Chapter 183: The Land of Slumber
Wu Tie narrowed his eyes, watching the six Life Pool Realm experts beside Lao Daofeng make their moves.
They were using six blood-colored curved blades almost identical to Lao Daofeng's blood-colored curved blade.
Obviously, Lao Daofeng's blade is the genuine article, while their six are mere imitations; in material and forging technique, they are far inferior.
However, their seven blades of light seemed to form a rather mysterious blade formation.
The blade auras from the six low-quality curved blades unexpectedly resonated with Lao Daofeng's blood-colored curved blade.
Under the impetus and empowerment of Lao Daofeng's blood-colored curved blade, the power of the seven blades of light increased layer by layer; each successive blade of light was definitely strengthened by a third compared to the previous one.
At first Desa could easily block these blade strikes, but after thousands of blades fell, his movements became much slower and his roars grew weak and feeble.
"Unfair… unfair… Lord Desa's wounds haven't healed… you can't gang up on the wounded Lord Desa."
Desa frantically swung his long tail; the gleaming black tail hook trailed sharp black light, constantly clashing with the blades, emitting piercing, shrill cries.
Lao Daofeng laughed ferociously, urging the blade light with ever greater effort; the sky-full blade aura spun like a meat grinder, firmly trapping Desa in the center.
What is fairness?
The Blood Curved Blade is no orthodox sect; they've done plenty of killing and arson, looting homes—they excel at outnumbering foes, at ganging up… who told you about fairness?
In the Black Serpent Domain, there is only life and death, no fairness.
"Attack together, take him down!" Lao Daofeng roared: "Kill him, avenge our fallen brothers… this primeval creature's flesh and blood are remarkably potent."
Lao Daofeng's face flushed with excitement: "Everyone gets a piece of scorpion meat; maybe it'll let you break through a realm—what a great thing!"
One of the Life Pool Realm elders beside Lao Daofeng also shouted excitedly: "And this scorpion shell—we've hacked at it with countless blades and still can't cut it open; it's a fine treasure, a fine treasure!"
The Blood Curved Blade's hundred or so Chonglou Realm cultivators burst into laughter.
They didn't get close to Desa, who was being hacked at by the blade light; instead they stood far away, each unleashing divine abilities and secret arts in a chaotic barrage at Desa.
These Chonglou Realm cultivators of the Blood Curved Blade obviously have unremarkable lineage; their divine abilities and secret arts are mostly fireballs, fire pillars, wind blades, ice balls, and the like.
A mere handful of three or five stronger ones can summon from thin air bowl-thick bolts of lightning to barrage Desa; this lightning secret art is already their strongest technique.
Wu Tie drew a deep breath, hoisted the White Tiger Split, widened his eyes and let out a loud roar; then a bluish-white fireball several meters in diameter appeared above his head, quickly compressing to the size of a human head, and with a wave of heat it shot straight at Desa.
One fireball, two fireballs, three fireballs…
In the span of a breath, Wu Tie hurled over a hundred high-temperature compressed fireballs at Desa.
Desa, unable to dodge the sky-filling blade light, was bombarded by Wu Tie's fireballs; they exploded, the blast shaking a hundred miles, waves of scorching heat sweeping all directions; Desa's black crystal shell faintly reddened—the temperature of Wu Tie's fireballs was truly too high.
"You… you… rely on numbers… Lord Desa is also muddle-headed… more people? Heh, you're overthinking it."
Desa suddenly let out a frantic, piercing whistle.
With his whistle, a black light shot from the doorway at the base of the Pyramid; the thin black light spread like water, quickly expanding outward; in a snap it reached the feet of Wu Tie and the others, forming a vast black-light plaza beneath them.
A low thudding of footsteps came; ranks of jackal-headed beings about three meters tall, clad in golden armor, their black skin bearing strange-shaped weapons, marched out of the Pyramid in orderly formation.
These jackal-headed beings were lean and fierce; their golden armor protected only the vital chest and abdomen, revealing beneath their black limb skin blocks of iron-forged, powerful muscle.
Their skin was pitch black, save for two crimson eyes; when they occasionally opened their mouths to let out a low growl, a mouthful of sharp white teeth could be seen.
From within the Pyramid poured ever more jackal-headed beings; in just a few breaths nearly ten thousand jackal-headed warriors surged out. These fellows were utterly deathly still, leaking no aura, and it was impossible to gauge their true strength.
