Chapter 37: Meeting Chen Xun Again

~7 min read 1,337 words

Death? An Yinan could not consider it; she wanted to live, yet she was trapped in an unavoidable situation. She threw caution to the wind, turned, and threw the stone in her hand. Without any hesitation, she was incredibly calm at this moment, entering an inexplicable state. There was no aiming, no thinking. She knew she would die, but she also knew he would not survive either! A life for a life—that was enough.

Just at this critical moment, a gunshot rang out from behind her, causing the eyes-closed An Yinan to turn around quickly, where she saw a man's face.

That bullet directly struck the Japanese man's bullet, changing its trajectory, but An Yinan's stone met no resistance, striking him right between the eyebrows!

"Bang." An Yinan looked over. The Japanese man widened his eyes in disbelief, a blood hole left between his eyebrows, while that stone was embedded in his head.

An Yinan's legs went weak, and her body slumped down involuntarily.

Chen Xun ran forward quickly, caught the young girl, looked at the person who had already fallen in the distance, and then looked at the young girl's bloodless face. "Are you alright?"

An Yinan nodded, untied the rope bound to her body, and placed Mo Yunshen on the ground. She first checked his breathing; it was steady. She guessed he had inhaled some kind of anesthetic.

Aside from looking after Mo Yunshen, her mind was a complete blank; she had killed someone.

That man was staring fixedly at her, and the blood hole in his head was not even bleeding downward. A life had just ended like that.

Her heart felt heavy, yet she did not regret it.

If she hadn't killed him, she might have been the one to die, and Mo Yunshen would have been dragged down with her.

"It's okay, it's okay." Chen Xun did not know how to comfort the young girl, so he could only pat An Yinan's back, coaxing her in a cold, clear tone.

This little girl was truly prone to misfortune. The first time they met, she encountered hooligans on the road, and that little chili's temper had led her to slap the person directly; if he hadn't gone over, the little girl would have suffered.

This second time, she ran straight into the Japanese. Her stone-throwing technique was quite good, but if he hadn't arrived in time, I'm afraid...

Unlike others, the young girl did not cry; her eyes just lacked focus, and one hand held onto Mo Yunshen's hand, as if afraid this child would walk away?

Chen Xun felt a bit uncomfortable involuntarily, looking at that child's hand, which seemed like an eyesore.

It took a full half hour for An Yinan to slowly recover, hearing the person beside her repeating three words: "It's okay."

An Yinan's eyes began to focus, and she turned back to smile at Chen Xun. "I've troubled you again."

Chen Xun shook his head, stood up, and reached out his hand. "I'll pull you up."

An Yinan smiled helplessly. "My legs are weak; I can't stand up."

The young girl's face was pale, her lips curled in helplessness, and her pair of bright eyes finally regained their luster. Chen Xun suddenly felt his heartbeat quicken—"thump, thump, thump"—a chaotic rhythm without any pattern. It was as if he were sick.

"Shall I carry you?" Chen Xun squatted down and asked earnestly.

An Yinan covered her eyes with her right hand, her lips curling upward, not letting him see her eyes because they were filled with smiles at this moment. After calming down, she said, "That won't be necessary."

As she spoke, she pressed on Chen Xun's shoulder, slowly testing her strength to stand up.

Her legs were still a bit weak; if not for her willpower, she might have collapsed at any moment...

Looking at the still-unconscious Mo Yunshen, she said, "That person just now was Japanese. He said he kidnapped Yun Shen to trade for a secret formula for a biological virus from a Ms. Peng."

Ms. Peng? A biological virus secret formula? That was her teacher's wife.

Then this little fellow was Yun Shen?

Only then did Chen Xun observe the unconscious little fellow; it was indeed that little fellow, Mo Yunshen.

"Can you understand the R language?" Chen Xun put Mo Yunshen on his back and then, in a way that brooked no refusal, let An Yinan hold his arm.

Through the fabric of his clothes, she could clearly feel the firm muscle on the man's arm, and her ears quietly turned red.

"Um... I can understand a little bit?" An Yinan used a question, truly not knowing how to answer, so she simply left it for the man to interpret himself.

Chen Xun's lips curled up slightly. "Alright, I understand."

His hands were a bit itchy; he had just used great self-control to keep from placing his hand on top of her head, to keep from losing control.

Love arises from nowhere, yet it runs deep.

He hadn't understood it before, but now? Wasn't this intense heartbeat the answer?

"Right, wait a moment, I'll take you to a place." An Yinan suddenly remembered the cave.

Afterward, she took Chen Xun to the cliff again. However, on the way, she had rummaged through the boxes in her space; inside were guns, landmines, gold bars, and two boxes of voluminous letters. She had taken a rough look at them with her spiritual power.

"Where are you uncomfortable? We can wait a while." Chen Xun looked at the young girl in front of him, whose face had suddenly turned pale, thinking she had remembered what just happened.

Little did he know, An Yinan had simply overused her spiritual power. At this moment, her mind was in chaos, a pain like being struck by lightning churning in her brain.

"I'll rest for a moment." An Yinan sat down right where she was, leaned against a large tree, and fell into a faint.

Chen Xun watched the young girl, who was frowning one moment and flushing red the next, thinking An Yinan was having a nightmare. This was already deep in the mountains; he dared not leave the two of them here to go find food. He laid An Yinan flat, resting her on his lap, and his two hands gently rubbed An Yinan's temples. That relaxing sensation caused the pained An Yinan to fall into a deep sleep.

A full half hour later, An Yinan woke up. After waking, her spirit was still exhausted, but the intermittent stabbing pain was gone.

"Are you alright? Or should you take me there tomorrow?" Chen Xun was a bit worried. In his impression, women were synonymous with trouble, so for these twenty-plus years, besides his mother, there had never been any other female by his side.

The girl before him was the first one he wanted to get close to, wanted to do everything for, and wanted to shield from the wind and rain.

An Yinan shook her head. This matter was very significant; there was still a village doctor in Quanshui Village. If Yun Shen went back, what if that person got news and ran away, or did something even more extreme for that secret formula?

"Wait a little longer, just a moment." An Yinan rubbed her temples, but she didn't have that refreshing feeling from before.

Chen Xun pulled the young girl's hand away, and his somewhat rough thumb pressed onto her temple. That refreshing feeling returned, gradually clearing her chaotic mind.

"Your technique is good. Have you practiced?" An Yinan asked in a low voice.

Chen Xun also smiled. "Yes, when executing missions, there's no time to rest, so pressing the temples like this helps clear the mind."

"Are you very tired?" Neither of them had anything to do. At this moment, she couldn't climb the cliff, but she had to; those things were still in her space, and she had to go down and put them away...
