Chapter 80: Mission Accomplished
Li Tianyun cautiously followed the group led by Zhao Hu and his two brothers.
He knew the importance of this operation; it was mainly to prevent them from meeting up with other accomplices and posing a threat to the Li Family again.
Furthermore, Li Tianyun suspected there was a traitor in the family. Li Mo's travel times and locations were never fixed, so how did the Black Wind Stronghold happen to run into him? If no one had tipped them off, Li Tianyun would never believe it even if he died.
As the group marched on, Li Tianyun kept a constant watch on the movements of Zhao Hu and the other two. He noticed that although Zhao Hu's underlings were attempting to resist the government's pursuit,
Zhao Hu and his two companions appeared unusually calm and composed. They seemed to be looking for something, or perhaps waiting for something.
Li Tianyun felt a surge of joy; he understood that the three of them might be planning some kind of escape route, or looking for a place to rendezvous with other accomplices.
He dared not be the least bit careless, following the group closely and remaining ready at all times to deal with sudden developments.
During the tracking process, Li Tianyun constantly observed the surrounding environment and the crowd. He noticed that in a secluded alley, several figures were peering at them from the shadows.
Li Tianyun's heart stirred; he suspected these people might be Zhao Hu's accomplices, looking for an opportunity to stage a rescue.
However, Li Tianyun did not act rashly. He knew that the most important thing for him now was to remain calm and vigilant, and not let Zhao Hu and the others detect his presence. He continued to follow the group while secretly observing those suspicious figures.
Watching the figures in the corner finish their exchange and prepare to leave with Zhao Hu and the other lackeys.
Still not seeing the result he wanted, he decided to let it go; at the very least, he could not let these people escape right under his nose.
Li Tianyun decisively revealed himself and shouted loudly, "Little mice, is anyone else coming?" His voice echoed through the empty street, carrying an unquestionable majesty.
The figures in the shadows were instantly thrown into a panic upon hearing the voice, and someone screamed, "You've been followed by the Head of the Family of the Li Family! He is a great expert at the Blood Refining Late Stage! Damn it, brothers, fight for your lives! Don't bring shame upon Dandangjia!"
Li Tianyun sneered, watching as those lackeys recognized his identity but still prepared to put up a fight.
He shook his head and sighed, "Dandangjia Liu Dong is indeed capable to have trained them so well, but it's a pity—their strength is just a bit lacking."
No sooner had he finished speaking than Li Tianyun's figure flashed. The Long Sword in his hand turned into a silver ray of light, carving graceful arcs through the air. As the sword light flickered and shadows flew, accompanied by bursts of screams, the hot blood of dozens of people splattered against the walls, and dozens of fine heads fell to the ground.
Li Tianyun watched all of this silently, his expression unchanged. He knew these were merely Liu Dong's subordinates; the true mastermind had yet to appear.
But if the mastermind did not appear soon, he would stop wasting time on the investigation and simply kill these people.
Just then, the sound of government soldiers arriving late came from behind. Li Tianyun looked back to see a squad of soldiers, led by their commander, approaching rapidly.
He cupped his hands to the leader and said, "Many thanks to County Assistant Lin for sending troops to save us, otherwise my Li Family would have truly faced a great disaster."
County Assistant Lin returned the salute and smiled, "It is only right, only right. The Li Family is the pillar of the county; our government naturally cannot sit idly by. Afterwards, you and I shall drink and chat to discuss the future of the county."
Li Tianyun nodded, a look of gratitude appearing on his face. He knew that being able to successfully repel Liu Dong's subordinates this time was thanks to County Assistant Lin's timely aid. From now on, he would certainly act with even greater caution.
Cheng Feng lay on the table; although his body was still somewhat weak, his consciousness was completely clear.
He listened quietly to the movements around him, wondering if anyone would come to finish off these two people.
If someone did, he would give them a surprise; if not, he would simply act as if he knew nothing.
