Chapter 24: She's just an ordinary high school student, right?!

~7 min read 1,303 words

Shu Shu lifted her head and directly caught a momentary tense expression on the woman's face.

"I'm telling you, student, why are you messing with the patient's medicine? Don't you know this easily contaminates the pills? This imported special-effect medicine is expensive!"

Shu Shu curled her lip and asked: "Is this really the special-effect medicine that can treat chest pain?"

"Yeah, otherwise what?" The woman in the white coat gave a suspicious look, her expression not good, turned to look at Shu Lingchen, and accused: "Xiao Chen, what's up with your classmate? Coming over to look at the medicine and smell it—are you afraid I'm adding something fake?"

Before Shu Lingchen could answer, she said again: "You've been getting medicine from me for how many years? When has your Aunt Chu ever had any problems after taking it?"

"No, no, Aunt Liu, you've misunderstood."

Shu Lingchen was also puzzled, looking at Shu Shu with incomprehension, silently indicating: "Mom, what's going on?"

"Ah, sorry, I was just curious." Shu Shu put the medicine bottle back with a well-behaved expression, then took out her phone, aimed at the payment QR code, and said: "Is it five thousand one for a pair?"

"Yes."

Upon hearing the successful payment notification, the woman's expression finally eased.

But the next second.

She saw Shu Shu, without a moment's hesitation, exit the payment interface and switch directly to the dialing function, decisively pressing the three digits 110.

In the astonished gaze of Shu Lingchen and the woman's utter disbelief, Shu Shu held the phone to her ear and said clearly: "Hello, I want to report the police. This pharmacy is selling fake medicine, and we have both human and material evidence."

Coincidentally, the police station is right next door.

Less than two minutes later, two police officers arrived at the door, one wearing a law enforcement recorder on his chest, and asked: "Who called the police?"

Shu Shu was about to raise her hand.

"It's a misunderstanding, officer, it's all a misunderstanding." The woman in the white coat stepped forward first, gave Shu Shu a sideways glance, and told the police: "It's just this little girl playing a prank; she's just a student, knows nothing, can't understand foreign text, so——"

Before she could finish, Shu Shu picked up a bottle of medicine and directly recited several strings of English drug terms: "Then tell me, which of these ingredients actually has the effect of treating chest pain?"

The woman's voice cut off abruptly, and she looked at Shu Shu in near shock.

Her expression seemed to say, how could she possibly say those drug names so fluently?

She's just an ordinary high school student, right?!

"Besides——" Shu Shu crossed her arms: "The pills inside the bottle have nothing to do with what's written on the label; they're all just vitamins. Don't tell me this is an imported vitamin that can treat chest pain."

As she finished speaking, the woman in the white coat's face turned pale, her eyes widened, her expression grew more terrified: "You……" How do you know?!

……

Even after sitting in the police station lobby, Shu Lingchen's mind was still in a daze.

Not long after Shu Shu finished her statement, a police officer came over to inform her that the woman in the white coat at the pharmacy had confessed.

Those in the bottle were indeed not the so-called imported special-effect medicine for treating chest pain; the packaging was an empty bottle left over from some health product, and what was inside was exactly vitamins.

"Too much!" Shu Lingchen jumped up angrily, his messy hair making his face turn ashen, he clenched his fists, longing to rush over and beat the woman in the white coat: "She's actually a scammer!"

He looked at Shu Shu, a relieved smile on his face, and whispered: "Mom, you're amazing, you could tell the medicine was problematic—if we'd bought it back for Aunt Chu to take, we'd have run into serious trouble! This black-hearted woman!"

Shu Shu raised an eyebrow, saying nothing.

She thought.

"You little brat, things aren't that simple, huh."

At that moment, a struggle sound suddenly came from the lobby entrance.

"What right do you have to arrest me? What crime have I committed?!"

The voice sounded so familiar, Shu Lingchen immediately turned his head, then froze: "Aunt Chu?!"

The two female officers were "requesting" none other than Chumu herself.

"Aunt Chu? How—how did you end up here?"

One officer said: "This person is related to a fraud case; we brought her in for routine questioning."

"……Fraud, fraud case?" Shu Lingchen was stunned, his first reaction disbelief: "How could that be? How could my Aunt Chu be involved in a fraud case?!"

Who knew, the female officer looked over and said: "Your name is Shu Lingchen, right?"

Shu Lingchen: "Yeah."

The female officer nodded: "Alright, come over and give a statement; you're the victim in this fraud case."

Shu Lingchen was full of question marks: "???" What the heck?

Shu Shu silently watched Shu Lingchen's back as he entered the office, calm as if she had anticipated what would happen next.

Sigh.

The little dimwitted son still doesn't know he's about to attend a profound life lesson.

…

Shu Lingchen was truly dumbfounded.

He sat clueless at the table, and the officer opposite asked: "How long have you been buying the special-effect medicine at that pharmacy?"

Shu Lingchen thought and calculated: "... About eight years, I buy it once a month."

"Any breaks in between?"

Shu Lingchen said: "No." How could it be interrupted—this is Aunt Chu's "life-saving medicine."

"How much does each purchase cost?"

"It's always been five thousand one."

"Hmm." The officer tapped the keyboard to record, then continued: "This Luoping, aka the Aunt Chu you refer to, what is she to you?"

Shu Lingchen hardly hesitated: "Family, elder."

"According to our information, there is no blood relation between you two."

"Then she's still my elder."

The officer asked again: "Is this special-effect medicine something you proactively bought for Luoping, or did Luoping ask you to buy it for her?"

"……" Shu Lingchen puzzled: "No, why are you asking me all this?"

Please cooperate with the questioning first—did you voluntarily want to buy, or was it Luoping who demanded it?

Shu Lingchen exhaled: "I bought it voluntarily. When I was little I had a fever, and Aunt Chu, because she braved the rain to take me to the hospital, ended up with a lingering illness; she needs to take this special-effect medicine, otherwise she'll get chest pains. This is what I ought to do for Aunt Chu."

I don't know if it was Shu Lingchen's illusion, but after he finished speaking, the two officers opposite him exchanged a glance for no reason, and then, when they turned their heads to look at him, their eyes showed clear sympathy.

Shu Lingchen: "???"

The police turned the laptop around, pointed the screen at Shu Lingchen, and said, "Take a look at this first."

Shu Lingchen looked over, bewildered.

The space bar was pressed, and a video played; the background was the police station's interrogation room, and the woman seated in the center turned out to be the woman in the white coat from the pharmacy.

The seriousness of selling fake medicine is not low; it is directly a malicious criminal case, and causing adverse effects means going to jail.

Obviously the woman in the video also realized this, and she wailed tearfully, protesting her innocence:

"I didn't harm anyone! This is something I colluded with Luoping on—she tricked that boy named Shu Lingchen into thinking his health deteriorated because he took him to the hospital, making him come here every month to spend five thousand on this special-effect medicine, which is actually just vitamins, and Luoping knows it too!"