"Charge for Lord Desa! Chop them up!" Lord Desa bellowed in anger: "No, no, just keep three or five… we must obey Lord Osiris's edict… keep only three or five alive."
Wu Tie's eye twitched.
What rules did Osiris leave? What rules?
Damn it, Desa seemed at first not to intend to attack, just muttering nonsense; it was Lao Daofeng's few words that broke the talk, his sneak attack that enraged Desa.
Nevertheless, regardless of who's right or wrong, those jackal-headed warriors have already rushed over.
Wu Tie waved his hand; dozens of large fireballs condensed simultaneously, with a whooshing sound, a barrage of fireballs slammed into the dense ranks of jackal-headed warriors.
Each fireball exploded, blasting dozens of jackal-headed warriors into the air.
But these fellows' bodies—no one knows what they're made of—after being blown up, they rolled on the ground a few times, then sprang up and continued charging toward us as if nothing had happened.
Wu Tie's eyes widened.
The power of the fireballs he gathered wasn't great, but it was still comparable to a full-strength strike from an ordinary low-level Chonglou Realm cultivator.
These fireballs struck those jackal-headed beings, yet they suffered no damage at all?
A mighty tide of jackal-headed beings surged forward.
On the plaza formed by condensed black light, tiny black grains of sand suddenly appeared out of nowhere, flowing like water; starting with just a few, they quickly multiplied to tens of thousands, and soon countless grains buried Wu Tie and the others up to their knees.
Wu Tie now stands over three meters tall; the black quicksand has submerged his knees, and for the other Blood Curved Blade Chonglou Realm cultivators, it has engulfed them waist-down.
These black grains are ice-cold, sinisterly chilling, each grain unusually heavy.
The Blood Curved Blade's Chonglou Realm elites submerged in the black quicksand instantly had their movements reduced to a crawl.
Some tried to fly with their weapons, but sticky, chilling quicksand kept falling from the void, weighing them down and slamming them back to the ground.
In the blink of an eye, the jackal-headed warriors surged forward, completely submerging the Blood Curved Blade's hundred or so members.
Wu Tie swung the White Tiger Split; its tremendous impact sent countless approaching jackal-headed warriors flying kilometers away, no matter how many charged, none could reach his body.
Yet even with the White Tiger Split's terrifying weight, Wu Tie's raw strength of over a billion catties, plus the fearsome boost from his Divine Strength Magic and Divine Armor Physique, the Split's blows on these beings failed to kill them.
They were like indestructible cockroaches—after being hurled kilometers, they rolled a few times on the ground, sprang up, and continued forming ranks to charge at Wu Tie.
Wu Tie shouted in anger, no longer using the White Tiger Split's shaft to swat them away, but sweeping with its massive spearhead.
With incessant "pfft" sounds, each jackal-headed warrior was cleaved at the waist by the White Tiger Split's peerless edge, then blasted kilometers away by the wind from the spear.
But when the bisected jackal-headed warriors hit the ground, black light flowed from their severed halves; the upper and lower halves' black light precisely sought each other, then the dark light converged inward, and their bodies instantly reassembled.
In other words, after lying prone a moment longer, they rose unperturbed and continued charging at Wu Tie.
Desa's triumphant laughter echoed from afar: "Praise the great Lord Osiris… you who command death, under your authority your warriors are immortal and undying."
Wu Tie's mouth corner twitched.
Lao Daofeng's mouth corner twitched.
Lao Daofeng, the six Life Pool Realm experts, and even Doliya's faces all turned grim.
And those one hundred and ten Blood Curved Blade cultivators of the Chonglou Realm had already been completely surrounded by those jackal-headed warriors, with countless swords, spears, halberds, and strange weapons raining down from all directions. Many were already covered in wounds, and some had even had their arms and legs chopped off.
Piercing wails continued to come, and some even loudly cursed the mothers, grandmothers, and all female ancestors of Doliya's lineage.
Doliya said, "There is some risk here, but they will definitely return with a huge harvest."
Yet these Chonglou Realm cultivators hadn't seen even the slightest benefit, and they were about to die here.
Wu Tie kept a stern face, continuously wielding the White Tiger Rend, continuously blasting the ever-increasing number of jackal-headed warriors away.
But these guys are immortal… No matter how Wu Tie slashes, he once even chopped more than a dozen jackal-headed warriors into over a hundred pieces, yet they quickly reassembled themselves and continued charging forward as if nothing had happened.