Not until the next morning did a series of surprised shouts from the Li Mansion break the silence. Cheng Feng's heart stirred, and he immediately realized this might be news regarding Li Mo's rescue. He endured his physical discomfort, slowly sat up, and tilted his head to listen.
Sure enough, shortly after, news arrived that Li Mo had been successfully rescued.
For Cheng Feng, this news was undoubtedly a huge piece of good news. The crisis had passed.
This also meant they could breathe a sigh of relief for the time being, without worrying about anyone coming to launch a sneak attack at night.
As Lin Zhi beside him showed signs of slowly waking up, Cheng Feng naturally coordinated to wake up with him.
Upon waking, Lin Zhi realized he had been drugged.
Fortunately, he hadn't been secretly slaughtered.
He exchanged a glance with Cheng Feng, preparing to confess voluntarily; since they had been drugged, something must have happened last night.
The food and drink in front of them were still there, which could prove they had been drugged.
The steward didn't say much after hearing this, first having people watch Cheng Feng and the other, then calling a doctor over to confirm.
After some commotion, Cheng Feng and the other were naturally released.
Over the next two days, Cheng Feng remained vigilant. He kept a constant eye on the movements within the Li Mansion, fearing any sign of trouble.
He didn't want to be flipped at the very end; the mission had a time limit, and it would be over in two more days.
Finally, after two days of waiting, Cheng Feng received the silver from the Li Family. He received the thirty taels of silver he was owed, and his heart was filled with immense joy. It perfectly exceeded the limit.
But when Cheng Feng heard that Li Mo's ransom was two thousand taels, he went completely numb.
He was still struggling for a house worth one hundred taels, yet a family descendant had a personal net worth of two thousand taels.
Is there any justice in this???
Cheng Feng even had the thought of robbing Li Mo.
Later, he calmed his mood and secretly kept this matter in his heart; in the future, he would also become a wealthy man.
He knew that kidnapping the eldest young master of the Li Family was a matter that wasn't over yet.
The entire Li Family had lost a great deal of face.
Out of consideration for Li Mo having just returned, Cheng Feng felt embarrassed to bring up the matter of Medical Skill.
The whole affair had nothing to do with him anyway.
This was all a game of chess between the Li Family, the government, the Black Wind Stronghold, and other factions.
He was just a student of a Martial Arts Hall, a lone wanderer, right?
Taking the money and resolving the disaster was Cheng Feng's proper path.
Thus, Cheng Feng put the silver away and headed straight home.
As for the matter of Medical Skill, he would talk about it later.
After the news of Li Mo's successful rescue spread throughout the entire Li Family, the whole family was immersed in laughter and joy.
Everyone in the Li Family felt fortunate and happy for Li Mo's return, and the family's cohesion was greatly strengthened at this moment.
However, the Li Family's upper echelon did not relax their vigilance because of this joy. They knew deeply that this incident exposed the problem of traitors existing within the family; these traitors were enemies of the entire Li Family and posed a serious threat to the family's safety. Therefore, they decided to immediately launch a cleanup operation to ferret out these traitors one by one and punish them severely.
While cleaning out the traitors, the Li Family was also actively consolidating their strength, preparing to encircle and suppress the mountain bandits. They knew the mountain bandits were one of the masterminds behind this incident, and in order to completely eliminate this hidden danger, the Li Family decided to exhaust all their efforts, cooperating with the government to launch a massive encirclement and suppression campaign against the bandits.
"Since the money has been taken and the person is safe, it is now time for the Li Family to make a move," a high-ranking member of the Li Family said firmly at the meeting. His words were filled with determination.
In the days that followed, the Li Family worked together with one heart, cleaning out traitors on one hand and preparing for the operation to suppress the mountain bandits on the other. They organized an elite family armed force and worked closely with the government troops to formulate a meticulous battle plan.
Preparing to take revenge on Black Wind Stronghold had nothing to do with Cheng Feng; right now, he only wanted to go and buy his own courtyard.
