Chapter 294: Lovely Roommates
However, Teacher Zhang still kept the female student who brought her child; as for what happened afterward, no one knew.
After school ended at noon, An Yinan bought two portions of food and went straight back to the dormitory.
She saw that female student sitting on a stool, with the child still held in her arms.
Her bed assignment hadn't been confirmed yet, and she didn't want to cause trouble, so after class, she had carried the child back to the dormitory; having nowhere to sit, she could only sit on the stool.
Seeing An Yinan push the door open and walk in, she smiled gently, "You're back? May I call you Nan Nan?"
An Yinan had stated her name directly in the office, and it had been etched into the other's heart.
"Of course you can!" An Yinan placed the lunchbox on the table, "I bought two portions of food; I figure you didn't have time to go get any, so why don't you eat this first?"
Just then, Jiang Yunduo opened the door, panting, "Nan Nan, you ran too fast."
The teacher said class was over, and then Nan Nan had vanished; she had chased after her for a long time, knowing only the destination was the cafeteria, but nothing else, because she hadn't even caught a glimpse of Nan Nan's shadow.
Before An Yinan could pull Jiang Yunduo down to sit, the door was pushed open again, and Zhang Jia walked in from outside.
"I brought you an egg; my mom told my aunt that eating eggs increases breast milk." Zhang Jia placed the egg directly on the table and sat on the bed with an embarrassed look.
Jiang Yunduo took a look and picked up a meatball from her lunchbox with her chopsticks, "I bought too much, I can't finish it."
Afterward, Jiang Yunduo also put one into An Yinan's lunchbox and winked at An Yinan.
Liu Erya finished class relatively late, and her financial situation wasn't good, so she usually just bought vegetable pancakes to eat.
But this time, she had bought two white-flour Steamed Buns and placed one directly onto the lunchbox on the table.
"You eat."
She held the other Steamed Bun, took a bite very cherishably, and squinted her eyes in satisfaction.
An Yinan looked at her roommates and finally waved her hand, "In that case, let's put our food together and eat together?"
Liu Erya waved her hands, "I don't need to, I'm full with one Steamed Bun."
Her family was poor, and she was already very satisfied to be able to attend university; she was the only college student from their gully.
But everyone else's circumstances were very good; if she ate with them, she would be taking advantage of them.
An Yinan took her own lunchbox directly and moved one-third of her vegetables into Liu Erya's lunchbox.
Zhang Jia also moved some of her own vegetables over to Liu Erya.
Jiang Yunduo also gave Liu Erya one of her meatballs directly.
"Alright, go ahead and eat," Jiang Yunduo said softly.
The others in the dormitory all put their lunchboxes together, and then everyone started eating while chatting and laughing.
"Wow, eating with people really is more flavorful." After finishing, Zhang Jia rubbed her stomach and collapsed onto her bed.
An Yinan smiled; this incident had brought everyone closer together.
"You live here, I'll go to the upper bunk," Liu Erya said to Zhou Ruo Ran.
Just after eating, everyone had introduced themselves; it turned out the woman holding the child was named Zhou Ruo Ran.
Her child was named Tiedan; she said a humble name is easier to raise.
Zhou Ruo Ran stood up in a panic, "Er Ya, there's no need, I can put the child up there and then go to the upper bunk, it won't be a problem."
Liu Erya was not one for words; she simply packed her things efficiently and moved her bedding and items without saying a word.
Liu Mingxia's things had already been taken by Teacher Zhang to the dormitory manager's room, so the bed and cabinet were now empty.
Zhou Ruo Ran thanked Liu Erya with red eyes, "Thank you."
Liu Erya's complexion was somewhat dark, so her expression couldn't be seen at the moment, but she just waved her hand.
An Yinan was originally in an upper bunk and had no authority to make everyone switch beds; she had originally thought that if it didn't work out, she would help hold the child, and once Zhou Ruo Ran went to the upper bunk, she would pass the child up, but she hadn't expected Liu Erya to take the initiative to give up the lower bunk, which actually made it more convenient for Zhou Ruo Ran to take care of the child.
An Yinan thought for a moment, then took a piece of gray coarse cloth from her bed, "Who is good at needlework?"
Not to mention Zhang Jia and Jiang Yunduo; to be honest, An Yinan really didn't have any expectations for their needlework—could these two young ladies even tell the difference between their hands and the cloth?
"I know a little; I'm the one who does the mending for the clothes at home," Liu Erya said.
Zhou Ruo Ran also spoke up, "My needlework is not bad."
"I've been thinking, we should each make bed curtains so that our privacy is guaranteed; I'll provide the cloth, and you two provide the craftsmanship, how about that?" An Yinan asked.
"As for Yun Duo and Jia Jia, why don't you cover the evening meals?" An Yinan suggested.
Neither Jiang Yunduo nor Zhang Jia were short on money, which could be seen from the clothes they wore and their usual meals.
"Alright! I've wanted curtains like yours for a long time, they're much more convenient; it's just that we weren't familiar with each other back then, so I was too embarrassed to ask," Zhang Jia said with a chuckle.
Jiang Yunduo also nodded quickly; although her mom and dad would mail her some when she got home, it would be so great to use the same bed curtains as her sisters in the dormitory.
An Yinan already had bed curtains; she was doing this more for Zhou Ruo Ran's sake.
When she breastfed, she had to worry about everyone else's feelings; if she had curtains, she could breastfeed while on the bed.
"Look at mine!" An Yinan gave a demonstration and also wrote down the measurements.
"Using such good cloth to make bed curtains, isn't that a waste?" Liu Erya said somewhat embarrassedly.
She was afraid An Yinan would think she was being meddlesome, after all, the other person was providing the cloth and giving it to everyone for free.
The gray cloth An Yinan took out was a type of coarse cloth; although it wasn't pretty, it served to avoid drawing attention.
"Um... it's fine, I have more of this cloth," An Yinan smiled.
"Alright, then I'll do it," Liu Erya scratched the back of her head, feeling embarrassed.
Growing up in different environments, An Yinan respected Liu Erya's past and didn't blame her for being talkative; her bringing it up now was also for her own good.
Zhou Ruo Ran placed Tiedan on the bed, covered him with a quilt, and then walked to Liu Erya's side.
"I'll do it with you." With work to do, the two of them were actually more relaxed now.
An Yinan saw that Liu Erya's stitches were fine and dense, clearly the work of someone who often did mending.
Zhou Ruo Ran, however, was very meticulous; she cut semicircles at the corners and made several cloth ties, so that they could be tied up directly in daily use without having to pull them back and forth; especially for the lower bunk, the curtains could be hung directly without needing wire, just by tying the cloth ties on both sides.
An Yinan was very satisfied with the craftsmanship of the two of them.
She had also made a decision in her heart.
In fact, it is better to teach someone how to fish than to give them a fish.
Liu Xicai was already planning to hire people to make clothes, and after seeing the craftsmanship of the two, she had a plan in mind; however, she would bring it up to the two of them when her shop officially started hiring, and as for whether they agreed or not, that would be a matter for the two of them.