Wu Tie was speechless.
Old Knife Wind then angrily roared: "Doliya, is your prophecy just a fart?"
Doliya emitted a white light to protect himself, desperately resisting the onslaught of countless jackal-headed warriors from all directions, and he hoarsely shouted: "I said there would be danger, there would be danger… but believe me, we will definitely return with a huge reward…"
Doliya hoarsely said: "Is it just a matter of dying a few people? Chonglou Realm cultivators die and that's it… you Blood Curved Blade have enough… sigh…"
As soon as Doliya spoke, he became distracted, and his protective white light was torn open by a strangely shaped spear; the spear thrust from behind, grazing his waist and hips at an angle, leaving a conspicuous blood line across his protruding buttocks.
A large spray of blood burst out, and Doliya screamed in pain.
He flung open the great beast-skin book with both hands and loudly chanted the incantation.
Strands of white flame spewed from the beast-skin book, forming a fire barrier around him that kept all the jackal-headed warriors outside.
A Chonglou Realm cultivator let out a despairing wail.
They could not withstand the jackal-headed warriors' assault; after their mana was exhausted, their protective treasures were broken and immediately torn to shreds.
"Pretty boy… can't trust…" a dying Chonglou Realm cultivator hoarsely wailed on the brink of death.
"Pretty boy… I fuck your ancestors…" another Chonglou Realm cultivator screamed profanity as his head was chopped off.
"Boss… brothers can't follow you anymore… later… be careful… pretty boy…" a stout man whose chest was pierced by four strange spears spat out mouthfuls of blood, then his body suddenly swelled, and with a huge boom he simply self-destructed.
The self-destruction of a Chonglou Realm cultivator merely blasted over a hundred jackal-headed warriors a kilometer into the air; these jackal-headed warriors got up as if nothing had happened and continued charging at other Chonglou Realm cultivators.
One after another, Blood Curved Blade cultivators were slain, and the jackal-headed warriors encircling Wu Tie grew ever more numerous.
Wu Tie also became a bit embarrassed; despite wielding the White Tiger Rend with mighty vigor, jackal-headed warriors still rushed in from angles he couldn't guard, fiercely hacking at his body.
Wu Tie activated the Heavenly Armor Divine Body, making his defensive power extremely strong, his flesh and skin as hard as steel ingots.
The jackal-headed warriors' weapons were also quite sharp, their strength not weak, roughly equivalent to that of a body-refining cultivator just entering the Chonglou Realm, capable of delivering several million catties of force when striking.
Their weapons slit Wu Tie's skin, leaving thin blood marks all over his body.
One or two blood marks were nothing; even a hundred or two hundred were tolerable… a thousand, ten thousand, a hundred thousand…
Wu Tie's clothes were torn to rags all over, and dense blood marks covered his entire body.
Layers of blood marks overlapped densely on Wu Tie's body; the jackal-headed warriors' stubborn, continuous attacks finally cut through his muscles, and their weapons chopped directly into his bones.
With a series of "ding-ding" sounds, the jackal-headed warriors' weapons shattered piece by piece; then some strange components in their weapons turned into flowing light visible only to Wu Tie, rapidly streaming into his bones.
A familiar heat, long absent, surged throughout his bones.
Wu Tie wielded the White Tiger Rend with his right hand alone, while his left hand's five fingers moved, bringing forth gusts that swept over the incoming weapons, sweeping over the jackal-headed warriors' golden armor piece by piece.
Weapons shattered, armor shattered; streams of flowing light continually poured into Wu Tie's body, his dark bones igniting once again and releasing vast heat flows that surged into his flesh and organs.
Sweat drenched his whole body, the dense blood marks rapidly healed, Wu Tie panted heavily, his condition improving steadily, and his bodily strength grew stronger.
Wails continued unabated, and finally all the Chonglou Realm cultivators of the Blood Curved Blade were completely slain.
Here only Old Knife Wind and six Life Pool Realm masters remained, along with Wu Tie and Doliya.
Desha let out a sharp whistle, and all the jackal-headed warriors halted their hands at once.
Desha rolled backward, burst out of the area covered by blade light, and loudly roared: "Vile lowly race, welcome to the sleeping grounds of Lord Osiris, to undergo his trial… it's really a bargain for you bunch of vile wretches."
