Chapter 179: I Don't Believe It

~8 min read 1,444 words

To maintain balance, Chen Xun pressed both hands onto An Yinan's shoulders, with the chair separating him and her into two different places.

Yet their breathing was tightly intertwined.

By the time An Yinan couldn't catch her breath, she had already been looking up and feeling breathless, but it turned out Chen Xun's kissing technique had grown too fast.

Did he not need to breathe?

Chen Xun looked at the girl who had let go of her hands, his eyes appearing as if they hid an abyss.

A cold and aloof deity, longing for the beauty of the mundane world.

"Comrade Chen Xun, have you never kissed anyone before?" An Yinan asked suspiciously.

With this kissing technique, she truly did not believe it.

Chen Xun pulled the girl straight and then said indifferently, "No."

An Yinan pursed her lips, "I don't believe it!"

Chen Xun crouched down to look her in the eye, "Only you."

An Yinan looked at his sincerity, and a smile spread out like pebbles dropped into a lake; her starry eyes flashed with twinkling stars.

"Teasing you." The young girl's charming voice was like a lark in the woods; every chirp and trill was a scene in itself.

Chen Xun ruffled her hair, "I know."

His girl was, by nature, whimsical and clever.

His girl was, by nature, so wise she was almost demonic.

No matter what she was like, she would always be his girl.

To cherish her, spoil her, and love her was his life's work.

On May 4th, the weather was very good, and for once it wasn't snowing; Chen Xun ran back, his head covered in sweat.

"Nan Nan, we are going back to our hometown tomorrow." The man's face was flushed, and his cold, stern eyes held deep affection.

An Yinan was stunned and put down the pen in her hand, "Didn't you say the vacation schedule was pushed to August?"

Chen Xun couldn't say that he had run to the Secretary Office every day, annoying the Secretary so much that he finally had to agree.

"The vacation schedule, it's been arranged." The man downplayed all his efforts.

An Yinan curled her lips, "Okay."

On May 5th, the Northeast Camp was shrouded in gray, and the snow in the sky was neither falling nor stopping; throughout the camp, aside from the loud slogans, there was only the sound of soldiers training.

An Yinan wore a thick cotton-padded coat, with summer shirts and the dress Chen Xun had given her packed in her backpack.

"You've been here for three or four months now, right? In this hellish weather, can the girl adapt?" Nike Dashu asked while driving, with white snow everywhere outside.

An Yinan smiled, "It's cold outside, but it's warm indoors; inside it's like spring all year round, what's there not to adapt to?"

Thinking of her own Xiao Yuan, An Yinan smiled.

In the room, she had planted some green onions, cilantro, and chili peppers in ceramic pots, and had even set up hydroponic lettuce and spinach.

At first, it was just for fun, but after harvesting the first batch of hydroponic lettuce, she completely fell in love with it because it gave her an excuse to take vegetables from her space.

Finally, she didn't have to eat dry staple foods every day.

Nike Dashu was silently quiet for a moment, then turned his head to look at the two of them, "Is it really okay for you two to provoke me like this?"

An Yinan rubbed her temples, "Then is it really okay for you to provoke him every time?"

Nike Dashu looked at the two of them and figured, fine, who told them to be a family while he was a lone wolf?

"Alright, a married-off daughter is like spilled water; in the end, you just can't keep them," Nike Dashu sighed.

An Yinan shook her head with a smile; they say old people become like children, and Nike Dashu had that potential, always wanting to tease Chen Xun.

"Dashu has brought you to the place; when you come back, send a telegram early, and Dashu will come to pick you up again," Nike Dashu laughed heartily.

Chen Xun stood in front of Nike Dashu and then stepped forward to hug him, "Old Nike, take care."

Nike Dashu hugged him back, "Kid, protect her well."

"I will." Chen Xun nodded firmly.

Nike Dashu's wife was the thorn in his heart; he would resent himself for his whole life for not having protected them well.

Chen Xun understood, and he would protect Nan Nan with his life even more.

"Go on now." Nike Dashu waved his hand, bidding farewell to the two.

An Yinan and the others had their train tickets booked long ago; because of An Yinan's special status, the four of them went through the Compilation Bureau's process and directly secured a soft-sleeper carriage.

They boarded the train to Heilongjiang Province, then transferred from there to Beijing.

They had originally wanted to return to the County, but their godmother notified them to return directly to Beijing.

Chen Yeye lived in the Military District Compound, and the Yun Family was also in the Military District Compound; their two... no, the four of them's wedding would be held in Beijing.

The wedding of Chen Jia and his wife Yun Qin had never been held; although their little baby was already half a year old, the Chen Family had always owed Yun Qin a wedding.

After both sides discussed it, they decided on the four people's wedding together.

The group of four didn't have many belongings; Yun Shu and Yun Mo didn't have much, and An Yinan and Chen Xun didn't have much either. They had previously mailed a pair of knee pads to Chen Yeye; the old man had been shot in the leg on the battlefield when he was young, and now whenever the weather changed, his leg would ache so much he couldn't stand, so even in the middle of summer, he needed knee pads for warmth.

"Nan Nan, rest for a while." Chen Xun poured hot water for An Yinan and looked at the busy person, telling her to stop and rest for a moment.

Since boarding the train, the soft-sleeper carriage had been very enclosed, with separate doors and windows.

Moreover, there were three soldiers in the carriage, which gave her plenty of a sense of security, so she simply started translating documents. These documents themselves had to be sent to Beijing, and returning this time, she could just finish translating them, saving time on the road and getting them to the Project Department as soon as possible.

She had started translating as soon as she got on the train, going straight from morning until night; now the sky outside was almost dark, the lights inside the carriage were already on, and she still hadn't stopped.

An Yinan rubbed the back of her neck, and just as she reached out, Chen Xun's rough, warm hand reached over, gripped the back of her neck, and pressed it rhythmically, one stroke at a time.

"Close your eyes and rest them for a while," Chen Xun said softly.

An Yinan obediently closed her eyes, feeling the relaxation in her back.

After kneading for ten minutes, Chen Xun pounded her back for her, then pulled her to stand up.

"From now on, every two hours, I will call you to walk around; sitting like this won't do, your body won't be able to take it," Chen Xun said.

An Yinan nodded obediently; in truth, she also wanted to keep track of time. In the past, she would set an alarm on her phone while inside the space, but she couldn't use her phone while outside. Moreover, once she got busy, her perception of time became extremely low, and she would always lose track of it.

"Come, drink some warm water, then eat something. The food on the train isn't good, so just make do with a little," Chen Xun said.

Yun Mo had just gone to the dining car to buy food. Today it was two-grain rice and stir-fried baby bok choy. Now that the baby bok choy in the vegetable garden had just been harvested, baby bok choy had become a popular dish everywhere; it was cheap and abundant, so if they didn't use it, what would they use?

As soon as An Yinan saw the baby bok choy, her eyes lit up. During her time in the Northeast Military Region, she had eaten plenty of meat, but there really hadn't been any vegetables.

Even dried vegetables had become a scarce commodity.
