Chapter 39: No one will worry about me

~7 min read 1,234 words

Shu Shu stared for a moment, then chuckled: "This shop never said only good-looking people can eat here, besides, appearance shouldn't be the standard to judge a person, there's no need to fall into this emotional dilemma."

No one had ever said such things to her…… Pei Muyin raised her hand, slowly taking off her mask, revealing her whole face.

The girl had a pair of striking peach-blossom eyes; although her face was chubby, it did not hide the delicacy of her features, her skin was so smooth that not a single blemish could be seen, her cheeks were baby-fat with a white complexion flushed with red.

How is this ugly? She's clearly pretty.

Just like when Shu Shu first saw her at the dessert shop that day, she couldn't help but have starry eyes.

What a cute girl, her cuteness makes her want to ruffle her!

Shu Lingchen also stared for a moment, seriously asking Pei Muyin: "Are you being abstract?" Intentionally saying the opposite to call herself ugly.

Shu Shu looked at the Musi kid opposite her and said: "You're clearly good-looking, why would you think you're ugly?"

After taking off her mask, Pei Muyin was nervous and didn't dare lift her head for a while; hearing Shu Shu say the words "good-looking", she somewhat startled lifted her head.

"Yes…… everyone thinks that, I'm not only not good-looking, but also very fat……" As she spoke, she also retracted her plump hand that had been resting on the table, as if ashamed to be seen, under the table.

Shu Shu: "Everyone?"

"Hmm……" Pei Muyin nodded: "It's, my classmates, they privately gave me many pig-related nicknames, and……"

"And her grandmother, her grandmother always said she was not presentable, basically unworthy of the identity of the Pei family's Eldest Young Lady."

The girl's soft voice was as low as a mosquito, obviously lacking confidence to the extreme.

Shu Shu unconsciously frowned, feeling a bit uncomfortable in her chest; from Pei Muyin's appearance, she could imagine what kind of unhealthy environment the girl usually stays in.

Mostly it's belittlement, which makes her feel so inferior about herself.

Shu Shu's voice unconsciously softened: "I don't know why these people would give you such an evaluation, but their intentions surely aren't kind; since they aren't kind, there's no need to pay attention, anyway, the 'everyone' you refer to doesn't include me—I think you're very pretty."

Shu Lingchen beside her interjected: "Damn, whoever dares to give me such a nickname, I'll just kick them flying——"

As he spoke he wanted to demonstrate his flying kick, but suddenly remembering his mother was nearby, he immediately restrained himself.

"Let's eat first." Shu Shu said with a smile: "Aren't you hungry? Dig in quickly."

Pei Muyin's eyes glimmered, she only felt a slight soreness in her chest, she nodded and picked up her chopsticks.

All the dishes have been served.

Shu Shu occasionally gave Shu Lingchen some food.

This little dimwit's living expenses were completely swindled by the Chu family mother and daughter, his quality of life was low and perfunctory.

Since Shu Shu returned, she has intentionally improved his meals; teenagers are at the age of growing their bodies, hoping he eats more.

Opposite, Pei Muyin looked on eagerly as Shu Shu moved the ribs, unconsciously stopping her own eating motion.

Shu Shu's peripheral vision noticed her pause, she looked up and met eyes full of envy and longing.

For some reason, Shu Shu's hand paused, then, as if possessed, she turned the direction of the next rib she had picked up, and placed it onto Pei Muyin's plate in front of her, under her increasingly bright gaze.

"Th-thank you, sister." Pei Muyin was overwhelmed with surprise, the Musi sister had given her ribs!

"You're welcome."

It's just passing a dish, yet this kid is so satisfied; Shu Shu curled her lips, feeling a soft ache in her chest.

So she gave Pei Muyin more dishes several times.

…

Dinner ended in a quiet warmth.

Walking to the cashier, Pei Muyin directly pulled out her small bag, took out a black card to pay.

Stopped by Shu Shu, who scanned the payment code with her phone first: "As agreed, I'm treating."

Pei Muyin blinked her eyes, then had to put the card away, not having paid; she seemed still a bit disappointed.

The meal was also finished, it was time to say goodbye.

Shu Shu asked Pei Muyin where she lived and how to get home.

Pei Muyin said: "I have a driver following me; she's waiting at the entrance."

Shu Shu followed Pei Muyin's words and looked outside, indeed seeing a black shiny car quietly parked across the street.

"Sister, I'm very happy to have eaten with you today." Pei Muyin said sincerely.

The ignored Shu Lingchen beside them exclaimed: "Am I not a person? So eating with me isn't very happy."

"No, I didn't mean that." Pei Muyin explained flusteredly.

"Ignore him." Shu Shu gave Shu Lingchen a sideways glance, then turned and smiled at Pei Muyin: "Eating with you also makes me happy."

"Then, goodbye?"

"... Hmm, goodbye."

After saying that, Pei Muyin walked out reluctantly, after three or four steps she turned back to glance at Shu Shu.

Just as she was about to reach the car door, Shu Shu shouted after her back: "Hey, right, Xiao Musi, I forgot to ask what your name is?"

Pei Muyin immediately stopped, turned around, and savored in her mind that Shu Shu had called her Xiao Musi.

It's a very affectionate form of address.

"Xiao Musi?" She asked with bright eyes: "Sister, I really like you calling me that; can you keep calling me that?"

"Uh, of course." This kid's train of thought is really kinda cute; after agreeing, Shu Shu introduced herself: "My name is Shu Shu; the first character is 'shu' from book, the second is 'shu' from relaxed."

"Shu, Shu."

Pei Muyin silently repeated those two characters in her mouth, then seriously nodded: "Mm-hmm, I've remembered!"

The black car drove off.

Seeing the license plate at the rear, Shu Shu blinked—it turned out to be a Jing Shi plate.

She naturally assumed the Musi kid was a local of An Shi.

How could someone from Jing Shi, so far away, come to An Shi?

Shu Lingchen beside her exclaimed in surprise: "Wow! It's even a consecutive number! A row of six! That's too cool!"

…

Shu Shu thought that her fate with the Musi child had probably ended yesterday.

The next day after school, she saw her again.

"Sister, you treated me to a meal yesterday; can I treat you to a meal today?"

Pei Muyin walked over slowly.

Shu Shu saw that she looked like she had been waiting for her for a long time; she was young, so she should still be in school.

"You, don't you have to go to class?"

Pei Muyin lowered her eyes guiltily: "I... skipped class."

"Ah?" Shu Shu frowned, suddenly recalling the Jing Shi license plate she had seen yesterday; the four words "ran away from home" automatically came to mind: "Why are you skipping class? You've run out like this, aren't you afraid your family will worry?"

Pei Muyin shook her head.

"No, no one will worry about me; Sister, I've actually been skipping class for four days, but I haven't received any text messages or calls."
