While none of them appeared injured, he could truthfully say he had never seen S Rank mages looking so ragged.

Several of them had broken armor and torn clothes. It was very clear they had been in a desperate struggle and Damion was worried at the strength of what could force four S Ranks to that state.

“Damion,” Mage Teft greeted when her group arrived at the passageway back to the A Rank floors. “How long have you been training here?”

“A few weeks. Being able to take in higher density mana helps me push my magic power up at a greater rate.”

“It is also a great way to get yourself killed,” she admonished. “If you take in mana too strong for your body to contain…”

“I know my limits,” Damion cut her off with a smile. “Did you all find the mid-point? Or will we need to ask Mage Thresbane for assistance?”

“We don’t know if we reached the mid-point or not, but we did encounter an SS Rank floor. The guardian on that floor was too much for us to handle.”

“Why didn’t any of you stay on that floor to train?” Damion could not help but ask.

“We have all felt the difference in mana between S and SS Rank now, to stay simply to raise our magic power is not necessary at this point. Once we are closer to the threshold it would be beneficial, but for now we are focused on exploration.”

Damion was at first puzzled, but then he recalled that not everyone had the same tenacity for training as him. The S Rank team had gone in to find out how deep they could go, and they had reached an SS Rank floor. It was best to leave to regroup and discuss the best way to move forward. Staying would just delay a solution being found.

“You seem to have been doing something more than just training,” Mage Levine said, looking at the Demonic Beast skeletons that Nyx had left behind.

Damion had cleared a few of them up, ones where the bones were useful in artifacts, but most he had left. Now he realized it was quite an awkward scene; Demonic Beast remains scattered about along with various discarded items he had used in the construction of the grimoire. Damion did not want to let on about Nyx, even though he trusted Mage Levine and the others, he felt the Shadow Cat was more valuable as an ambusher and for that to be successful, no one could know.

“Just a bit of artifact crafting while I trained. I suppose I should accompany you out then,” Damion said, sidestepping the issue. The S Rankers all had their own secrets, so they would not begrudge Damion a few of his own, so they did not push. He was certain that he would be needed for the planning that was sure to come as a result of their discovery, so they all began to leave.

After a few uneventful hours of flying from entrance to exit across the floors, the group emerged from the labyrinth. When Damion stepped into the containment chamber, Nyx expressed a desire to come out of his shadow for a look around, but he quickly told the Shadow Cat to stay hidden. If he revealed the Shadow Cat now, it would be only a matter of hours before everyone in Atlantis knew about his new companion and at most days before the news was sent to the other White Zones.

The S Rankers all went to clean up and rest, agreeing to meet first thing the next day. This left Damion free to head home and spend time with his family.

After walking in the door Damion was greeted with halfhearted smiles from his parents as Elicia gave him a scowl and Helge stumbled over to cling to his leg. Clearly, his family was not happy that he had spent a month training in the labyrinth, even though he had said he would not be gone long.

Thankfully, Damion did not have the break the silence, Nyx did that for him. Having sensed from his mind that this was home, the Shadow Cat sprang out of his shadow, startling everyone.

“Don’t worry!” Damion hastily called out. “This is Nyx, my new bonded familiar.”

You could be reading stolen content. Head to NovelBin for the genuine story.

Damion had barely gotten the words out of his mouth when there was a commotion at the door, Phil had flown down from his perch and was squeezing its way through the door. The Blizzard King and Shadow Cat immediately looked at each, but neither showed hostile intent. In the wild two such predators would be competition, but because they both shared a bond with Damion, they were linked in their purpose of protecting him and his family.

Phil had only rushed into action when Nyx had startled the family. Now that the Blizzard King saw that the Shadow Cat was not a threat, they were familiarizing themselves with one another.

"You modified your familiar spell?” Elicia asked, even though the answer seemed apparent.

“Yes. I also crafted something for you, but I’m not sure how well it will work.”

Elicia’s stern look softened when she heard Damion had made something for her. Eager to find out what her gift was she hurriedly took Helge from him and passed the toddler on to Sharon.

“So, what did you make for me?”

