Chapter 516: Number 0 Project Call
Basically, the first time the little one eats a dish, she doesn't want to eat it the second time; as long as it enters her mouth, she immediately starts spitting it out.
Only the braised dishes—she has eaten them once every day for the few days since returning, and even now, there hasn't been any adverse reaction.
Upon hearing this, Chen Xun frowned; he hadn't expected Nan Nan's reaction to be so intense.
Only after listening to Mother Liu's words just now did he realize that he had thought too simply before.
An Yinan was only halfway through her meal when she heard a knock at the door; she had just started to feel sleepy and blinked her eyes helplessly.
"I'll go open the door, you keep eating slowly." Chen Xun cautioned her carefully, and only after confirming she wouldn't fall off the stool did he hurry out to open the door.
"Battalion Commander." Xiaokang's eyes lit up when he saw Chen Xun.
"Come back inside to talk first; I'm worried about your sister-in-law." Chen Xun didn't stand on ceremony, especially with his former soldier; even though he was now missing a leg, he knew in his heart that his soldiers didn't want to be treated specially.
"Alright, Battalion Commander, you go in first." Xiaokang nodded, letting Chen Xun enter the room first while he secured the courtyard gate, then he hobbled into the room on a crutch.
"Xiaokang, you're back from the factory?" An Yinan had already observed his expression upon seeing Xiaokang, and she could tell he was in a good mood lately.
A child cannot put on a front in front of people they are close to.
"Sister-in-law, I just got back; someone at the factory called for you." Xiaokang looked at An Yinan, his expression somewhat solemn, because he had heard that voice before.
"Called me?" An Yinan looked at Xiaokang and gave a dainty yawn; the main reason was that she was truly too sleepy.
That's not right, how could a call be made to the factory?
The phone number she left for the outside world was always the landline at Guo Ge's house; she had never left the factory's number.
Thinking of how Guo Ge had gone to Pengcheng, that landline couldn't be reached.
Then the person calling her must have had something urgent.
"Did they say what it was about?" An Yinan asked hurriedly.
Xiaokang gave her a phone number.
"That person only said to have you call this number back." Xiaokang handed the slip of paper to An Yinan.
After seeing the digits on it, An Yinan rubbed her brow; her memory hadn't been enough lately.
"I need to go to Guo Ge's house to make a call," An Yinan said.
Chen Xun hurriedly stood up and draped a coat over her, "I'll go with you."
Xiaokang didn't speak, but he followed closely behind.
Without even finishing their meal, the three of them went to Guo Ge's house.
Nan Nan had always had the key to that place; it was one Guo Ge had specifically left for her.
Looking at the twenty-plus digits, An Yinan cross-referenced her old codebook and dialed a number.
"This is Jiang Zhen."
A deep, resonant voice came from the other end, directly stating his identity.
When An Yinan made this call, she already had some guesses in her heart; this codebook had long since been retired, and only a handful of people knew about it.
If her second aunt were calling her, she wouldn't need to be so secretive; even if there were some classified mission, she could easily come to the school to find her.
This call could only have come from Project 0.
"An Yinan." An Yinan only said three words on her end, representing her identity.
"Comrade An, the Project Department has a mission that urgently requires your help."
Jiang Zhen stated the reason directly, though he didn't say anything else.
After all, they were on the phone; all his information was being interfered with and encrypted, yet he still worried about the risk of leaks, so he said as little as possible and avoided saying what he could.
An Yinan frowned, holding the phone with one hand while stroking her belly with the other.
"Standing by for orders."
She said six words, representing her stance.
She was not a member of the Project Department, nor was she military personnel, so any mission involving a coalition of forces required her to be informed.
This was also the reason Jiang Zhen had called.
In the past, it could have gone through the Compilation Bureau, but now Fang Hong had said that any of her missions could only be agreed to by her personally; no one else could make the decision for her.
"Thank you." After Jiang Zhen expressed his thanks, he continued, "The military will contact you later."
"Alright." After An Yinan responded, both sides hung up the phone.
"Your health..." Chen Xun said with some concern.
An Yinan looked at him, "It's fine, it's just that the pregnancy reactions are a bit strong; I'll be fine once I adapt."
Project 0 was able to find her, so they must know her current situation; if it weren't a very important matter, they wouldn't be in such a rush to contact her.
Chen Xun and An Yinan didn't move, while Xiaokang exchanged greetings with the two of them and left the room.
He was a man from the military, so he naturally knew that the mission below was not something he was meant to know about.
As the two waited, three minutes passed, and the phone rang once again.
An Yinan answered the phone directly, "I am An Yinan."
A familiar voice came from the other end, "I am Yun Fei."
"Great Uncle?" An Yinan hadn't expected that this mission would actually be issued by her Great Uncle.
She had even thought of many people—it could have been the Compilation Bureau, or perhaps somewhere else—but she never expected it to reach the Military District Headquarters.
After all, the Military Region Scientific Research Department and the Military District Headquarters did not belong to the same branch.
"Chief Jiang just called you, so I won't say anything else. Someone will come to pick you up in a moment and take you directly to the airport. For your subsequent route, just follow the arrangements of the soldiers," Yun Fei instructed.
An Yinan replied immediately, "Understood."
"Give the phone to Chen Xun." An Yinan didn't know what Chen Xun had to do with this, but she still obediently handed the phone over.
"Chief Yun wants you to take the call."
Chen Xun looked deeply at An Yinan and put the phone to his ear, "Reporting to the Chief, I am Chen Xun."
"Chen Xun, your next mission is to protect An Yinan. Throughout the entire mission, you cannot leave her side; you must not be even an inch away," Yun Fei said solemnly.
There was an intention to look after Nan Nan, but it was more due to the special nature of this mission.
"Yes!" Chen Xun immediately accepted the mission.
"Prepare your things. In ten minutes, the people coming to pick you up will arrive."
"Yes!" Chen Xun replied.
After receiving the affirmative answer, Yun Fei hung up the phone directly, without giving any instructions or saying anything else.
Although he was the one in command and coordination for this mission, he was only responsible for the arrangements.
This batch of data was too important; this mission was by no means simple.
"Wife, you go home and wait first. I'll go tell Uncle, and Xiaokang is probably waiting outside too," Chen Xun arranged quickly.
An Yinan nodded; they both realized the seriousness of the situation.
Although she was not yet showing and was still in the early months of her pregnancy, she was very protective of her child.
She usually walked very carefully. Today, she returned to the courtyard, looked at the things around her, and packed some changes of clothes and toiletries into her bag. She didn't really care about the quantity, as she had these daily necessities in her space anyway.
However, she subconsciously put a handful of pebbles into her pocket.
