Chapter 156: He, Has Arrived
At this moment, An Yinan was arranged to be sent to the nearest Military District Hospital, and upon entering the hospital, she was pushed directly into the operating room.
The bullet was lodged in her scapula; although the bleeding had slowly stopped, the pain was extremely intense.
An Yinan's face was pale, and cold sweat turned into substance, dripping down drop by drop.
It was not until she was given anesthesia that she felt the pain diminish somewhat, though she could still feel it.
With the not-too-blinding surgical lights, the bustling crowd, and the unfamiliar names of medications, An Yinan suddenly felt as if she were an outsider, watching the busyness of the entire operating room.
In the end, she did not know if it was due to physical exhaustion or the effect of the anesthesia, but she drifted off to sleep.
In her sleep, she seemed to hear the voice of her eldest uncle, the voice of her second aunt, and also the voice of Chen Xun...
"So bright." An Yinan unconsciously reached out her right hand to block the light before her eyes.
The man at her side immediately stood up and pulled the curtain a bit to block some of the light.
Only then did An Yinan see the person before her; with a hoarse voice and an innocent expression, paired with her naturally pitiful appearance, she said, "Chen Xun."
At this moment, she did not know what great power those two simple words held for Chen Xun.
She had always called him by his name, whether after they first met, after they applied for marriage, or after they received their marriage certificate.
Chen Xun's expression was somewhat cold, and his gaze toward An Yinan was full of worry. "Does it still hurt?"
Three words; no one knew how cold his entire body felt when he heard the news, nor would anyone know how afraid he had been.
Seeing her injured and lying lifelessly on the hospital bed, he even wanted to destroy the entire world.
An Yinan was just about to reach out both hands when she felt a sharp pain in her left shoulder, so she could only slowly reach out her right hand.
Chen Xun immediately took hold of her hand. "Don't move around. The wound hasn't healed well yet; the bullet was lodged in the scapula, so it is not easy to recover."
An Yinan, however, acted as if she hadn't heard, then pulled her hand from his grasp and stroked his face.
"Once upon a time, I wondered what I would do if you sacrificed yourself during a mission."
Before she finished speaking, she curled the corners of her lips and smiled slightly; the smile was so beautiful, so gentle, and so well-behaved.
"Aren't you going to ask?" An Yinan looked into Chen Xun's eyes.
Chen Xun pulled her hand back into his own. "What would you do?"
An Yinan raised an eyebrow. "I would guard what you guarded, love what you loved, inherit your legacy, and live out this life alone; that might not be a different kind of scenery."
Chen Xun was stunned, dazed; the black mist in his eyes gradually dissipated. The girl in his eyes was so fervent, radiating intense light; at this moment, he only wanted to follow by her side, nothing more.
"Alright, I will remember that." Chen Xun nodded, his voice hoarse with the fatigue of not having rested for too long.
An Yinan, however, pulled her hand away and pinched his high-bridged nose. "Good."
He understood her, just as she understood him.
They did not need to say it clearly, yet they both understood each other's meaning.
"Awake?" Fang Hong pushed the door open and saw the pair of man and woman gazing at each other.
Originally, she had intended to observe Chen Xun a bit more; after all, their little girl of the Yun Family naturally had to have her character and personality assessed.
But this time, when Nan Nan was injured, they saw a man who acted like a madman.
Loving so madly, what objections could they possibly have?
"Second Aunt." The young girl lacked her usual playfulness; because of blood loss, her face and lips were pale, and one could even see her greenish veins.
Looking so wilted at this moment, it made one feel extremely heartbroken.
"See if you learn your lesson or not. Couldn't you wait for the Police? Did you have to act ahead of time?" Fang Hong nagged, which was rare for her.
Everyone knew that if An Yinan hadn't acted at that time, that child might not have survived.
But An Yinan was a child of their Yun Family, so they had to be allowed to cherish their own child more; as family members, they were selfish.
"It won't happen next time." An Yinan smiled coaxingly.
Fang Hong looked at her helplessly. "You."
Seeing An Yinan awake and in good spirits, and with the data from the Doctor's examination having come out, everyone finally felt at ease.
"The Doctor said you can eat, and you need to nourish yourself well." Fang Hong brought out the bone broth and the dumplings she had wrapped.
"Thank you, Second Aunt," An Yinan said sweetly.
Fang Hong set the things down and then pointed at Chen Xun. "This one of yours hasn't eaten a thing. Our words don't work on him; you see to it."
An Yinan had been unconscious for three whole days; perhaps she was too tired, or perhaps the effect of the anesthesia was too strong.
Chen Xun had just finished a mission when he heard the news of An Yinan's injury; before he came, he had accepted a new mission, which was to capture that leader in black.
He spent two days laying out a plan, rounded up that group of people, and sent them directly to Yun Fei.
For the day after that, he stayed by An Yinan's bedside, not eating or drinking, never leaving her side.
"The wife sings, the husband follows," An Yinan laughed shamelessly.
"You little rascal." Fang Hong tapped her forehead, a rare gesture, then pushed the door and walked out, leaving this quiet space to the man and woman behind.
An Yinan pouted and looked at Chen Xun. "I'm hungry."
Three days—she wasn't just hungry; she was starving to death.
"Alright." Chen Xun picked up a small spoon and fed An Yinan a spoonful of soup first.
An Yinan took a sip and smiled slyly. "You drink too."
Chen Xun couldn't do anything about her, so they finished the meal just like that, one bite for her, one bite for him.
The snowy road had already been cleared; as for the aftermath of that robbery, An Yinan did not participate, nor did she want to continue caring about it.
Better to avoid extra trouble.
Besides, with Yun Fei and Chen Xun looking after the aftermath, what else did she have to worry about?
She stayed in the hospital for five days, and Chen Xun accepted a new mission, looking at An Yinan with an apologetic face.
She had been shot and injured, yet he was unable to stay by her side.
An Yinan smiled. "There will be plenty of time in the future. Next year, I will be following the army; you'd better be prepared to be annoyed to death by me every day."
Colors instantly bloomed in Chen Xun's eyes.
"It's not a bother." This man of few words remained as upright as ever; he could not speak sweet nothings, yet he was doing his best to do everything for her.
The two looked at each other and smiled; if her shoulder weren't immobile, An Yinan would really have liked to pull this block of wood over and give him a kiss.
Chen Xun left; a new mission had been issued, and between personal feelings and the affairs of the nation, he had no choice.
After staying for another ten days, under An Yinan's strong request, she was finally discharged from the hospital.
It was half a month later by the time she returned to Quanshui Village; although An Yinan could not lift her arm, slight movements did not affect it.
"Leader, within half a month, you cannot touch water or use a pen." Yun Shu strictly followed the doctor's orders.
An Yinan smiled, "Little Yun Shu, it's my left hand that's injured, not my right."
As for things like using a pen, having a right hand is enough.