Damion took out the grimoire pendant and showed it to her. Elicia looked at the necklace in disbelief for a moment, the silver mithril mixed with aurichalcum was mesmerizing, but she could not work out how he had crafted such a beautiful necklace inside the labyrinth.

“It’s amazing, but how did you…”

“I carry a lot of things around with me. During my downtime I worked on it. I had prepared most everything ahead of time,” Damion told her before she could fully ask her question. “This is also a grimoire. I adjusted things a little bit, so I could construct it without linking with it. Once you put it on, it should link with you and become locked to you.”

“A grimoire? The artifact you said would let people learn spells without imprinting them on their cores?”

“Yes. This is actually a bit of an experiment. You should be able to have it store Wind affinity spells and use those with no problem…”

“But not spells of other affinities,” Elicia finished.

“Right. You won’t be able to use spells with affinities, but I think there might be other spells you can use, ones that don’t have a set affinity.”

“What?”

“Just put it on.”

Elicia did as instructed and a moment after the necklace was resting on her neck she could sense a connection to it. There was nothing inside, but she distinctly felt that if she wanted, she could have the grimoire read a magic seal to store a spell and once it had one, it would be able to help her cast the spell.

“Now have it record this,” Damion raised his palm and displayed the magic seal for True Sight. The passive spell was his least costly passive, requiring only 1 mana per second to maintain. He had realized a serious drawback in passing on his passives, which was that not everyone would be able to make use of them, even if he shared them all.

High Rankers would likely be able to keep a few active, but mid and low Rank mages would struggle even with one. Still, that did not mean they could not activate them when needed, but that greatly reduced their usefulness.

Having them active all the time provided insights and protection, even if you were caught unaware by an attack they would be useful. Not to mention the constant drain and restoration of mana helped to train your body and core, making raising your magic power easier in the long run.

“This… this is amazing,” Elicia said as she looked around the room. True Sight was revealing to her the Rank of everything she looked at. “Is this how you see the world?”

"I’ve had the spell for a while, but no way to share it, since people couldn’t learn spells that were not their affinity, until now.”

“Is this the spell you use to identify Realm Breaches and people’s affinities?”

“Yes. It can do both of those, but you will have to raise your mastery of the spell to B Rank before you can detect a person’s affinity.”

“What would it say for yours?” Elicia asked. Since he had multiple affinities, she was curious what it would show once she reached that level of mastery.

“It would just say mage.”

“Oh. Do you have other spells like this?”

“I have other spells that don’t have an affinity, I call them passive spells, but they cost mana to keep active. If you have too many active at one, you can easily deplete your mana or fall into mana exhaustion.”

“I see your point,” Elicia thought for a moment before continuing. “How about I train with this one on for a while and if all goes well you give me another in a few weeks. That way I will slowly increase my abilities.”

“I think we can do that,” Damion told her. He had already thought of this. Of course, just raising the body’s tolerance for using mana would not change a person’s mana regeneration rate, but he did not want to dampen her mood.

“Now, are you going to tell me what you were doing all this time?”

“Training takes time and I need to be as strong as possible for what is coming,” Damion said.

“We are all aware of that, but we were worried, plus that tramp Parivar kept coming by looking for you.”

It took Damion a few moments to think of who Elicia was referring to before he recalled Yara Parivar, the mage with the Transformation affinity. Because of her affinity, being able to shift into all sorts of creatures, she wore a special outfit that could stretch and shift with her, unfortunately, it was also form fitting, leaving little to the imagination which gave Elicia the impression the woman was trying to seduce her man.

“Did she say why she was looking for me?” Damion asked innocently.

“No. I told her you were off training and did not want to be disturbed. But since you are out of the labyrinth, I’m sure she will be here first thing .”

“In that case, I won’t need to worry about her for now. First thing tomorrow, I’m going to meet with the council, they reached the SS Rank floors.”
",1831,"2026-06-06T08:58:09.299Z",1,"novelbin.me","5264be155e6d8777b4a9c08ba64f3a4828f13d26d37eb9660dd60f731396fea9","reborn-with-a-magic-system-chapter-441","reborn-with-a-magic-system-chapter-439",459,"https://novelzhen.com/images/covers/reborn-with-a-magic-system-cover.jpg"]
