Chapter 55: Moving Down to Live Together
Time seemed to slip away like sand in an hourglass unnoticed; Pei Muyin had finished all her homework, but she still held the pen in her hand, not putting it down.
She wanted to linger a while, then linger a while longer before going home.
But the sky outside had already turned completely dark; she couldn't drag it out any longer, so she could only reluctantly pack her homework notebook slowly back into her bag.
Beside her, Shu Shu wanted to speak but held back, watching her daughter's every move, racking her brains for a reason that wouldn't seem abrupt to keep her daughter staying.
The fruit was eaten, the milk drunk, and the homework finished.
It seemed all usable excuses had been exhausted.
"Sister, I'm home."
Pei Muyin obediently shouldered her bag and walked toward the entryway.
Shu Shu followed her to the entryway, watching as the door gave two clicks and a crack opened—a gap signaling that her daughter was about to leave.
"Muyin—" Just as Pei Muyin stepped out with one foot, Shu Shu called out to her, blurting: "Muyin, can you not leave? Stay here."
Seeing the girl's stunned expression, she realized her words were abrupt; Shu Shu pressed her lips: "What I mean is, wouldn't it be boring for you to live upstairs alone? Anyway, there are many empty rooms here—would you like to… just move down and live with us?"
Her voice unconsciously softened: "Sorry, was that a bit frightening? If you don't want to, then—"
Before she could finish, Pei Muyin was so happy she seemed about to jump: "Sister, I'll go pack my things right now!"
Pei Muyin's earlier stunned silence wasn't from being frightened, but from being overwhelmed with joy.
Her mind was filled with——"Sister said what! She said I can move down to live! I can live with her!"
Is this real? Really not a dream?
In the girl's peach-blossom eyes, stars seemed to twinkle.
Shu Shu let out a breath, curling her lips: "Then put your bag here; I'll go up with you."
…
They took the elevator to the seventeenth floor.
Pei Muyin placed her finger on the handle sensor; the door popped out, she pressed a row of lights, and the entryway all the way to the hall lit up.
"Sister."
Pei Muyin greeted Shu Shu to come inside.
Upon entering, Shu Shu found the layout similar to her neighboring unit 1701, except the orientation was left-right reversed; the interior decoration had a modern refined feel, and the rooms were clean and tidy.
Pei Muyin took a bottle of juice from the fridge and handed it to Shu Shu: "Sister, wait here for me; I'm going to tidy up."
Shu Shu: "Do you want my help?"
"No, no, I can do it myself." Pei Muyin shook her head, hesitated a moment, then turned and said: "Sister, do you want to come with me to wait in the bedroom?"
"Sure."
Shu Shu certainly wouldn't refuse; she also wanted to see her daughter's bedroom.
The door pushed open—it was the master bedroom.
What met the eyes was a warm color scheme; the room was carpeted with soft wool, stepping on it felt like stepping on fluffy clouds, while the ceiling light happened to be an adorable cloud-shaped warm lamp, and the ceiling itself was a whole expanse of splendid starry sky.
The whole room had been renovated into a cozy, beautiful princess-themed room.
Shu Shu blinked, suddenly recalling what Shu Lingchen had said: unit 1702 was a freshly renovated wedding apartment bought temporarily from a neighbor.
And the master bedroom of a wedding apartment is normally where a young couple lives; it's generally unlikely to be renovated into a princess room.
This could only mean that after purchase, the place was deliberately arranged like this……
Pei Muyin darted back and forth between the room and the closet like a happy little squirrel, stuffing things into a small suitcase.
Change of clothes, pajamas, and a stuffed bear to hug while sleeping.
She had to take this, that too; the suitcase was stuffed full, giving off an air of wanting to bid this house a final farewell and never return.
Shu Shu sat on the soft stool beside the vanity, propping her chin with one hand, watching the girl run back and forth, the light in her eyes soft beyond words.
Her heart went soft, melted by her daughter's cuteness.
Almost done packing, Pei Muyin suddenly remembered something and looked at her snack cabinet.
"Oh right, there are still her snacks."
But the suitcase was already full, no room left; moreover, bringing too many things to Sister Muyin's place might not be appropriate.
She couldn't do that; it seemed she could only bear the pain and let go.
(? ^?).
Thus, Pei Muyin stood before the snack cabinet, pinching her fingers, silently beginning to say goodbye in her heart.
Goodbye my little cakes, goodbye my chocolate, goodbye my chips……
When she was saying goodbye to the little biscuits, Shu Shu spoke up: "Bring all your snacks along."
Pei Muyin suddenly turned, her face full of "Can I really? Really can?"
Shu Shu smiled and nodded.
Just then, the girl had been eyeing the snacks longingly, that deep reluctance almost spilling over.
Shu Shu then pulled out her phone and sent a voice message to Shu Lingchen, asking him to bring an extra-large suitcase upstairs.
Not long after, he arrived upstairs.
The suitcase was big enough, large enough to fit all the snacks.
"Little cakes, little biscuits, chocolate—we're moving to our new home, okay."
Pei Muyin packed the snacks tightly, then unconsciously said happily in a low voice; after speaking, she remembered someone else was nearby and immediately froze, embarrassed.
——Only a weird person would talk to snacks, right.
Oh no…… I'm going to be seen as a weird person by Sister Muyin.
Pei Muyin panicked, not daring to lift her head, but caught in her peripheral vision Shu Shu's gentle voice as she cheerfully addressed the snacks in the box: "Little cakes, little biscuits, chocolate, welcome to the new home."
Pei Muyin stared blankly, then turned her head to meet Shu Shu's smiling gaze; the latter gave her a playful raise of the eyebrows.
Shu Shu's hand still went around to Shu Lingchen's back and patted it.
Under the intense gaze of mother, although unaware of why to talk to snacks, Shu Lingchen still did so, dazedly bending over and saying to the snacks: "Oh, oh. Welcome, welcome."
Instantly, Pei Muyin's eyes looking at Shu Shu and Shu Lingchen sparkled.
…
Returning to 1600, Shu Shu turned on the lights of all empty rooms, letting Pei Muyin choose a new room.
Muyin, you can live in whichever room you want.
Pei Muyin blinked, stopping at the doorway of Shu Shu's room.
Shu Shu wondered: "Do you want to stay in my room? Then I'll change the bedsheet and tidy up for you."
"... No, older sister."
Pei Muyin called out to Shu Shu, then didn't continue speaking, just kept looking at Shu Shu.
Then Shu Shu understood the girl's gaze, asking: "You, do you want to share a room with me?"
Pei Muyin immediately nodded eagerly like a pecking chick.
Shu Shu raised her lips: "Good."
At the same time she silently thought, "Of course you can, baby; I'll agree to any request you make."
…
Most of the rooms in the house come with their own washroom.
Shu Shu let Pei Muyin use the master bedroom's washroom, taught her how to use the water, then went to the washroom of another room herself.
Shu Lingchen also returned to their own room.
Shu Shu finished her shower, turned off the main light, and from the pitch-black living room returned to the brightly lit bedroom just as Pei Muyin also finished her shower—
