Chapter 462: Two Sisters

~8 min read 1,475 words

"Transfer all of them?" An older woman looked at the four forms, as well as the property deeds and the certificate issued by the neighborhood office.

"Transfer them!" The old man did not hesitate at all.

Once the Housing Management Bureau confirmed the transfer, they didn't waste any more words.

Trying to persuade them or anything of the sort? That was out of the question!

After the transfer was finished, the old man finally let out a sigh of relief.

"Now that this matter is done, my heart can finally be at ease."

"Grandpa, Grandma, we are leaving the day after tomorrow. I have taken the introduction letter; I need to book the tickets in advance." When An Yinan was at the neighborhood office, she had specifically had the introduction letter prepared for the old couple.

In a few more years, introduction letters would no longer be needed.

"Good. We don't have much in the way of belongings. You look after the house and settle it; don't just leave it sitting there." The old man still gave a word of advice in advance.

An Yinan nodded, "Rest assured."

After sending the old couple back home, she looked at the property deeds that had appeared out of thin air, then looked at Chen Xun.

Chen Xun smiled, "They cherish you; we will treat them well in the future."

"I'll take you somewhere." An Yinan led Chen Xun and walked toward the State-run Restaurant.

She had called Liu Meijie, and she should be at the restaurant these past two days.

"We aren't open right now," a voice said lazily.

It was not business hours, and besides, business at the State-run Restaurant was not very good anymore.

Small stalls had been set up in every street and alley outside; people could eat whenever they wanted, and eat whatever they wanted.

There was no need to be like at the State-run Restaurant, which had specific dining hours, and the daily dishes were all fixed.

"Xiaomei?" An Yinan called out.

She wasn't quite sure if this was still the same receptionist Xiaomei from before; after all, she had gained quite a bit of weight, and her overall state was not like it used to be.

"Nan Nan?" Hearing the voice, Xiaomei looked over and recognized her immediately.

It was mainly because so many years had passed, yet Nan Nan hadn't changed at all, and Liu Meijie had also mentioned that Nan Nan might come by these few days.

"Liu Meijie, Nan Nan is here." As Xiaomei got up to come over, she called out toward the back kitchen.

When she stood up, An Yinan realized why Xiaomei's face had become so chubby—it turned out she was pregnant.

"How many months? That belly looks quite big." An Yinan helped her sit on a stool nearby.

Xiaomei rubbed her belly, a halo of motherhood on her face, "Six months."

An Yinan widened her eyes, "Wait, six months?"

Six months—wasn't this belly a bit too big?

"Yes, the belly is a bit big. My mother-in-law says it's normal; when she gave birth to my partner, her belly was big too." Xiaomei smiled indifferently.

An Yinan, however, felt something was not quite right. With this belly, no matter how big the fetus was, it couldn't be six months.

"Stretch out your arm," An Yinan said.

She had already developed a habit; when she wasn't in a rush, she would always perform a Pulse Reading first, then use her clairvoyance.

If she relied too much on clairvoyance, it would be of no help to her own medical skills.

"Nan Nan, you're finally back." After hearing the call, Liu Mei immediately wiped her hands and ran out from the back kitchen.

An Yinan smiled, "Liu Meijie, let me perform a Pulse Reading first."

Liu Mei responded gently, "You go ahead and get busy."

She went to the back, poured two bowls of water, and brought them over.

"Brother-in-law, have some water first." Liu Mei placed it in front of Chen Xun.

She used to feel that Chen Xun was quite distant, and they weren't that familiar with each other.

But ever since she asked Chen Xun for a photo of Nan Nan, she truly regarded Chen Xun as her brother-in-law and was no longer as formal as before.

"Thank you, Liu Meijie." Chen Xun nodded with a smile, though his gaze remained fixed on his wife.

Liu Mei looked at the two of them and smiled silently.

"Have you been to the hospital to check?" After finishing the Pulse Reading, An Yinan knew what was going on.

However, for Xiaomei's safety, she still used her clairvoyance to look at her belly.

After finally confirming there were no issues, she then asked Xiaomei.

Xiaomei shook her head, "I haven't been."

In this day and age, pregnant women still went to work in the fields just the same; some even gave birth in the fields, and some on the road.

"I advise you to go to the hospital to check every month; your situation is quite special," An Yinan advised.

Liu Mei had been listening from the side, "Her? It's just because of what her mother-in-law says."

"She used to be such a sensible girl, but now whatever her mother-in-law says, she believes. I've advised her several times, but she just won't go."

Liu Mei was also quite angry; if this was what life was like after marriage, why get married in the first place?

Wasn't it better to just be a single girl?

Was marrying into the husband's family just to suffer?

She really couldn't understand it.

If An Yinan knew what Liu Mei was thinking, she would definitely exclaim in surprise!

After all, in this society, it was very rare for a girl to have such thoughts, and it had a lot to do with Liu Meijie's own family; her mother-in-law treated her very well after marriage and never interfered in the couple's life.

"My mother-in-law said..." After Xiaomei said this, she stopped herself.

Back when she was at home, her parents cherished her very much; let alone pregnancy, even if she had a cold or fever, they would immediately take her to the hospital to get checked.

And now?

The things she had firmly believed in were now colliding with reality, and she began to feel a bit hesitant.

An Yinan spoke up at this moment, "You are carrying twins, and it is very likely you will have a premature birth. If you don't go to the hospital, it will be very troublesome in the later stages."

This was also why, even though she was only six months along, her belly looked as if she were about to give birth.

"Twins?" Liu Mei looked at her belly; it was indeed much larger than hers had been at that time.

So it was twins.

"Think it over yourself." She was different with Xiaomei than with Liu Meijie; she was more familiar with Liu Meijie and could speak directly, but Xiaomei was different.

She only said what needed to be said; as for future matters, she still needed to make up her own mind.

Everyone wants to live a different kind of life.

"Thank you, Nan Nan," Xiaomei said, supporting her belly as she stood up and returned to her workstation.

Although they hadn't opened for business yet, she needed to think things over.

"How did you think of coming back? When I received your call, I couldn't even believe it," Liu Mei said with a smile.

"Right, I'll go find Liu Yun in a bit. You two eat here today, it's on me," Liu Meijie added.

An Yinan nodded, "That would be great, I can eat Ershu's cooking again."

The filling Ershu seasoned was absolutely superb.

When she was at the Frontline, she would secretly treat herself, but the Steamed Buns and steamed stuffed buns she had saved up before were long gone.

Now that there were small eateries everywhere, she hadn't stuffed any into her space.

"Where did you go these past few years? We couldn't get in touch with you at all," Liu Mei asked.

"I went on a mission and couldn't talk about it," An Yinan explained.

Liu Yun had seen the newspaper and specifically brought it back for Liu Mei to see.

"Is this our sister?" Liu Yun pointed at the black-and-white image, asking Liu Mei to identify it.

After looking at it, Liu Mei nodded affirmatively.

"It's our sister."

The two looked at each other in silence; being in the newspaper had quite an impact on ordinary people like them, not to mention it was in a newspaper about national affairs.

That was the negotiation with the Southern Monkeys, which ended in a total victory!

So she knew the gravity of the situation and no longer asked what the mission was.
