Chapter 184: Three Generations of Mothers-in-law and Daughters-in-law

~8 min read 1,455 words

"Qinqin, come inside." Pulling An Yinan along, she greeted Yun Qin and urged them to hurry into the inner room.

The Chen Family had a very simple household; Chen Laoyezi had only one son, who was Chen Jianhua.

And Chen Jianhua's wife was Sun Chunhua.

They had two sons, the eldest Chen Jia and the second son Chen Xun; they were a pair of twins who did not look alike.

Chen Laoyezi placed great importance on his children's upbringing; not one of his children had ever used back-door connections. He was selfless and impartial, whether toward outsiders or his own family.

Whether it was Chen Jianhua or Chen Jia and Chen Xun, they had all started as small soldiers in the Military and climbed up step by step on their own, with not a single one relying on Chen Laoyezi's protection.

"Qinqin and Nan Nan are here? Come in quickly." Chen Jianhua walked over, looked at Yun Qin and An Yinan, and smiled.

Just then, the door was knocked on from the outside. Chen Xun walked over quickly to open it and saw An Xiangbei.

"An An Erge," An Xiangbei said.

Calling him An An Erge was his final act of stubbornness!

If it weren't for his sister taking a fancy to him, he would never have let his sister marry him.

Chen Xun ruffled his hair, not minding the little boy's form of address.

"Beibei is here." Chen Jianhua saw Beibei walk in.

"Godfather, Godmother," Beibei greeted them politely.

He had just gone to the restroom when his eldest sister and his sister arrived at the Chen Family, so he had hurried over. His godfather and godmother hadn't arrived long ago either; he had seen them yesterday, so he should come over today to pay his respects.

Ever since she learned of An Xiangbei's goal, An Yinan had specifically asked the Yun Family for help to find an etiquette teacher. Although there was only one lesson per week, it had been going on for over half a year, and he rarely made mistakes in etiquette now.

"Grandfather," An Yinan and Yun Qin greeted the old man sitting in the chair.

An Yinan had always thought Chen Laoyezi was a very stern person based on what Chen Xun and the Yun Family had told her.

But their first meeting was not like the description; the old man currently had a kind smile on his face and beckoned to the few of them.

"Don't stand outside, come over and sit."

An Yinan took Sun Chunhua's arm, Yun Qin and Chen Jia stood side by side, and everyone walked over.

"The Northeast Camp is different from other places; it snows there all year round. You have suffered there," Chen Laoyezi said, looking at An Yinan with appreciation.

An Yinan quickly shook her head. "Chen Xun is there, and I have my own things to do. The time I can spend by his side isn't long, so I want to spend more time with him while I have the freedom these two years."

She would not say things that old people liked to hear just to deliberately curry favor.

She already had her own plans; when the time came for university registration, she would go to university. Whether this was her obsession or what she considered another way to improve herself, it didn't matter.

Chen Laoyezi was even more appreciative. "Good, your thinking is good. Only when one has a goal of their own can one say they haven't wasted this life."

He didn't have any thoughts about women needing to stay home and raise children; his own wife had fought side-by-side with him all the way, she had just left too early.

Now, seeing that his grandsons had each found a good partner, he felt even more at ease.

It wasn't that he hadn't provided protection for his children; his protection was to let them grow independently so that when they were able to provide protection for others in the future, they would understand.

An Yinan looked at Chen Xun, and Chen Xun lowered his head with a faint smile and asked, "What's wrong?"

An Yinan shook her head.

Sun Chunhua said to her two daughters-in-law, "By the way, I forgot to tell your mother yesterday. I've prepared some fabric for you here. I won't prepare clothes for you; whatever style you like, just find an old tailor to make them."

"Come, let's go upstairs and take a look, and let the men chat downstairs." Sun Chunhua took one by each hand, and the three of them went upstairs together.

"Is Dandan still nursing?" Sun Chunhua asked.

The child was at the Yun Family with a nanny watching him, and he would always be brought to the Chen Family, but the situation had been special these past few days. She couldn't keep running to the Chen Family, and since Dandan was still breastfeeding, there was no way to send him to the Chen Family.

"Mom, I plan to feed him until he's one year old," Yun Qin smiled.

She really didn't know how to get along with a mother-in-law. She had rarely spent time with her own mother at home, and every day was spent grinding away in the Military, so she rarely realized she was a woman.

Moreover, when she married Chen Jia, they didn't have any leave and didn't specifically go home.

The wedding had been postponed again and again, until now.

If it weren't for her husband Chen Jia insisting, she actually didn't really want to hold a wedding.

However, the Yun Family was satisfied with Chen Jia's insistence, especially Liu Xicai; her own daughter marrying off in such an unclear way would have made her feel uneasy.

"That depends on you; you can feed him however you like," Sun Chunhua smiled. With a kind face, she patted the hand of the somewhat nervous Yun Qin.

"Nan Nan and I have spent time together, and we often wrote letters, so we are relatively more familiar with each other."

"You don't need to be nervous getting along with me. If there's anything I say or do that isn't quite right, you can tell me directly. You are a daughter-in-law of our Chen Family; no one else has the right to say anything."

Sun Chunhua instructed her in detail. After hearing this, Yun Qin finally let out a sigh of relief; she had never been alone with a mother-in-law, so naturally, she was a bit nervous.

It felt like the classic "ugly daughter-in-law finally meeting the parents-in-law."

Although she didn't admit that she was ugly...

"I know, Mom." Yun Qin was a straightforward person by nature, and after feeling the kindness Sun Chunhua radiated, she relaxed completely.

An Yinan looked at the two of them and burst into laughter.

"Godmother, it was such a coincidence. Before, when I wrote letters to my eldest sister, I kept calling her 'Eldest Sister-in-law', and only later did I find out she was actually the daughter of my uncle's family. Don't you think that's a coincidence?" An Yinan recounted the events of that time in detail.

Sun Chunhua listened quietly, and by the end, the mother-in-law and daughters-in-law all burst into laughter.

The laughter of the three women was what finally allowed the men downstairs to relax.

"You, you didn't even tell the family about getting injured. I was worried to death when I found out. I was just about to go to Quanshui Village to see you when your godfather said you were going to the Northeast Camp," Sun Chunhua complained.

"Why go to the Northeast Camp? You should have asked for leave to come home and let me nurse you back to health. That place is freezing, and it snows all year round; the environment is too harsh and not suitable for recovering from injuries at all," came the loving nagging from her godmother.

When An Yinan was shot, by the time she found out, the little girl had already returned to Quanshui Village. After she applied for leave and got the train tickets, she was told that An Yinan was going to follow the troops.

She was in a dilemma about whether to go or not, her heart full of worry.

Now that she saw the little girl safe and sound, her heart finally settled.

"Hey, isn't everything fine now? Besides, that was just an accident." An Yinan spun around to show that she was truly fine.

Sun Chunhua still held onto the two of them and instructed, "When you are out and about, it's not like being with your father and me. You must pay attention to safety; your health is the capital of the revolution."
