian quickly agreed, "Three spots for us, please arrange it, Nike Dashu."
